I know we just got started in the indoor season but has the tour decided if it will be having a outdoor series? If so let me know, would love to have a Tour Race at our Concrete Track next year as long as it works in with our scheduling.

IMHO -- with the widespread success and acceptance of the indoor TOUR pcakage. I can only think that it would be great for the electric racers to have the benefit of the same rules Nationwide.

I also think that the persons invovled in helping you formulate the rules, like you guys did for carpet, would be the guys on the front lines of the paved oval racing scene.

Donnie of Carolina R/C Complex.

Sean of Rt 281 Speedway.

The guys at the Grove in Rock Hill, S.C.

The guys at the Tri-Clone.

There may be others and I am not intentionally leaving anyone out, these are the guys that come to mind.

We tried to propose the TOUR package last season here at the Grove and it wasn't very well received at that time. That being said, oval racing had a terrible turn out this past season with hardly any Friday night runs and very limited Saturday oval turnout. So something needs to be done.

Our problem is that the regular racers like the breakout format and the traveling racers like the open format. Hard to change those set in their ways.

I would love to see TOUR adopted here, especially the truck, 17.5, and 13.5 classes. We tried 13.5 for a short while but it got boring with only 3-4 of us at any given time on the track. If anyone has any suggestions on how to kick start oval again at the Grove, I'm all ears!

I can't speak for Glenn @ Rosewood, but I know he built a great banked asphalt oval last year and I am sure he wants to increase the number of outdoor racers and races next year.

I'm sure that Donnie at Carolina RC in Easley, SC would be down for some outdoor TOUR action! We just got the 13.5/COT class going there and the 10.5/1c will kick back up after the first of the year.

Would love to see Carolina RC as part of the TOUR outdoor season!

Allan and Steve will get it all woked out i am sure of that and If RT281 is included we would be honored. Also we will be following the tour "Outdoor" rules no matter what in order to support oval in whole.

We just had a brand new racer ask about 17.5 and someone said it would be too slow. But racing is relative to the speed of everyone. Last year when we had a dash for cash in 13.5 1 cell before it was it was the main stay, everyone and i mean everyone left the track happy! the racing was extremely close and the drafting really worked! so a 17.5 truck maybe be slow but it would be great to see the drafting and the strategy it would take to win that race. like i said we will support the TOUR Rules Lets race and mostly have fun.

Here's a video of what we have to offer in Indy.

It shows several classes being ran...pan car, sprint cars, and even quarter scales.

Last season we had a basic short course for the Slashes in the infield. This season we will have a dirt oval as well as a short course for 10th scale off road.

R/Car's Big Asphalt Oval is right at 600' long with 40' wide lanes.

We have confirmed races at Carolina Speedway in Easley SC, Rt 281 Speedway in PA, Indy R/C. Also talking to Lail Speedway in Knoxville TN, Rosewood In NC, Tri Clone in WI.

Tour Classes for points will be :
17.5 COT Roar approved Battery, Motor, open ESC, Spec Cap tires
13.5 Open Body Roar approved motor and Battery, open ESC, Spec Cap
10.5 Open Body,Roar approved motor and Battery, Open ESC, Open Cap Tires.

We are going with Spec tires in the 17.5 and 13.5 classes to make it less expensive for racers, There has been extensive testing in both these classes to find what works best. We wanted to take 13.5 outside with COT but just does not work. These may be tweaked but this is the bacis to start with. Will have dates and more info up soon.

Allan , Thanks for the Opportunity for us to Test! I wanted it to be easy, Taking 13.5 outside with the COT was do-able but!!!! wasnt at all going to be enjoyable or cost effective due to the crashes it would had caused. I back these rules! and If i can help at all in the future let me know.

Sounds pretty good Allan but, we had a hard time getting people to run specs before. Because of not being able to put stagger in the car. Allan, how much cheaper are they? If I recall, I thought they was about $2 or so difference.
P.S. This is one fast little track we have here! Stagger really helps!:woohoo:

Hey Carl; The cost factor is not about the per tire cost, it is about going thru so many combantions trying to find the right set up.

Larry it is well worth the trip it is like a huge carpet track. only one bump and if you are hitting it you out to lunch anyway.

From what i am see there is about a .15 -.3 sec difference.

Basically i beleive the 17.5 will run like our 13.5 1s cars did last year and the 13.5 cars will be at 21.5 speeds.

10.5 will be in the low 6 sec range for lap times. maybe see a 5.9 out of the fast guys if they dare come! hint hint!

O, ok Allan but, 99% of people at our track run the pinks for the stagger. I don't really see the issue with that like we do for the carpet tires.
Misinterpreted the cost issue.
I can say the majority down here runs:
L pink prolite on the LF
L pink Net on the RF
L pink prolite on the LR
R pink Net on the RR

We've tried specs (they say they are the same as pinks but, they were harder and wore faster) but, they were not as good.

At our track, I believe we'll have a hard time getting guys to run them.

Alan Behler
04-09-2010, 08:05 PM
i really wish we would stop treaeting 13.5 as a "slower" class
it should be with open tires just so we can run the stagger we would like to.
even if you tell everyone you need to run 4 pinks but it didnt have to be specs.
for the guys who ran and bought tires at the end of the season now will have to go out and buy another set.

why dont we all work within the rules....if someone specified it as an open tire class everyone would be complaining about that.....Go work on your race car....not the political lobbying to get the rules you want...

Larry B

We do need the rules so tracks can get on the same playing field. As a racer without a home track, I may run on three different tracks this summer. The rules will help me. I will know what tires and body I need. The down side is the local racer only racing one track. They may have to make a change from what they are used too. I do not mind running the spec tires. As a cap racer for years, I know I can get the tire truer out and grind in what stager I can get in the specs. Racers grind away a lot of foam on the carpet tires.

We had to have something to get oval together. Some will have to make some sacrafices and others may not.

IMHO It would be nice to only have to change a motor to move up or down a class, but rules are rules.

Dude, I've seen guys put spec caps on a tire truer and cut them down with a cheese grinder type of cutter to make them faster and softer to get them to hook up (so I don't know so much about the cost thing). And if you get the tires that works to start with, they're fast from the get go. If you get the right set of caps they will last a long time!

nick, it would be a very rare day that i would put my car on the track built exactly the way i want.
larry made the point i was looking at. the tire rule was put in to make everyone equal. if you are cutting most of the life out of the tire on 3 out of 4 tires just to get the stagger you want whats the point?

its not that i dont want to buy spec caps. i still will. i want to be able to run a 15-20 car race at rt281 with a 17.5 and a cot.

this is also why i said if you want to tell everyone that they have to run pinks then pinks it is but let us run the stagger we want.
as far as the rules i want i am just stating an opinion shared by many and that is what this is all about.
you will not find a bigger TOUR fan than myself. allan knows that
man i could go for some apple pie!!!!!
