Ive watched Smallville from the begining. Its been hard. So many terrible shows going in no direction. So much of it doesnt make sence and is just plain silly and stupid. But I keep watching, waiting to see how they transform Clark into the superhero we know as Superman. Its gotta happen pretty soon. These characters are getting old!

I agree, much of it doesn't make sense, but pointless stories aside, it's good to see other DC characters brought to life once in awhile. Hawkman has always been a favorite of mine, and even though he doesn't really fit in the Superboy timeline, I think it will be pretty cool to see him as a "live" character on tv in addition to any animated versions that have been on.

I saw the preview for the JSA show (two months away!!!!) and I also noticed a quick flash of the Alan Scott Green Lantern ring. I think I recorded it tonight, so I will look and see what else is there.

I did see a group picture of the JSA hanging on a wall, although it was a more modern JSA, I think. The only one I had a chance to focus on before the scene change was the Star Spangled Kid, who in the comics eventually received a star-powered belt from the old Starman when DC decided he needed to be powered up some.

I'll see what's in the preview if I got it on disk, and maybe post some pics if I did. If I don't post again here then I didn't manage to get it recorded tonight.

Here's the best I could capture off the preview. The only picture of Hawkman seems to be in the group picture on the wall in their meeting room.

I might have to buy this season of Smallville just to have a good copy of the JSA episode (hopefully it's at least a two-parter). But I will do my best to get a decent recording of the JSA show when it airs, in the interest of saving myself the price of the first and probably only Smallville season I would bother to buy.

I have higher than usual expectations for the JSA guest starring episode(s), based on the pictures I saw on the preview. I hope the show doesn't let me down. So far the only guest superheroes who have not let me down totally is Green Arrow, Aquaman and Cyborg, and they bear only a slight resemblance to anything I have read in the comics. The Martian Manhunter and the runty Flash guest starring roles have been a total disappointment to me.

Great screen caps Bruce! You are right about Green Lantern's ring, and thats also a nice shot of Dr.Fate too. At least they are using what appear to be the correct costumes. Originally, this was supposed to air as two episodes, but they decided to make it a full 2 hour movie titled "Absolute Justice".
To me, this looks like it is going to be one of the best episodes ever, well, I hope so anyway. It is also supposed to have the current members of the 'Smalleville" Justice League as well.
Thanks for posting the excellent screen caps. :)
Here is the brief, but excellent preview. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6hnKyEZFlg&feature=player_embedded

The guy in the gas mask should be the original Sandman too. Who knows which other JSA members we might see 'in person'?

In the mural or whatever it is, on the left I can make out the Star Spangled kid, the middle has the Golden Age Flash, Golden Age Hawkman and Hawkgirl, and on the right has Mr Terrific. I can't quite make out who the others might be. When playing the promo on my tv I seem to sometimes catch the scenes a little clearer.

My guess as to the villain is Degaton, since time travel was his speciality and he fought the JSA a few times. Once he even wiped out the JSA through time manipulation, if my memory is still somewhat reliable. Maybe time travel explains all the strange, non-standard, and mediocre bits of the Smallville episodes.

Smallville is a guilty pleasure. I know it's not that good, but I enjoy it anyway.

I hope they morph it into 'Metropolis' and run another ten years!

Hmm. I think I picked out Hourman, Dr Mid-Nite, and the Specter as well. Hard to tell with the poor quality of the screen cap.

Should be interesting

Edit: Wildcat is sitting next to The Star Spangled Kid!.

Hi SFCOM1 :),

Ya know, I thought that looked like the Specter sitting next to the Flash, but I wasn't sure cause me eyes ain't what they used to be. Looking at it again, you are right, and I can just barely make out the Wildcat too.

Yup, definitely looks to be pretty interesting.

Usually I'm hellbent against any changes to comix history...but I give wide berths to the DC universe since they actually planted the foundation that anything can happen with their Multiverse

It's true that WB/DC have taken many liberties with the Superboy/Superman mythology on Smallville, especially with introducing key characters way before their time i.e. Lois Lane, Green Arrow, Martian Manhunter, Justice League etc. Even so, I feel that overall it has been a very entertaining series so far because of this, and evidently many other people feel the same as the ratings have been consistant enough to have it on for nine seasons so far with the prospect of a tenth season looking pretty good right now.
It's a great show! :)

As for Erica Durance, well, all I can say is HUBBA HUBBA, WOOOHOOO!!!!:p

I believe I read somewhere that the Justice Society is somehow supposed to help Clark with his flying ability.
Then again, that was part of the reason for having Supergirl on the series, but that didn't pan out either, and now she's in the Phantom Zone (off the show).
Gotta happen sooner or later though.

I wonder if the original Red Tornado will make an appearance also.....

Question: Will we be meeting any other Justice Society members in Smallville: Absolute Justice other than Hawkman, Dr. Fate and Stargirl? —Mike
Ausiello: Yes. According to e.p. Brian Petersen, “we will see glimpses of” several others.

This is according to "The Ausiello Files" from Entertainment Weekly, but no mention of exactly who will be seen yet. Red Tornado would be cool to see too. :)

Bruce Bishop
11-26-2009, 09:06 PM
You mean Ma Hunkel, the original Golden Age Red Tornado and eventual honorary member of the JSA? Or are you talking about the robotic Red Tornado who eventually joined the JLA?

And in the preview, they showed a picture of the original Sandman, and a right hand wearing the power ring of the original Green Lantern. Although since Alan Scott was left handed and wore his ring on the left hand, I'm not sure if it was a mistake in costuming or someone else wearing his power ring.

Can anybody tell if the Golden Age Atom is in the portrait? That would be Al Pratt, not Ray Palmer...

Bruce Bishop
11-28-2009, 07:05 PM
From what little I could see in the screencap I got from my recording, I see a couple of figures that might be Atom but could be somebody else as well. And just because they appear in that group portrait doesn't mean the character will be seen in action in the show, whether in 'current' time or as flashbacks.

If they just don't screw up the JSA as much as they have the silver age characters and the 'JLA' I will be content with the program, I think.

I couldn't really make out too many of the characters in the portrait. Like Bruce Bishop said, what looks like one could be another, but here are a couple of new photos from the show though.

I think Stargirl is the newest member we will be seeing in this show.
The plot revolves around the old original members of the Justice Society who have come out of retirement to help Clark and Green Arrow get organized and form the Justice League.

"Smallville" will not return on January 22nd as originally planned, due to the CW's participation in the "Hope For Haiti" telethon taking place on that date.

The CW confirmed to the Superman Homepage that "Disciple", the episode that was scheduled to air on that day, will now air a week later on Friday, January 29th. The 2-hour "Absolute Justice" will still air on February 5th as planned. However "Warrior" (which was originally scheduled to air on January 29th) will be pushed back to a different date (yet to be determined).

This is gonna be good, and hopefully it will help give the CW enough courage to introduce more "costumed" hero's in future episodes. I would kinda like to see the Martian Manhunter in his true form too.
Season 10 has not been officially green lighted yet, but it's looking like it has a pretty good chance considering how good ratings have been for the show since the move to Friday nights.

Only 17 more days to go!

Right you are James, and although the CW won't be more specific as to exactly which JSA characters will be seen in this movie, they have clearly indicated that many of the members "will" be seen in flashback sequences.
Sandman and Green Lantern are fairly obvious, but I believe the story may revolve around something that happens with the Star Spangled Kid (ala "The Watchmen").
At any rate, I think this is going to be a great show. :)

Kitzillastein58

So wait....is the Absolute Justice thing a stand alone or part of the Smallville series storyline?

It's supposed to be part of the Smallville story line. It was originally meant to be shown as two seperate episodes, then they decided to combine them to make one 2 hr movie. Also, part of the reason for the JSA coming out of retirement is to bring the members of the Justice League together and teach them how to work as a real team. At this point in the story line, they have not officially formed themselves as the "Justice League" yet. The JSA is going to help push them in the right direction, as well as try to teach Clark more about teamwork too.
The CW has also indicated that at least Hawkman and Dr.Fate will be returning for future episodes as well, but I guess that will depend on if the show gets picked up for season 10 or not.

Mike

JerseyPhoenix

That's what I thought...which brings me to my next question...

Is this skipping of an episode going to f'up the storyline?

(And yes I know most of the episodes are episode-centric but they all usually have some sort of linear progression of the bigger season theme... )

Kitzillastein58
01-27-2010, 05:10 PM
Evidently, The CW doesn't think it will really mess things up too much with the storyline.
As it stands right now, on Jan.29th the episode "Disciple" will air, followed on Feb.5th by "Absolute Justice", then on Feb.12th they will air "Warrior".
I guess they felt that was a better choice than airing Disciple and Warrior back to back on the same night. Personally, I disagree with this as there may be continuity issues between Warrior and Absolute Justice. Hopefully not, but we'll see.

i cant believe im saying this, but.... i'm there.

(i used to read dr, fate comics.... i never, EVER thought id live to see him as a live action character. thank you DC/WB!)

theyre using the supes insignia more and more... could they have been grooming this kid to become the new superman for 9 years? its not impossible, but very farsighted for hollywood.
