British actor Edward Woodward has passed. Best known for "The Equalizer" but his finest performance was as the tortured Sergeant Howie in "The Wicker Man".

He was a talented and versatile actor who, by his own estimate, appeared in at least two THOUSAND television productions. Even if that's a bit of hyperbole (maybe he added a zero?), he was certainly prolific.
American TV and movie fans are most familiar with him, of course, as The Equalizer and as the clueless police sergeant in The Wicker Man. It's also worth noting that he starred in High Spirits, a 1964 Broadway musical adaptation of Noël Coward's play Blithe Spirit, co-starring the great Beatrice Lillie and directed by Sir Noël himself.
His widow, actress Michele Dotrice, is the sister of Karen Dotrice, who played little Jane Banks in Disney's 1964 film Mary Poppins.

The last time I saw him was in an episode of Crusade TV series, as a Technomage. As always, a fine performance, from one of the best.

Breaker Morant was his best role, IMHO.
Bummer. I liked him as an actor.

Michelle also had a couple of juicy genre rolls in British films in the 70s.

He was a great actor and it showed in everything he did but nothing I've seen him in compared to his performance in The Wicker Man.
