I recently picked up this Hotwheels car for $.97, and added painted details like intake vents, back grill and tail lights, etc. I kept the front and back parts of the original chassis since they have details that are visible from the outside. The body is attached to an SG+ chassis with double-sided tape.
Here (hopefully) are some pictures.

Yes - That car is on my bench right now also, due to get a Tyco conversion. I also snagged the 'Ferrari' series edition of the same car in dark red with racing tampos -- think that one ran $2.99 with the fancy package and blingy wheels.
And welcome to Hobby Talk GTPguy!

Thanks for the welcome.
Microscalextric made some nice GT versions of the Ferrari F430. That body has very similar proportions to this Hotwheels one, but since that chassis has a wider stance than the Tomy's, their body appears to be too narrow.

This one will look nice when it's converted from a push car --

Nice paint scheme on that one. There's some very good detailing on many of the diecasts- some better than others.
One area they have definitely improved on is the front light paint schemes, with their black-grey-white effect. It's much more convincing than the solid silver or grey used on many HO bodies. I'd like to see that adopted by more slot car makers.
