I have an LCD screen TV and I finally got Syfy HD a couple weeks ago so I got to see Atlantis and other such programs for the first time in HD. Pretty spiffy!
During the high-speed action sequences (like travel through the wormhole), I noticed that the images become kind of pixely. I don't know if it's because of the cable transmission or the rate at which my TV is able to process the faster images.
There are presets in the TV which I'm guessing will help me make the refresh faster. Right now it's on "Entertainment". There's also "Dynamic", "Standard" and "Movie". There are also some sub-settings which are, "Game", "Sports", "Cinema" and "Off".
Now, if I could just find the remote for the TV...

The pixelation is due to the video compression your cable provider is using in order to preserve bandwidth.

excellent! So if I were to play the blu-ray version of whatever the episode was, I wouldn't get that?
Come to think of it, I have played some pretty fast-paced action sequences on my blu-ray and it's been clear.
Anything I can do to bolster my signal or is it at the cable company's end?

The UniversalHD channel shows episodes of Stargate SG:1 and Atlantis from time to time and there isn't as much "artifacting" on that channel as there is on SyFy.
You will experience this phenomenon when watching DVDs through a Blu-Ray player as well. It's just a flaw with the older format that shows up on bigger screens with higher resolution.

To clarify - SyFy may be feeding their signal with a certain level of compression to begin with. Your cable company is then compressing even further. You are correct that you should not see any pixelation at all while playing back Blu-ray discs. I believe that the pixelation Martin refers to may have to do with Standard Definition DVDs played back on an HD monitor. As to remedies - I would call your cable company but I doubt there is much you can do to resolve the problem.

You won't see any pixelation when watching a blu-ray disc, or at least I never have. The SYFY HD channel on our dish network doesn't have near as good a picture generally as the big networks or HBO HD channels.
