Hey, I know that the birds isn't offering the 17.5 1s truck class this year but I wanted to see who would be interested in racing the class if it was offered. We just might be able to get it in there if there are a lot of interested racers.

I ran it at the oval masters and had a blast. This is my first year going to the snowbirds and I don't want to run anything faster than the COT 13.5 class and I don't have 2s stuff anymore. So hoping maybe there's some other guys out there like me who want to race the 17.5 class.

SHOW SUPPORT FOR THE 17.5 CLASS.

I know a lot of people would love to see this class at the birds. Maybe take the 21.5 trucks and make them 17.5 trucks instead.

Good job Bill, I hope this happens for you guys!

Will run it if its a class. Have a 17.5, 13.5 and 10.5, but would drop the 10.5 if there is a 17.5 class.

I really enjoyed it, the first time I ever run trucks. The class to run if you don't want to deal with the tire wear, loved it. Just could not believe the grip the carpet had!

question is how do you determine who can and can't run it? If you have a guy running 13.5 and 10.5, or any other class for that matter, shouldn't that preclude him from the class?

I think you can run 13.5, and SK, but nothing 10.5 or above.

Interesting... I normally run 13.5 and have already been told I shouldn't run the class by a TOUR official....

Guess I better start building a truck!

LOL...

I actually built one for my brother and raced it a few times myself. I love the class. The trucks are so easy to drive... I would almost rather stick with that class. I pushed to get it going up here and have 3 with 5 or 6 more lurking in the shadows getting ready to come out. Problem is a couple of the guys who have them won't run them if I race the class... for some reason they call me a "pro"... lol Obviously they haven't seen me drive too much!

Dude, all depends on the size of the track. I was running in the 4.40's at the oval masters. But I going to be experimenting with different gearing at my home track which is a little bigger than Greeneville. Greenville's run line is 170'. Maybe that will help.

Get all of the guys that want to run the 17.5 at the birds to post support to this thread and maybe we can get the class in the birds.

turn the timing all the way up on the motor and try a 4.90 rollout and fast laps should be around 4.5-4.6

Hopefully it will, I'm going and if you don't race at least two classes it's a waste of time. I'm good with 13.5 but I don't want to venture into the 10.5 class just yet, maybe next year. The trucks provide an opportunity to get out of the speedo / battery / money wars that go on in the other classes and I think we will only be a few tenths slower than the 13.5 class. Cool part about it is since you don't have a lot of rip to rely on you really have to wheel the car and have a great setup, otherwise you'll be scratching your head trying to figure out what to do.

Bill, have you contacted Mike about his interest on adding a 9th class for oval at the birds? espeically since he has posted the classes already and has cut some that where run last year to get it down to 8?

The Tour at this time does not have a Offical website. The rules can be found here on Hobby talk under the TOUR thread.

I have not personally contacted Mike, but I know that he is open to drivers attending the event so if we can show enough interest then the class may be added. I'm just trying to raise support for it to show that it is a viable class of racing.

All of you 13.5 guys out there that want to run two classes but don't want to run 10.5 or 21.5 / 2s this is your shot at a second class. It is as competitive as any of the other classes and it allows people who are new to the hobby a place to get started. Just need to keep the sponsored guys out of it.

Real question might be how many entries will there be for 21.5 trucks or 21.5 cars? Looks like in the BRL that those classes have really dropped in car counts. Might be better to drop one of those and run the 17.5 instead.

Question on the sponsored driver thing, are you trying to keep out fast drivers or ? If thats the point I would think there are better ways to keep them out. like if you make the A in any other class you are not eligable to run in the truck class. Having raced in many other forms of motorsports, sponsorship was never a criteria for advancement to run in faster classes or levels. Usually it was based on results, do well, move up. Ie the top 10 from 17.5 this year cant run the class any more.

Yes, I have a sponsor, I just got off my butt and put out a resume. It gets me a discount on motors and batteris. Am I a fast guy, not really, have not raced for almost 20 years. I would much prefer to run 17.5 and 13.5 instead of 13.5 and 10.5 as I am going to run two classes if I am spending $2000+ to attend the birds. Locally I run 13.5 and occasionally 10.5 to get a 2nd class. Dont expect to see the A or even the B feature, so should I be prohibited from racing because of that?

I would think full sponsored team rides shouldn't race the class. No stacked deck. There are some guys that sponsorship means a discount on stuff, I would think that would be OK. Just trying to keep the class in the reach of hard working racers who buy their stuff at the LHS and build the cars themselves.

You're right about that. I'm actually working on some specific restrictions at our local track based on what we saw with those new speedo's this weekend to keep the costs to a minimum. All wee need is a guy to come in with lots of money and tick off all of the hardworking truck guys and make leave.

You guys heading to the birds? Help me drum up some support so the 17.5 class will be alive in Florida.
