View Full Version : M2 Diecast Car Passenger Door
jjw724 11-03-2009, 12:23 PM I collect all differant makes of cars,All my diecast is opened & displayed in large acrylic cases,I love the M2 line of cars & have about 6 of them now but i have noticed when i remove from packaging the passenger door that is opened when i close it for display it dosen't seem to line up properly,Luckily all my cars are displayed with the driver side in view, this is my only complaint otherwise great product.
MustangChris 11-03-2009, 03:17 PM I've noticed that also with the M2 cars. Like you, I display all of mine open with the doors open so it doesn't really matter for me. Kinda stinks for those that wish for the doors to be closed.
88th division 11-03-2009, 04:37 PM I guess I am lucky. I keep my cars in the blisters, I think the M2's display nicely this way. I have noticed when I look at them in stores that you have to look them over carefully. I have seen hoods out of alignment, headlights missing, and passenger doors sagging real bad. Castline has gotten better in recent releases and I hope they continue to improve.
carhauler 11-03-2009, 09:21 PM Out of about 70 M2's, I have about six with misaligned pass doors. However all three of my Dodge Chargers (66) are affected. Other minor quality problems abound including a Mustang with an odd right rear wheel.
Guntownal 11-03-2009, 11:21 PM If I had my druthers, I'd druther they didn't have opening doors.
Atencio 11-04-2009, 01:21 AM I would actually prefer to have nothing that opened. I find it detracts from the smooth lines of the cars. It is no accident that my favorite diecast cars are Kyosho and Biante. Not a knock on M2 as they do a decent job with opening parts
Liv N Low 11-04-2009, 12:35 PM This has been discussed many times on other chatboards in how M2's are
poorly casted with missing parts - out of line door/hood jams,, etc.... with
a large $5 sticker price ... You would think Castline would do a better job
when casting them so this wouldn't be discussed. I have noticed many Cars
doors sagging or misaligned by looking at the Cars in the BP's, this just keeps
my money in my pocket until they get it right ...
harristotle 11-04-2009, 01:11 PM I really enjoy the opening doors. There aren't a lot of companies that have this feature so I enjoy having a little diversity in my collection.
Variation_Jason 11-05-2009, 03:19 AM The M2 Drivers series are in the $3 range, don't have opening door or hoods and are very well cast. The hood looks like it can open and is a separate piece, but it is riveted shut. True there are only three castings in the series right now, but they just added two more to the next release. '67 Nova and 70 Torino cobra
You do have to admit they have great detail.

The Driver's series would be more appealing to me if they had authentic paint jobs...
Liv N Low 11-05-2009, 04:26 PM I so far Grabbed the Nova's - 70 Mach 1's and the Gold Torino that needs
some new shoes as those wheels dont do that Car any Justice.
Red Nova will get new Shoes too as the Gold will be tossed
98whitelightnin 01-15-2010, 11:49 PM I set one of my M2's free and the hood and drivers door werent the way I liked. I took the car apart and tweaked the hood just enough and tightened the door screw and its perfect now. If you display them open this is worth a try.
edseldave 01-16-2010, 12:42 PM I also hope there are more drivers series with stock finishes and CHROME bumpers & wheels !!!
HurricaneRay 01-21-2010, 04:22 AM I may be a new member, but I'm not new to hobbies. I too have noticed that some M2's have door alignment issues. I found that most of the doors that don't line up right, have been painted correctly.
The thing I find is that the door is usually the problem. It's not where it's supposed to be. I have successfully been able to bend the hinges up or down as needed. Only once has the paint not lined up when I re-aligned the door.
M2 uses a slightly softer metal, and you can, bend it... just a little. I really think the issue starts with the assembly process. Since the hinges are stamped on, I'm thinking the machine bends the hinge just a tiny bit when it stamps it onto the door. Not everytime. Just once in a while.
Even with these minor problems, M2 and Greenlight are the best. They help make my hobby worth my time. I hope this helps you, and that you can say the same.
