The governing body of ROAR concluded thier meeting today and set the 2010 National Event schedule.

October 17, 2009
Dear ROAR Membership: The ROAR Executive Committee’s fall meeting has concluded and the minutes from the meeting will be published in the next few days. Although, one item we found of major importance was the announcement of our 2010 ROAR Nationals host venues. Some of this information has leaked out prior to today as the excitement for the events is evident. The ROAR Executive Committee would like to make these announcements official and congratulate the venue selections. We received several excellent bids for each event and we hope to save those venues not selected for consideration in 2011.

Please, take a moment to congratulate these hosts for their selections. These events will be managed by the ROAR RMT staff. The 2010 Nationals Guidelines will have a few alterations to several race programs, so please be sure to download a copy and review should you intend to participate in a ROAR National event in 2010.

...No Oval Nat's - No Oval Drama

Oval guys have the "TOUR" now for "LARGE" races - so ROAR can focus on other racing and OVAL racing can organize (or re-organize) itself.

From a financial aspect - probably one of THE BEST things ROAR has done for years!!

So are they dropping oval rules too?

Last year there was zero interest in oval nats. They had 1 or two pre-entries and they dropped the event. Why would this year be any different. After it was announce ROAR pulled the plug, Allan re-named the race and the entries came in. Now, to me that sounds like nobody wanted anything to do with ROAR.

The TOUR deal picked up the slack and set up a rules package for oval racing. Steve was working with ROAR during the entire process so that pretty much tells me TOUR is it as far as oval is concerned now. Roar basically signed off on it and is offering some guidance but that is it. I wouldn't expect to see ROAR having much involvement with oval racing past that.

The point is are they dropping Oval all together?
If ROAR is, then will the Insureance still be good for local, and regional events if it is just a oval track?
Is it just carpet and paved?
What about Dirt Oval?

I don't think ROAR has been involved in dirt oval for awhile if at all. I think the big dog there is WDRA.

Your best bet is to e-mail Dawn and ask her. I don't think they are dropping oval, I just don't think they are sanctioning any events for it.

IMO -- the 2007 ROAR Paved Oval Nats was the beginning of something ROAR had not seen in an Oval event in several years. The CCRC, Donnie and crew set the Oval world on edge with a perfectly run event and lots of entries. All they had to do to continue the success was not mess with the formula.

Fast foward one year to 2008 and it was a disaster. High gas prices, high entry fees and some rules that several racers, including me, did not agree with. It really left a sour taste in the mouths of racers. Couple this with the indecisions of the Oval Committee and that really was the last straw. Remember what I said about not messing with the formula? It didn't happen.

The Carpet Nats were proof. The Oval racers just did not want anything to do with ROAR. Like it was stated, Alan changed the name and put on a stellar event.

You want a "National" type title, either go to the Oval Masters or Snowbirds (for carpet) and win your class. For the Paved Oval racers, head to Carolina R/C Complex and run in the Mason-Dixon race.

Scarecrow,

It's my understanding that the Paved Oval Rules will NOT be dropped from the 2010 Rule Book, but it will NOT adopt the "TOUR's" rules either.

2011 - will be a wait and see, but I would not be suprised to see a 100% removal from Paved Oval.

swtour:

After being the race director and announcer for many of the ROAR and NORRCA Paved and Carpet Oval Nats from the late 90's thru the last carpet oval race. I would hope to believe that ROAR would find away to bring this back to a strong events again.
If they drop all oval racing then they will loose alot of members.
Ofcoarse Oval does not have a world events to have a qualify for as does off-road and on-road. ROAR is still the governing body, But then again if you look at the last World Off-road electric event there was less then 30 drivers there.
Now that was sad.

....we've never had a great ROAR following out here (for OVAL), so I've only dealt with them a few times for NATIONALS, and that was a long time ago, so you would know better than I what kind of Oval membership they have.

ROAR's Comp Director RUBEN use to put on about the ONLY ROAR Sanctioned West Coast events - and HE did a great job.

We were kind of spoiled through the 90s because NORRCA actually did their OWN Race Series (Unlike ROAR), so WEST COAST Racers could get a LOT of mileage from a membership.

7-8 Series Races (Per Year)
1 - Division Championship
1 - State Championship
and most years a NATIONAL someplace on the West Coast.

Not to mention most of the West Coast tracks were NORRCA Sanctioned, so all the clubs/tracks required their membership.

(My Series originated as the NORRCA Southern-California Paved Oval Series, and we went on our own in 2002 when NORRCA changed OWNERS for the 3rd or 4th time, and was not going to continue holding traveling series races.)

I've been a part of this traveling group for 21 years...
