I am new to this sport and am about to ask a possible stupid question, so here goes...

What is "rollout" when it comes to RC racing? How do I apply it to my racing?

I am running dirt ovals and about to run carpet. I have one weekend of RC racing in and just heard rollout used today!

Thank you for not laughing at a rookie!!!

tire size x 3.14 x pinion / spur = rollout

when racers talk rollout they are talkin bout revolutions of the motor compaired to revolutions of the tires. the calculation above will get you the roll out for a pancar, dirt cars need the transmision ratio added in there sumwhere..?

i'm one of the simplest guys around, maybe some guys on here could go into more details but i hope this helps

this is how i've always understood rollout

tire diameter x 3.14
spur gear / pinion gear

in the end it should give you how many inches traveled per motor revolution
mainly rollout is used for foam tires because the diameter changes as they wear

With a transmission car like an EDM, you have to divide the whole formula by the transmission ratio. For example 2.50 tires x 3.14 (pie) divided by 88 spur x 50 pinion divided by 2.40 transmission = 1.86 rollout. or just get an ipod and the rollout app. lol

just put gearing in it til your motor runs hot or your beating everyone eles
