Our office printer (which is right next to my cubicle) is making a screaching noise that sounds just like the giant ants in "THEM!" - for every. single. sheet. it prints.

AAAAGH!!!!

Perhaps it's full of giant ants. Better destroy it.

Perhaps it's full of giant ants. Better destroy it.You could try playing their mating call to lure them out. It works for grasshoppers.

hbWhich one -- Them! or The Beginning of the End?

Them! was the original postwar "big bug" flick, IIRC. The giant ants look cheesy and fake by today's standards, but the performances by James Whitmore, Edmund Gwenn and Joan Weldon still hold up pretty well. Of course, the ants had the best lines.

There's a Tui http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tui_(bird)outside work that sings the first five notes of the Close Encounter's theme.

I knew they were great mimics, but for one of them to pick up that tune there must be a huge CEotTK fan playing the movie night after night...

Oh, I still think the ants in THEM look great! It's amazing that they built so many full-size ones and didn't go the stop-motion miniature route.

The only thing I don't like about them ("THEM!!!") is that they gave the ants lips for some reason. :freak:

Well wouldn't it give you a case of the screaming willies if some giant ant was eyeing you up as it's next meal while smacking it's lips together?
