View Full Version : 200 cars in stock (T-MAIN)!!! FLASHBACK: RCThunder 10-14-2009, 01:03 PM http://snowbirdnationals.com/1990ReedyRace.htm COMMENT???? GearboxGraphics 10-14-2009, 02:34 PM Don't think we will ever see those numbers again, but it sure would be great if we did! I remember going there in like '93 I think it was or '94 maybe, and I think we raced back to around the J main! I think the TOUR rules might push the oval community back up to numbers close to that though. Problem is, back then you had two classes.....stock and mod. Now, you have 3 or 4 minimum at most big races. I don't think you will ever see 200 in ONE CLASS ever again, but 200 overall for a big event (other than the birds) I think is quite possible in the near future. SeanC42 10-14-2009, 02:40 PM http://snowbirdnationals.com/1990ReedyRace.htm COMMENT???? Looking at the old ads is just as good as the list of racers. That was for sure the "Golden Age" of oval. RCThunder 10-14-2009, 03:21 PM ADs.. haha yes Sean. Check out the batteries - Stage III Batteries - 14.25 a cell! HOLY cow that is $57 for 4-cells and $85.50 for 6-cells (there was no 4-cell we had to race 6-cell). Add on inflation and the fact you might only get a few runs on them... wow! bluelineracer 10-14-2009, 03:50 PM 3rd place J main stock results:thumbsup: dk AJS 10-14-2009, 05:21 PM That is really cool, too bad it can't happen like that again. The 1993 Roar Nationals at King NC. Not sure, but I think it went into double letter mains. I do not remember what main I was in. A friend won the U main. A lot has changed at big races since then. We always partied after the qualifying day. Go carts, man I can not tell you how many times we were thrown off the track. Many attended the King/Sandhills ballets, beer parties and we found time to get at least one good meal. Today it seems we need to be at the track until the owners run us off. We have to grab a meal at the late night drive threw. Maybe that is also one reason many left the hobby. Racing got serious!!! Now it looks like only the die hard attend these events. With the exception of maybe the Birds, were some go as families. GearboxGraphics 10-20-2009, 03:03 PM I remember my first nationals. The 1993 Roar Nationals at King NC. Get to the track as early as possible, squeeze in every single run you can, stay until they kick you out and go back and work on the car for the next day at the hotel. It is still fun, for me at least. But, I do miss the days of the whole atmosphere being a bit lighter and more laid back. RCThunder 10-20-2009, 04:29 PM I was pretty serious back then haha we used to stay up 2-3 night a week cycling batteries with a LavCo one cell at a time and dyno'ing dozens of motors on the prop dyno... and driving over to the Whip a day early just to practice for a weekly show and driving three straight weekends all night to King from Florida to get ready for the Worlds. We all went out to eat though and did go-carts, yes that was fun and some great memories. Now we rush home to get on the Internet LOL!!! Team T2C 10-20-2009, 06:26 PM the ad for the hobbyshop on the second page i jut had to punch the address in to see if the asphalt oval was still there. nothing but a huge empty lot! Greg Cummings 11-07-2009, 09:06 PM I also rember and miss the old oval days. I was in the P main at the the 1990 ROAR Nats at the King. Its just not the same these days but I go and race with the same 10 to 15 guys every chance I get at the Grove in Rockhill SC. Not many new faces in the raceing scene every kid just wants to go 100mph with the latest RTR then they just get bored. So until I win the lottery and buy the old King Speedway ( its still fixable ) I will take what I can get vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
