Oval racing is making a come back in Denver Colorado.

The new location for CORRC has a carpet track of 44 x 96 which the on road club has made availble the last friday of each month for oval racing. This will give some of us who travel for the BRL races, Snowbirds and other events a place to run on a larger track. Weekley races at the E-Plex in Fort Collins should benifit from this as well.

See attached flyer for information.

If your in the area, the track will be open around 10:00am and racing starts at 6:30pm. 3 heats and single main format.

Post here or pm for more information.

Meeting this evening on the track set up, race time and class info.

If the 7.5 / 1 cell is too fast for the 17.5/2cell or 19 turn 4 cell, it will be moved to its own class.

Lanes are going to be 12' on the straights and 16' on the ends. Track is 42" x 96'

With running once a month we will run three heats and then the mains. 1st run at 6:30, 2nd at 7:30, 3rd at 8:30 and mains at 9:30.

Track will be open at 10:00 and track up by 11:00. Open for practice until race time. With paid entry, practice is free!!!

This should be a great time!!:)

YES!!!!!!

It would not be one of the series classes, as we are trying to keep the counts up for those.

Layout that we came up with last night. Also the ends can be adjusted for 2 turns with a small straight if wanted.

What do you guys have in the way of Motels close to your track?

Grenade10
10-16-2009, 04:16 PM
Depending on what you want to spend there are several options. For our two day on road race last year, I stayed less than a mile away for $56/night. With in the same distance there are several business hotels that were $120/night.

Major cross streets would be 6th & Simms or Kipling and Colfax for a search.

Thank you for the info. What tire treatment do you allow? Do you have an idea as to how many guys will race the 17.5 2 cell class? Thanks

Thank you for the info. What tire treatment do you allow? Do you have an idea as to how many guys will race the 17.5 2 cell class? Thanks

Track is a Jack only for treatment.

17.5 / 2 cell is normally one of our largest groups on the track in Ft. Collins. If you come into town, you could run in Denver on Friday, and the track in Fort Collins, 60 miles north (where I live) runs Saturday night. 126' line and 3.1 - 3.2 sec laps for 17.5. So if you came in on Thursday, you could run two days and then go back home.

PM me if you need more info.

Maybe, come play in Fort Collins at the E-Plex 1 Saturday in between. Good Times to be had!! Plus they have the best stocked RC store in the state at this time for carpet racing!!!

Corally Jack the Gripper is the only traction compound you can use. It's oderless and works pretty well once you get used to it.

We have pit tables, but if you toss it in, it might come in handy. Bring a chair and power strip. We have good power to each row of tables, just need to be able to get it to your spot. Our tables are set so we can have 50 racers with 4' x 2' area.

Mark, again thank you for the info. To bad I can't think of all these questions at the same time. Do you guys have a minimun chassis height on carpet? Are you going to measure car height and weight? If so what are these numbers? Thanks for your time. Saturday sounds like a good idea. I will have to see. Craig

Grenade10
10-18-2009, 12:36 PM
Yes, we will check ride height, weight and body and wing's as well. I need to confirm on the ride height and get back to you. Would follow the TOUR Rules. Satyrday nights are a good time at the E-Plex.

Craig where are coming in from??

Mark

Mark, most carpet tracks have a minimun chassis height 0f 4.5 mm. The tour rules seam to say 4 3/8" roof height and 38 oz. minimum weight. Let me know what you guys decide on. I live in the SLC Utah area and will try to make your race if the weather cooperates. We have been doing a little asphalt oval racing this summer. I sure would like to get back on some carpet again. Mark, I checked the rules. Are you going to go with 38 oz. or 41oz.? Thanks Craig

For the 21.5 / 2 cell class 38.

All 1 cell classes are 34. EDIT FOR TYPO 36OZ!!!

All round 4 cell cars is 41.

For the 17.5/2 cell we have been working with 41, but a sugestion last night was to allow the 7.5's to run with them. It might make sense to run the 17.5/2 cell cars run at 38, and maybe the 4 cell 10.5 at the same as well. Really the 7.5's should run their own class, but we'll have to make this call at the track. Sorry I do not have a diffinative answer for this class.

I'm not sure we have been following the roof heights. With the bodies for the COT cars 13.5/1 cell, we want these to be done on the cut lines, and the front "Spoiler" can not be less than 1/8" in thickness.

Other than that, we have allowed the bodies some lattiude. We could set up a way to check the roof height, and we may be able to get there by next week.

John, yes all 1 cell is 36oz. I MADE AN OPERATOR ERROR WHEN TYPING, SORRY!

21.5 2/cell lipo is 38oz and 17.5 2/cell as well as round cell cars would be 41oz.

After running the 7.5's last night, I'm wondering if the 17.5 2 cell should be allowed to run at the 38oz weight with the 7.5's maybe adding weight to the same and see how close they then get. If we have 4 or more 7.5's they should be in their own class, which gets rid of of this issue. I'd also think that 10.5 1 cell would run with the 17.5 2 cells as we talked.

Just want to give racers with older set ups a chance to come out and play.

I think to summerize what Mark posted, 1 cell 13.5 is a min of 36 oz, any 4 cell are 41oz, 21.5/2S lipo is 38oz, 17.5/2S lipo is 41, and 7.5 1 cell will start out at 36 oz, but might go up to 38 to slow them down to run with the 17.5/2S.

Well we are down to 96 hours before practice should start!!!:)

Racing will be as follows:

Track should be ready around 10:30 (maybe a little later for this first day) for practice.
Registration will close at 5:45, but you can call in if your running late
1st round of qualifications will start at 6:30 sharp, 4 min qualifiers
2nd round at 7:30
3rd round at 8:30
Door Prizes and raffel will be done after the last qualifiers
Mains should start between 9:30 - 9:45 We will follow the BRL and seat the top 6 in the A-main, with the winner of the B taking 7th and 8th place being the fastest run in the lower mains (not including the B winner). All mains will be 75 laps. 8 car mains, no bump up from lower mains other than the fastest run.

Touring class is for cars set up for road racing and not specific for oval. To keep this even, this class AND ONLY THIS CLASS will have the direction of the race done just prior to the start ..... So you may be doing all left or all right turns!!

So lets bring the cars and trucks out and have a great time!!

I hope you guys had a great time today. They wouldn't let me out of Wyoming. I-80 was closed again today due to high winds. I had the great pleasure to drive to Rawlins Wyoming and then back home. That was a good 11 hours wasted. Oh well, maybe I can make it to one of your other races. Please post how things went and how the classes turned out. Did you break up the 17.5/2c and the 7.5/1c cars? If you kept them together how did that work out? Thanks Craig

Grenade10
10-31-2009, 02:53 PM
Craig, sorry to hear about your travel plans being affected by the weather.

We had a very good day of racing. Made some changes to the track layout, barrieres .... teething pain for a first event. But, in the end, what we have come up with will be dialled for the next race November 27th.

The 7.5 / 1 cell will be thier own class if there are enough to make a class as they are 'significantly' faster than the 17.5 2 cell and 19 turn or 10.5 4 cell cars.

We ended up with 28 entries along with many racers coming by to see how the track was. One of our long time Colorado oval racers, and a very fast racer said the track is in the top 1% in the USA. He could not believe how smooth and fast the track was. Being new carpet and running 'left' we had carpet fuz, but was getting less by the end of the evening.

I'll get the points done and up, but Chris was going to post the results on the CORRC web site sometime this weekend. www.CORRC.org

Two of us ran our COT 13.5/1 cell cars (new stock) and this should be a great class to get going. Bodies handle well, controllable power and would make for some fun close racing. So if your thinking about doing a new car this would be a good one to start.

Also, the 10.5 / 1 cell is pretty close to the 21.5 / 2 cell, but I think the 2 cell has a little better speed. I'll let slotracer comment on what his thoughts were as well.

So see everyone the day after Thanksgiving.

Mark

PS with the series drawings, we gave away $30 in cash and $20 in Hobby Town gift cards. Look for this and more at the next event.

slotracer577
11-01-2009, 11:48 AM
I think once the 10.5 is dialed it will be as fast as the 21.5. I seemed to be a little slower off the corner, but that was my driving, not the motor. Should be really close.

FWIW the 13.5 1C were really close to the 21.5 trucks at e-team last night. Fast lap in 21.5 was less than .1 faster and I think they only got in 1 extra lap over the COT. Larry Mullins put on a show for us in stock class in a rent a ride. So lets get some more stock class cars out in Denver.

Hey guys..My name is Jeff and am originally from Illinois. I have over 20 years of R/C racing in Illinois/Wisconsin and have also raced in National events all over the country. I have been out of R/C for about 5 years and I see that EVERYTHING has changed. I am used to racing 6 cells and 10 turn triples and now it is 1-2 cells and no more brushes...I used to run KSG's and carpet knifes, and had tire, chassis, motor and battery sponsors (back in the day). BTW I raced mostly oval (10th and 12th), but near the end was racing on road and just getting into touring car.

I am interested in getting back into it competitively and want to know where to start. I would like to get answers to the following questions:

1. what classes are hot out here? (touring, oval, other)
2. in that class what are the hot chassis, tires, electronics, bodies, cells?
3. how many tracks are there (within 100 miles radius of denver)?
4. When are the next races so I can come and check out the status of racing out here?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Jeff Rey
