From the Brooklyn Graphic 10/8/09;

Hot Wheels "Renegade"

" A 41-year-old man was arrested last week after he allegedly swiped a set of Hot Wheels cars from a local Toys R' Us store & then led workers on a breakneck race for the exit.
Police said that Michael Degennaro was charged with robbery in the 2nd degree,assault & petit larceny after he allegedly fought off workers at the Marine park Toy's R' Us on Flatbush Aveenue near Floyd Bennett Field.
Workers told police that they spotted Degennaro allegedly taking the Hot Wheels cars from a a shelf & putting them in his pants.
He allegedly made a hasty escape to the door but store employe's intervened before he could reach the parking lot.
(snip)
Cops stopped the 41 -year-old,recovered the property & rolled him off to the 63rd precinct without incident,officers said."

:confused: From a 10-year-old I can understand but a grown 41-year-old man ?:freak:

He makes a break for the door with contraband stuffed down his pants... with a street value of .... $3.97!!!!!!! That'll blow NY's October crime statistics all to heck.

Seriously though, I think the guy has a rock solid defense. Limited mental capacity. "Judge, he was cranky and didn't want to share because it was past time for his nap. "

Not saying what he did was right... obviously it's not, but the entire story isn't being told... WHY did he do it?

I had this very same thing happen here... someone went into a Wal-Mart and lifted some small toys and tried to leave, but this guy had the master plan... he figured nobody would think to check the backpack he put them in. Douchebag right?

Well, a little more investigation into the matter revealed the guy had been out of work for almost 6 months. He had twin sons with a birthday that day and zero money to buy them anything. The guy was in tears when we took him in. He was processed, and released with an appearance ticket. I then went into the Wal-Mart and bought him $50 worth of toys to give to his kids, then dropped him off at his home.

Now I can't say this guy was in the same boat, but sometimes people get desperate and do stupid things...

Oddly the same thought popped into my head this morning when I was looking at this thread.

Either way ya slice it; it's a very sad story.
