Hey, has anyone got their hands on the TSDS J-2 fusion core light kit from Henry? I got one for the Polar Lights J-2 that I finished a few weeks ago and really liked it. It is plug-n-play, very bright, and has 4 speeds. He sold out of them really quick. I should have bought at least 2. Hind sight and what-not. I basically tossed it in loose and hid the 9 volt at the hull edge. I hate to pressure the guy, he's a heck of a nice man. Having said that, I hope the owners of these light kits put some gentle pressure on him to produce a few more. At $70 some bucks, I imagine he was maybe breaking even. I'm all about plug-n-play. I am terrible at wiring. (I'm sending my VooDoo FX pod core to my brother for soldiering!)

Ultimately, I'm praying for a Moebius version. Heck, the PL version is so bright, I would consider using this one. Here's a direct link to it:

By the way, the VooDoo FX pod light kit is stunning. I highly recommend it. There is just something about bringing these fusion cores alive with lights that really makes these models!!

Hi --

Thanks for the kind words. I only had 7 of those things. They were the prototype and some made after I approved the prototype. I sold them cheaply because they are frankly too expensive to manufacture. I'm still looking for a place to manufacture them at a more reasonable price, and I'd like to do one for the Moebius kit. Sadly, I'd have to order thousands of them to get a decent break in the price, and I just don't have that kind of cash sitting around... But I'm still looking. I am _not_ going to sell anything that is not ready-to-use, fully plug 'n play, so don't worry about that. The problem is this: I'm not an electrical engineer. I hired one as a subcontractor, and I showed him videos of what it was supposed to look like, and after swapping about 30 emails, he made up a drawing and a got a circuit board printed. He then had me provide him with materials, and he got out his soldering iron and put one together. It has the LED's facing downwards, some how he did not get that they were supposed to be on the edge. However, it was enough to tell me that it did actually do exactly what I wanted it to do. Also, all the components were mounted on the wrong side of the circuit board, which made it sit a little bit higher than I wanted in the kit. And he was charging me $35 a piece just to assemble, and I had to provide all the components and, of course, pay for the manufactured circuit board. This whole thing too almost a year to do. And he started a new job and did not really have time for this anymore.

I decided to try to find a manufacturer then, only to find that all the drawings my engineer had made and list of materials needed to be in a different (industry-standard) format. I would have to hire another electrical engineer just to get things in the proper format and then I'd be able to get anyone to manufacture it. Well, by this time I was a bit deep into it, so I backed away, sold the few I had, and have been giving the matter more thought.

At this point, I'll just likely see exactly what it will cost me to make them, and whatever money I'm short, I may seek to generate some discounted pre-sales from my existing customers that know I'm not full of crap and won't be stealing from them. They will, instead, get the full product for a discounted price and will be the first to get the product. I'm hoping not to have to do this, but until I get a quote, I really won't know. There are things that I want to improve upon with the present design, and it's actually nice not to have to worry about anything right now -- I'll figure out what I want and what it will take to accomplish it.

Anyway, that's why I did not run amok like I usually do an announce it as a product for sale -- I only had a few, with no expectations of getting more for a bit yet.

I'll post something when I know more. In the meantime, I'm really glad you liked it (it is BRIGHT, though, isn't it?). I have not abandoned the project!

Anyone hear if he's going to make more?
VooDoo FX is also out of stock and is working on a new version but no word on when they should be out.

The rather long answer is in the post above your question!

The VFX hardware shouldn't take much longer, as the boards have been delivered. But then he has to write the usual excellent instructions; and that takes as long as it takes (sigh).

Thanks for the info, Henry! I must say, I've been so happy with all your products. Especially the decals. Some of the best water-slides I've used. Sorry to put you on the spot like this with the light kits. I just wanted you to know how good that product was, in lieu of the Moebius arrival.

I'll know something within the next 10 days or so. I won't forget about you, either! You did not put me on the spot. As far as I'm concerned, this new model from Moebius is going to HAVE to have an affordable lighting option. Between the kit costs and decals, it's going to be pricy as is. Not to mention some kind of standard interior lighting! I'm working on something really cool for it, though. I have my fingers crossed, too!
