That's why Roland Emerich is such a creative genius. He never gives us the same thing twice. :p

Believe it or not, I'm looking forward to this movie. Having grown up on Godzilla and Irwin Allen and George Pal's When Worlds' Collide, this looks like a perfect remake. Something to catch a matinee and munch on some popcorn - nothing more....

I think my credulity may have been strained in there somewhere. But it does look like a fun movie theater experience. Can't be any worse than 10,000 BC!

I'm going to go see it, for the same reasons that Gene gives - it's a fun-lovin' popcorn romp of a flick. I've never had any real problems separating the reality of what we see in movies from that of Reality - given that movies are usually meant as Escapist Fantasy.

I just hope the pseudo-science we're sure to see is at least consistent w/in the frame of the movie. That's about the only thing that tends to jar me about flicks like this. "The Core", anyone...?

Emmerich usually gives good spectacle even as his scripts (let alone premises) are stupider'n rutabagas. This one looked impressive the first time I saw a promo. This ad that started playing a few nights ago - man, by the third or fourth airing it had laughing my guts out at the OOT ridiculousness of it. Love the train flying at the plane.

This one's no different. If the Mayan's could see it, they'd be laughing themselves into a stupor. Apocalypse beacause their calendar cycle is ending? Nuts, I've been through the same thing every January 1st. After a few years, these ends of the world start to lose their immediacy.

I saw the trailer last night. I wanted more. If it was playing I would have grabbed my jacket right then to go see it!

Okay it is a disaster flick and I am sure the plot is stale and tired but I will wait and see.
What grabbed me (and it was why they showed it) are great SFX. I loathe bad CGI and bad CGI has ruined many a film for me. The stuff they broadcast looked pretty darn GREAT! The bit they showed of the runway disintegrating reminded me of how much I hated the Langoliers with it's bad bad SFX.

I will see it and probably buy it on its DVD release.

The fx do look impressive. That's not the only consideration, though, you have to consider how they're applied. Let's just say I can't believe there was no shot of a kitchen sink hurtling at that plane.

I don't know about MightyMax, but *I* don't have to consider any such thing beyond what I mentioned above - internal consistancy. My only consideration for what I call a Popcorn Flick is where to sit for maximum viewing effect. ;)

If I were looking for a great film that would move me, anything by Emmerich would never make the top 100 reasons to see such a movie. :D

Watch the TV Show Supernatural lately? It's the Apocalypse and Lucifer is walkin' the Earth lookin' for his Vessel. That's all it is. No reason to get too worried just yet.

Actually, all that news had me thinking about "Crack in the World", as, if I remember the film, it was set in that neck of the woods.

I have "Crack in the World" on Dvd. What a great flick! This does kinda remind me of that. Time to dig it out and watch it again! LOL

The real problem with this film is that it's based on the belief by some people that because the Mayan calendar ends on December 21st, 2012, it means the world will come to an end on that day. Whether the film is good, bad, or indifferent, it will only play into and increase the paranoia for these people, and the rest of us are gonna have to deal with it/them.

Tell me about it! Same thing's been happening to me with another movie. Ever since Zombieland came out I've been shot at, had people try to put screwdrivers in my brain, had pianos shoved out of windows above me, been beat over the head with a baseball bat, etc. I wish these people would just get a life!

Between the SFX and John Cusack, I'm sure I'll end up watching it when it comes out on DVD. Cusack has made a lot of mediocre movies watchable imho.

Nahh! I really enjoy feeling like a zombie. Takes my mind off all my worries. Besides, I need an excuse for going up to attractive females and biting them.:p

OK, the effects looked spectacular. But the whole idea of outracing an earthquake in a car was so outlandish that I stopped 'suspending my disbelief' about a minute into the trailer.

And I'm a Space:1999 fan. I have a very high ceiling from which to suspend my disbelief!
