View Full Version : MORL 2010 Question
Loony 09-18-2009, 03:34 PM With Proving Grounds building such a large facility and it being an indoor track, If they were to bid for a spot on the 2010 MORL schedule It would make sense to place them at the first race due to spring rains and a rain date would never be needed.
I guess this is more of a wish than a question, but I am curious of the answer.
Would it even be considered or is Litchfield always first and that's that?
How is the schedule made?
What happens if 7 tracks owners show up to bid for 5 spots?
Thanks in advance
I know MORL is a summer series but IMO an indoor track could be a nice change- any thoughts.
Loony
Nolan31 09-18-2009, 03:57 PM In the past it was up to the track owner to contact the series to put in a request or offer to be part of the series not sure if this still stands but I am sure Proving Grounds will be put in once it is on the map and running can't wait.....................
ehartman_49348 09-18-2009, 04:04 PM Nolan is right: the track needs to submit a form to the organizers and then early in the year a meeting is held with all the interested parties and a decision is made on where the races will be and when.
FYI: Proving Grounds will have an outdoor track too, that I believe is scheduled to open as early as spring 2010...

Yes sir, there is 5 acres of outdoors for a nice big track to find a home on spring 2010.
sbrady#0 09-18-2009, 04:56 PM how big is nice big 4 laps in 6 min
hankster 09-18-2009, 05:04 PM Maybe it could be added as a 6th race as it wouldn't matter what month (Apr. or Oct.) it was run.
sbrady#0 09-18-2009, 05:08 PM 6 races hank are you looking for more MORL races that would be fun one more track would make the points differant
Loony 09-18-2009, 05:49 PM I like your thinking Hank....
I say keep the banquet in Oct
and go for the first race in April.
Everyone wins!
hankster 09-18-2009, 07:26 PM It appears that in 2010 we will have enough different tracks to have 6 races unlike past years where even 5 couldn't be found. Heck, could even go to 8 races at different tracks.... but I wouldn't even suggest that ;)

420 Tech R/C 09-19-2009, 09:56 AM The series has been a 5 race series since well.. forever.Getting the powers that be to change that is going to be like pulling teeth.

I know... I just thought I would ask...
Hank is right though, in 2010 there will be enough tracks to easily support a 6
race w/1 drop series.
420 Tech R/C 09-19-2009, 02:12 PM Yeah with all the tracks springing up you would think the # of racers has trippled in the last few years or something.

modbugy 09-20-2009, 12:36 AM woooo that wood be so cool if 7 orrr 8 track owners wood come forth and race them alll weeehooo even more fun. why does a morl tack have to be outside?cant we race inside and pit outside they do it in calyfuna,i think that wood the best controlled track conditions ever lol no sun in the eyes oo i just wet my self well my 1/2cent back to day dreaming.:wave:
Fred B 09-20-2009, 12:59 PM Or perhaps with all of the new tracks we could stick with 5 MORL races. It's a lot cheaper to travel to the other tracks around and club race. You know that thing we did like 20 years ago before everyone decided to just run "big" races.

exactly Fred.If I didnt support 2 racers in my budget I could make more big races. but to be honest I enjoy the casual club environment more than the big race style hustle and bustle.5 large races a season is fine with me,any more than that and my budget wouldnt allow it.
Leonard 09-20-2009, 02:07 PM Would it be 1 or 2 drops with 6 races? Out of 5 races some people can only make 4 anyway due to other things going on and what not.
hankster 09-20-2009, 04:24 PM I'd say 2 drops with 6 races.
Loony 09-20-2009, 06:32 PM I'd say 2 drops with 6 races.

FishRC 09-21-2009, 10:20 AM E, I'll get you the form. We have a meeting usualy in Febuary to go over rules and the schedule. That meeting will likely be again at Trippers and any bidding tracks are asked to send a representitive to the meeting if possible, though it does not help get a race if there is no one there representing your track. We have had the pleasure the last two years of having more tracks interested in hosting a race than dates. Michigan and ROAR Region 5 is really one of the strongest for offroad racing if you don't live in Southern CA.
REVO-Beat-U 09-21-2009, 11:20 AM Hi Fish. I am on the phone with E right now, he wants to make sure that the MORL series and the guys we met at BFG (the race officials) know it is Proving Grounds intention to represent the Grand Rapids area in 2010 by hosting a MORL event. We will definitely be at the meeting in February. And if you have not already done so, please forward the form to E so he can get it filled out, thanks. Looking forward to a great 2010!

Leonard 09-22-2009, 05:43 PM No offense to Duke, he has a great facilty, but a huge morl race there, I think he would drive himself to a caniption trying to keep the offroad bums off his oval ! By the way it is one sweet oval.

if it well known to stay off the oval track, i dont think it would be an issue to have a morl race at dukes... yes it is an awsome oval
Uncle E 09-22-2009, 08:14 PM But the razor was approved, I think all the guys should take their kid's razors for the next oval race and run a race on them ( that would make the greatest youtube video ever)
