Not exactly. MM were produced because of the artwork of Rohan Day. However, you can probably assume that Rohan may have been influenced by CARToons and Dave Deal and other such efforts.

I don't think so, but I don't frequent comic book stores so I can't say for sure. I think there may have been a short-lived come-back at one time. You can get original ones on ebay, of course.
