Come on guys, this is the last big show of the outdoor season.:( The track has been fast and plenty of good racing. There is no good reason to not make the biggest race of the year at Competition Hobbies! The boys from out west are going to make the trip I'm sure...so the locals better come out and try to defend the home turf...

OOHHHHH What a Great Day

The weather was perfect and the track surface in even better; the racers fantastic, the hospitality superb by the folks at Competition Hobbies.

The track was so good in fact, that long hauler Pace Gendron was lucky enough to be in a four car heat, with one car not making the call in round two and proceeded to put the first ever 54 lap run down by a DODC 17.5 Small Block [54 4:04.228] !!!!

Bob Godgard had a slightly faster car, but being is a full heat and the natural traffic that occurs made is run right on the track record at 53 4:00.04.

We knew Pace was serious about this event, as he made the 4+ hour drive to Competition 3-4 weeks ago on a Monday night to test and tune. Do you think he wanted this one bad!!!! Nice job driver

But that's not the only big story in the DODC 17.5 Small Block class, which has 20 regulars on a Monday night and is by far the hardest A main to qualify for in the Northeast, or I dare say anywhere for that matter. Routinely, from the A to the back of the B is less than a lap.

Well, Wade Rowley makes the 3+ hour trip and finds theh qualifying tough. So tough he winds up in the D! But, he goes on to play one of the best games of alphabet soup ever:
He wins the 7 car D main (some claimed it was survived)
Finishes seond in the C, on the lead lap to local hot shoe Josh Bunn
Finishes second in the B to CT out of towner Dale Cote
But the luck ran out in the A with a 5th place finish, just one lap down

Now, the rest of the story; in between the C and B.....Wade goes out an wins the DODC 13.5 Sprint car race over Pace and myself. Wade was still shaking when I presented him his trophy 15 minutes later!!! Another grerat jon driver.

Now, the DODC 17.5 Small Block main was a dog fight. And, with the heads up start you would think the front row of Pace and Bob would run off and hide. Well, that's why we run the race; as anything was farther from the truth. With this race going off last, the sun had put a hurt on the outside of turn 3 and if you were more that 1.5 car widths high entering that turn; it was hold on for a loooooong four wheel drift or a quick 360 depending on your ser-up. And I think every driver did at least one of each. The other issue was the bright sun angle now coming right into your eyes coming out of turn 2; of and don't forget the contrasting back stretch between bright sun and dark shadows.
Race Recap by lap:
2: Bob bobbles goes from 2 to 7
10: Pace bobbles drops to 3, Bobby H leads
12: Bill R takes the point, Bobby to 2
13: Pace up to 2nd
16: Godgart up to 4th
20: Bill R bobbles to 4th running order: Bobby, Pace, Bob, Bill, Wade, Tom, Dale(Out)
26: Bob up to 2, Pace stumbles to 4, Bill back up to 3
42: Bob goes from 3 car lengths back to 4th, Bill 2, Pace 3, Bobby still leads
60: Bobby holds on for the win with Bii less than 1/2 second back

The DODC Late Model shoot was an epic battler between Mike Watson and Steve Van Horn; with Mike taking the checkers handily.

The EDM Outlaw class saw three drivers trying there luck, but they just couldn't get the power down as TQ was 53 laps. Proof that power doesn't equal speed, as the Small Bloks went faster!! In the end it was double duty Dave Peek taking home the checkers.

That brings us to the DODC 13.5 Big Block event.
We were missing a couple of Monday night regulars due to scheduling conflicts and illness in the family; but ot was a steller field none the less.
With John E dropping out it made a 7 car B
The front row was long haul Dylan W and new College guy Sam L, who hasn't seen the track in 4 weeks. But Dylan ran into trouble on lap 7; dropping to 4 from which he could not recover; and moving Leary and Miller to the transfer positions. Leary would bobble on lap 15, allowing Bob G to 2, and Miller to 1; but two laps later those two would tangle and Bob would drop of of transfer land for the rest of the event and allow Sam to re-take it making it Miller and Leary at the end. Good to Steve making a rare college season race (must be so must flu at school he needed some fresh air)

In the A, with Hotaling on the point you usually are racing to stay on the lead lat; but this race saw several lead challenges and some leads thrown away like live grenades. Dave P had something for the kid, but got impatient on lap four in turn two and fell from 2 to 4 and could never mount another serious challenge. Steve M had his chance, taking the lead on lap 20, but anb unforced error on lap 30 dropped him to 3; with Jeff and Bob H sweeping by. For the next 50 laps Bob would make some great runs at Jeff getting to with a car length and even checking up twice in turn four so as not to dump Jeff (apparently Bob didn't see Jeff race Cris Taylor at the Summer Nats (LOL)). Bob would even lose 2nd for a while to Steve M but race right back to reclaim a very strong 2nd with Jeff Grabbing the checkers.

See the printout attached for complete results.

Thanks to each and every racer for supporting and participating in this years WDRA events, and supporting the sport in general.

Thanks to all the Sponsors who donated door prices. again this year, each and every racer received a door price at this years event. That's 5 years running! I challenge any other event to match this kind of support.

A very very very very Special THANK YOU to Todd Putnam. His tireless efforts to support this sport which he loves so much and wants everyone involved to have as much fun as he has enjoyed over the years; puts him head and shoulders above anyone else. Once again this year Todd donated a complete rolling chassis for the WDRA points fund. This year's winner was John Ellinger!!! Congratulations John.

Once I receive the mailed results from Chico's I'll tally up the points and post those results.

Next year Wade Rowley has graciously volunteered to be the Assistant Director and provide some much needed help and western territory coordination.

That's a wrap

See Ya.................At The Track

The racetrack went away at the end, but it was the best day track I have ever raced on. Great job Jerry:thumbsup: The fastest cars don't always win the race, Patients grasshopper!

First time for me at this track and a WDRA series race. Actually first time running an EDM. Had a great time good racing on a bullring brings back memories from the early 90's. I will be back next year since I found out it's only a 2 hour ride up there. Nice to meet some new people. Kirt great job calling the races al day.

It was great to see so many travel from other states (and countries) to compete. Perfect weather, and kudos to Jerry on the track prep - surface looked awesome.

Congratulations to Bobby Hollner on winning Small Block. Although I didn't get to see the race, anytime you can win an A-Main @ Comp, much less a series race, you earned it. Nice job kid!

Congratulations to Jeff Hotaling on his Big Block win. Even though it seems like more of a shock when you lose than when you win, winning isn't easy. Nice work - now clean your own tires ya punk. ;)

Congrats to all the winners, competitors and to John Ellinger for winning the Pro-Car raffle!

A big kudos, thanks and standing ovation to Kirt Coonradt for taking over the WDRA and traveling all over the Northeast organizing, running and calling the races whenever needed. Your efforts do not go unnoticed, and we are proud to be the sponsor of such a great series.

Thanks to all who have supported the series, can't wait to do it again next year...

thanks to the CDRC crew for a good racing day!! you guy are really lucky to have a dirt oval track where you can race every week!! running dirt oval only 10-15 time per years is not enought!!!

it was nice to run the WDRA series.....in my mind this series is the best...cuz you don t have to care about what the other driver are running in their car for motors and batteries cuz everyone have the same power program!! you have to work on your car and drive it!!! i wish the same for carpet.....but i think i can only dream abut that!!!

i want to thanks Kirt for the series!! you have doing a really good job!! i really enjoy it!! and can't wait for next season!! Can't wait to run in EDM BB.... Hotaling you are next!!! lol:tongue:;)
