No if someone would just rebuild Ape City.

No if someone would just rebuild Ape City.

Down the road, take the left. :)

I seem to recall it lasted a pretty good amount of time. naturally the parts not built for physical stress fell apart but there were core buildings that held together, IIRC.

I think it had to be all bulldozed down finally.

I believe Carson meant the Adobe style Ape City from the original Planet Of The Apes movie.

Yup.

At least the lake where Heston gets shot in the throat is still there...

http://www.ics.uci.edu/~jpd/misc/apecity.htmlAll these years, and I never knew the UC Irvine campus was used in addition to the famous Century City locations for Conquest of the Planet of the Apes.

Guess I'll have to turn in my geek badge.

Heston got shot at the bottom of the ravine which is close to the front of the park near Malibu Canyon Rd. The little pond is where the Astronauts went for a swim before being captured.

Boy, those guys at the park will tell people anything! The "Blandings house" isn't even on the property! True, it is near by but not on the grounds of the former Fox ranch. Also, I don't believe that the famous jump from "Butch Cassidy" was filmed there either, have to watch it again to be sure. I'm not sure what the former care takers house at the ranch was built for (if it wasn't already on the land when the studio bought it) but it has been seen in various shows (mostly TV) over the years.

Thanks, Phil. I stand (swim) corrected.

The old Fox Ranch or Malibu Creek State Park is a GREAT place to visit! Especially if you are into hunting out old filming locations. Many locations used in "Apes" can also be seen in the TV series of "Kung Fu," "Daniel Boone," "The Man From Uncle," "Ark 2," and many others. Before Fox purchased the property it was a private hunting and fishing club called "The Crags" which was named for the peaks on the property. The original "Crags" Country Club stood on top of what is now known as the rock climbing area. Once Fox purchased the property, the Clubhouse was demolished and the foundation was filled in with dirt, but the stone foundation and stairs remain. This was the location of the outdoor cage in "Apes," and Roddy McDowall & Kim Hunter walk up those very stone steps to see Taylor in the film. You can still run into film crews if you visit. Many series still film there. I've run into crews from "CSI," and "Star Trek: Enterprise."

I would love to get a hold of the original blueprints of the exterior set they mentioned in that article. I put together a set of my own a few years back based on both the movie and television configurations:

I used these two maps to build them, the first from the big M*A*S*H coffee table book and the second from the TV Guide article that was published when the series finale aired:

And for those interested, here's what the site looks like now from the air. You can definitely see the jeep, ambulance and picnic table:
