View Full Version : 1/64 Ertl American Muscle
carsdownunder 09-10-2009, 03:24 PM Here is my collection of Ertl American Muscle / Route 66 cars
What am I missing in the way of colours ? I am only talking about the American Muscle castings, if anyone knows ?
Or does anyone have a list of models/colours ?
I know Route 66 used Racing Champions castings but that is another story

dragonhead00 09-10-2009, 10:25 PM Wow. You have a great collection there. I only have a few, so I can't help you. I just wanted to comment on your collection.
88th division 09-11-2009, 07:52 AM Fantastic collection! I only have one of these. A 1961 Impala SS on blister card in blue. Very nice.
MBXJimbob 09-11-2009, 07:58 AM wow! Some beauties in there! Nice collection indeed!
dipstick 09-11-2009, 08:05 AM I have the master list of both series - but have not had time to format and publish.
sheldon 09-12-2009, 03:43 AM Greg,
Why don't you come up with a list and post it.. and I will post the most complete list I know of... deal?
Robert

Robert
Still trying to suck off other people's work I see....
You don't have a list to post, unless you are referring the the one I made.
79f150 09-12-2009, 10:48 AM i love the ertl american muscle 164!
sheldon 09-12-2009, 03:44 PM Hugger78,
I love giving away your marvelous work and glorious contributions away to society!!! Perhaps we shall have a 'Hugger78 Day' to supersede President's Day or July 4th?
Can't believe you're still defensive over that monumental triviality?
I've always had a list in text format of all my cars (not just Ertl) since the mid 90s, and then took your incomplete spreadsheet file, reformatted and significantly modified it, and of course added several cars onto it... so what is left of your original list is quite a bit less than what I have contributed to it...
I thought this was supposed to be a closed case...you are are quite silly.... and yes, I will post it again again and again and again for all to see. But this time, I will post a text file so you have NO Intellectual Property claims.
Hugger78 09-12-2009, 06:40 PM Sheldon,
Do what you have to do to feel big and important, I don't care.
As for me, it is simply Mind Over Matter.
I don't mind, beause you don't matter....
dipstick 09-12-2009, 06:43 PM Come on guys..... Can't we all just get along?
Once i get my project done everyone will be able to share equally.....
carsdownunder 09-13-2009, 12:30 AM Well,
Thanks for most of the replies, All I was mainly interested in was finding out which ones I was missing, So I could find and purchase them, because I really love this line and of the 17 castings produced , Correct me if I am wrong,
I think that no other maker has made better castings of the cars that Ertl did back then , maybe the Greenlight or M2 Daytona, but the rest IMO are Unequaled, is that a word, in 1'64 scale
ANYWAY, Thanks for all the Positive comments
P.S. Dipstick when you get your list done can you send it to me or post it please
Greg , Carsdownunder
sheldon 09-13-2009, 04:06 PM Greg,
I agree with you, independent of price, I believe the best 1:64 castings ever were the HW collectibles line, M2, the Chevy Drag line from Muscle Machines, Shelby Collectibles, and a one off by GMP, and a couple of castings from GL and JL (certainly NOT the entire line sadly).
However, I would not place most GL in this category, they are more like the majority of the JLs.
Other nice castings - but seriously lacking features (closed) or in some cases detail - are Kyosho, CMs, Norev, Shuco, JL, Maisto, Jada, Matchbox, Minichamps (despite being so expensive).

I agree the Ertl American Muscle were some of the best castings. They were also true to the scale instead of using the LARGE RC castings. I suspect that is why we are seeing some in the JL line now. Wish we could see more of the 60 Starliner......
I also agree with the MiniChamps comment. I am stunned at the cost of these. The subject matter hit (Alfa 8C, Bentleys) but the lion's share are redos that have all ready been done in the scale. I suspect the price is reflective of the royalties more than anything.
My fav right now are the Tomica Limited Vintage............ I am amazed at every casting I pick up.
sheldon 09-13-2009, 06:59 PM Dipstick,
The TLV castings I've seen have decent detail, but NO features such as any openings... and of course their subject matter is quite boring... and unattractive.
Do you make reference to any particular car so I may look it up on epay?
sheldon 09-14-2009, 04:47 PM Greg (and anyone else),
Please check out the attached list I have in TXT format... you can do whatever you like - no IP problems here, OK?
54belair 09-28-2009, 02:48 PM I began collecting the 1/43 American Muscle cars then became turned off after running into cars with paint problems (blistering). Because of this, I never even looked at any of the 1/64 although the ones that you've shown here look really great. Nice collection!
swagfu 11-26-2009, 10:58 PM Where can I find the 1/64th scale to buy? I have a couple of Ertl cars, but only got those by a big lot of cars off craigslist and they happen to be in there. None of the stores around here carry them that I have ever seen. At least not the auto lines. I have seen some tractors and farm equipment.

I think your best bet would be Ebay, Followed by swapmeets/diecast shows etc, I got them when they 1st came out, around 7+ years ago.
Goodluck!!
Greg (Carsdownunder)
swagfu 11-27-2009, 02:34 PM Just looked on ebay and those are some expensive little cars. I will have to think about these. I don't think the two I have are of the quality you speak of. But the ones on ebay are pretty sweet looking.

Keep an eye out and make the occasional snag. That's what I've done. They are very impressive little cars. Incredible detail inside, outside, under hood and trunk, and even the undercarriage.
72challenger 03-23-2010, 11:06 AM Just got two of the '71 Charger R/Ts in from edseldave and WOW! The detail is outstanding for 1:64!
Now I just have to find a Daytona to go along with them

Greg I'm so impress of yr 1/64 collection of Route 66 series, Its better than M2 cars and a close second to my GL cars. On this table its all 1/64 scale cars or this is a mix of 1/43 and 1/18?....Again awesome collection!....Camaro75...out
carsdownunder 03-29-2010, 04:10 PM They are all 1/64 scale in the pics,
Thanks! Greg (Carsdownunder)
born to ride 06-26-2010, 12:23 PM I also enjoy these Ertl 1:64 muscle cars.I only have 53 of them and generally work from Sheldons list but collect only the ones with open trunks.I must have the easy ones as they are gettihg harder to find.I have a 68 Chevell in blue and black that came with out packaging and like the brown Ford thunder bolt does not have a licence plate or painted undercarrage. Is this an early or later car?
CraigO 06-27-2010, 03:17 AM people who fight on hobbytalk are pretty funny, big words, small minds,..and that is one beeeeyottiful collection sir.

Fortunately, HT has dubious people like you to stir the coals 9 months after the flames went out on their own.
dipstick 06-27-2010, 08:38 PM Come on CraigO - let's not pull the band-aid off an old wound. PLenty of good information and pictures in this string to concentrate on!!

Welcome to HT. I have never seen what you are describing. I looked at mine and they are all painted.

i have no idea what you are speaking of, but honestly, its funny to see grown men cyberfighting, especially over tiny cars.and dubious?
you don't know me one bit, keep your characterizations to yourself, if you want to start with the insults, then the small mind applys directly to you...to the gentlemen in the thread, i bid you good night.

1970 Chevrolet Camaro - Green & White Cooter
dipstick 06-30-2010, 03:37 PM 1970 Chevrolet Camaro - Green & Black Cooter
I think you meant green and white on this?
BostonBob 11-05-2010, 04:56 PM These Ertl 1:64 American Muscle are fantastic. I think I have just one (yellow Cougar) that I most likely picked up at Toys R US - but it was a long time ago so it could have been Child World or possibly Ann & Hope. So sad to see all these retailers going out of business.
I am now curious what these Ertl cars are fetching on the bay.
born to ride 11-05-2010, 10:42 PM I ran into this thread about a year ago, these cars are the best .Only thing made today in American Muscle that I like is Greenlight. At that time I had one
of each kind ,18 different, and a few extras.I now have 86 variations. My only sorce is the internet, most from Ebay.First 50 are easy, snag them in groups to save postage bid max 5.00 for new ones.Next ones you may only see a different one every few months,For these I will pay 10.00 if new. With only a few left for me. I will pay 15.00 for a new one I do not have.Good luck,Not to discurage you I have won some for 99 cents only paid 15.00 for one.
72challenger 11-06-2010, 11:28 AM When I was looking for a '69 Daytona, the eBay prices were pretty high as opposed to an early 2000's JL or Racing Champion. If you find one still packaged for less than $10, I'd say it's a good price.
Atencio 11-06-2010, 01:17 PM I have usually paid about $5.00 each. I have had better luck at local diecast shows than Ebay.
Atencio 11-06-2010, 01:20 PM These Ertl 1:64 American Classics (I think) are fantastic. I think I have just one (yellow Cougar) that I most likely picked up at Toys R US -
I bought the Yellow Cougar at Toys R US. It was the first diecast I had bought since the early 70's. Still among my favorite diecast cars

I found a white one at a swap meet for 2 bucks. I never thought I would see another one for less than 20 dollars.
68SUPERBEE440-6 11-08-2010, 09:23 PM did you ever see or gotten the 70 Fury Gt?
i got the route 66 collection....
all of them except for the 70 Fury!
its a typo
held1823 11-09-2010, 12:27 AM do you not include the black daytona that was only available as a companion car inside the 1/8th scale box?
http://i406.photobucket.com/albums/pp145/held1823/wing%20car%20collection/Ertl%201-64%20scale/black.jpg
http://i406.photobucket.com/albums/pp145/held1823/wing%20car%20collection/1-18%20Daytona/blackw1-64scale.jpg
i imagine the superbirds are excluded for being racing champions pieces?
http://i406.photobucket.com/albums/pp145/held1823/wing%20car%20collection/model%20kit%20Superbird/ertl1-64.jpg
i likely have a few extra packaged daytonas (white, red, and yellow, i think). i'd have to check on how nice the clamshells are. if someone is interested in them, p/m me
carsdownunder 11-09-2010, 12:50 PM That black Daytona is one I am missing
Another one I know that I am missing is the Black 71 Charger (That one I really need) if anyone has one, I will gladly pay or trade for it
Greg (Carsdownunder)

Any shots of that Fury's engine compartment and license plate? I found single carded Fury's but they all have a single air filter and BELV-1 on the plate which says to me that they were just putting Belvedere's in packages marked Fury XD I'm curious to know if any of the boxed Fury's are accurate.

I think there was also a maroon Thunderbolt used in the Concept and Muscle Series by RC/Ertl - has that been mentioned??
