View Full Version : Remember the 70's TV movie with the creepy little demons?
BEBruns 08-30-2009, 12:11 AM I was checking out the latest from Warner Brother's archive releases and was surprised to see Don't Be Afraid of the Dark (http://www.wbshop.com/Don't-Be-Afraid-of-the-Dark-+EST-MOD/1000112916,default,pd.html) has just been released.
If you're a certain age, you probably remember seeing this on TV, even if you don't remember the name.
razorwyre1 08-30-2009, 06:23 AM oh yes, ive been waiting for that ones release for the past month!
one of the best from that era of very good abc tv horror films.
Griffworks 08-30-2009, 09:19 AM Man, I remember that movie! Scared the crap outta me when I was a lil' guy - the sorta stuff I loved then and still do today! IMDb entry for Don't Be Afraid of the Dark (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069992/).
Looks like there's a remake (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1270761/) in the works, too.

John P 08-30-2009, 09:20 AM Sure, but they still won't release Crowhaven Farm!
Gemini1999 08-30-2009, 08:16 PM I actually do remember that movie! I remember that some of the more interesting TV movies that came from the early 70's were produced as entries for "The ABC Movie of the Week" that ran back then. ABC had specfic nights like Sunday, Tuesday, etc. where they ran 2 hour telefilms back in the day when networks actually used more scripted televsion instead of reality TV.
John mentioned Crowhaven Farm and I immediately flashed on a scene in my head where Hope Lange had a vision that she was being crushed under a wooden platform being loaded with stones for being a witch. I haven't seen that movie in nearly 40 years, but it's still in my memory.

sprayray 08-31-2009, 02:03 AM YEA the 70's , those were the days i have that movie in my collection loved Kim Darby in that role and how no one believed her about the knomes living in the basement , and who can forget the handyman played by Uncle charlie from my 3 sons, another goodie was Trilogy of Terror with Karen Black and that little doll , man that gave me nightmares, also Barbara Eden starred with an unborn demon baby in the stranger within , and my favorite was "The Other" about twin brothers and one died and the good twin still see his dead evil twin brother who pushes his mom down the stairs played by Diana Muldare , and also takes John Ritters newborn baby and puts him in a barrel of wine and they blame it on the town drunk played by Victor French that scene still sends shives down my spine the fav 70's we may never get them back but we sure will have great memories !!!

Griffworks 08-31-2009, 04:14 PM Gargoyles (1972) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0068622/)!
.
"Gargoyles" used to be available from VCI Entertainment, but it is no longer in their catalog. They also used to have "Birds of Prey", which starred David Janssen, and had some of the most fantastic helicopter flying ever put on film.
ABC did quite a few fantastic tv movies. Two I remember are "The Love War" about two small alien forces fighting over which side will get the Earth. "The Challenge", in order to avoid a war, the U.S. and a Asian nation each put one soldier on an island to decide the conflict. Darren McGavin with a double submachine gun, verses Mako.
I have to say that I find the Warner Brother's archive dvds expensive for what you get, so I'll have to pass on them.
David.

Mitchellmania 09-01-2009, 02:18 PM I love that movie! Commentary by Uncle Charlie!
X15-A2 09-02-2009, 12:04 PM I remember being down at Leo Carrillo State Beach in Malibu when I was a kid and seeing some location scouts come down to the water and start talking about how "he" would land "here" and climb up on the rocks "over there". I didn't know what show they were talking about but it wasn't too many months later that "The Challenge" was aired on ABC and I found out. I had totally forgotten about that until you mentioned that film.
ABC Movie of the Week had a large number of good films, I always looked forward to their next offering.
