I am not a fan of the sticky, and it has to go. Maybe hank will read the thread and put it back to normal. To much scrolling to get to what you want.

Agreed. All manufacturers would want to be stickied, and the first 2 pages would be all stickies.

The stickies are sponsors of HobbyTalk... I didn't see a T2C thread to sticky.... point it out to me and I'll sticky it.

Why the stickies? We have a "product support" forum here so racers can get feedback on different products. I never "required" a manufacturer to be a sponsor/advertiser/supporter as I felt it served our members more then anything else. I also hoped that these manufacturers would see the value in these forums, the value in direct contact with customers and the value in the exposure and become at the very least a HobbyTalk supporter and maybe even a sponsor/advertiser.

So many come on HobbyTalk and promote their products and tell you to spend $100s on it while they can't even put up $20 a year (much less the $25 per month for a sponsorship) to help HobbyTalk keep improving. and supporting the racers. A couple of things have brought this to a head.

One was that the free advertising many were doing was devaluating the Sponsorship position with some Sponsors questioning why spend the money to Sponsor/Advertise when they could do it for free like many are.

Second is my yearly costs are approaching 5 figures this year. I stepped up advertising and promotion of HobbyTalk to bring in new members and help get more exposure for our Sponsors/Advertisers. I would expect my efforts would make a difference. Has it? It has and it hasn't, HobbyTalk traffic is up over 20% over this same time last year but fewer and fewer "manufacturers" are Sponsors/Advertisers or even a just a $20/year supporter.

So the stickies are a reward for those companies that have stepped up and are HobbyTalk Supporters/Advertisers. Want to get rid of the stickies? Maybe look to some of the companies that are using HobbyTalk for free advertising.

Let's see, Novak comes on HobbyTalk and sells products by posting links to their shopping cart. Novak is a multimillion $ company with HobbyTalk members spending 10s of thousands of $ for Novak's product, yet Novak can not even spend $250 per year (less then the cost of a single brushless motor/ESC) to be a HobbyTalk Sponsor/Advertiser? That makes sense to me :freak:

I think everyone that has a thread under Product support should be a HobbyTalk Sponsor/Advertiser .

I directed Novak's marketing department to contact Hobby Talk last year in order to get info on banner advertising. I especially listed HT in my list of forums to contact. There were other forums that I specifically declined to put on my list.

I did not follow up to see if the information that we requested was forthcoming from forum owners, but I will check with the dept to see the response. Since I participate in these advertising decisions, I can tell you that no proposal from HT has ever been brought to my attention.

I also post here regularly and have not been PMed, that I recall, that companies, such as Novak, are required to contribute to the finances here. I surely agree that companies should be expected to step up to the plate. However, I would have appreciated a personal request or proposal directed to me.

Novak has always been in the forefront of working with Oval racers and organizations to support and further the participation in this segment of the hobby. I do not understand just how Novak was expected to know what you require, but I will certainly consider whatever sponsorship information that you suggest.

NovakTwo.....take the initiative. :) Check this link (http://www.hobbytalk.com/bbs1/sendmessage.php). It's Hanks contact Us link at the bottom of the page and I'm sure he'll send you all the information to get Novak set up as an advertiser.

This not directed at NovakTwo but he did bring up some good points. Maybe I should be more aggressive in my "marketing". The vast majority of popular forums do not allow any type of manufacturer self promotion without some type of payment.

I took a different route and thought process. I wanted a place for racers to get information and help with products they run. My thoughts were that once manufacturers found HobbyTalk to be a good place to keep in contact with their customers that they would just naturally want to help out the place that helps them promote their products. Should I have to beat them on the head get them to do this?

Maybe I took too much for granted. I guess I could close all of the Product Support threads for those that aren't Sponsors/Supporters so we could be like everyone else. But then were would that leave all of the racers looking factory support on products they own? First and foremost HobbyTalk is for the racer, always has and always will be. I'll do what I feel is best for the racer.... and at this time it is to have an open Product Support forum and keep on hoping that manufacturers see the value in that.

Hank,

There's a couple MFG threads (who are H/T sponsors) who don't have the sticky yet.

I'm Sure the McAllister thread would like to have a sticky!! ;)
