Hey Brock, I have the smc lipo hard case reciever pack in stock. Just got them Friday. I also have a hard case to fix the TP pack and Losi pack. The case is 9.00. The SMC pack is 24.95. Let me know if I can help you.

Wait... now we have to run cases on receiver packs?

What else can we change before the season starts...

Well a cookie for you...

My point being some people didn't know they made them much less that they were a requirement anywhere...

before spouting off about it chill out!!!

it is a rule at the oval masters and if you dont have 1 and you are running a lipo rec. pack it will cost you $9
you dont need to be a smart a$$ all of the time:rolleyes:

Dunno the specific rule at Greeneville, but at the Mason-Dixon race we had to have the receiver pack covered on 5 sides so we just made a "box" out of lexan...

After seeing ozzys receiver pack go up at maximis I can see why we should have these.

Yeah, at Easley, if the rec. pack is a lipo, it needs to be enclosed in a case of some type.

Casper, It is a Greeneville rule not a TOUR rule. It has been in affect here over a year and on the Ovalmasters rule sheet since posted. It is about protecting the carpet and the car for a hard hit. It seems that most people like to run it on the left side for extra weight. We were able to find a source for the boxes for TP and the Losi packs. It has been know that SMC was making a hard pack for about 9 months but they just got in country last week. Sorry it upset you.

08-30-2009, 11:26 AM
LOL..

It didn't upset me, I was asking.. I had planned on coming down there for that race and in the past 2 days I've dropped $2100 loading up for this season only to have 1 series and two different tracks say I need to buy more to be legal for one reason or another

I know what you mean, is can be fustrating at time. I have been ask what mah is and weight of the SMC pack. 450 mah 20 c cell. I forgot to weight it today, but i guess 1.5 oz. I will get exact weight tommorrow and post.

Allan, does the SMC pack have a switch? Do you still need to install a regulator?

you started with a smart remark instead of letting the question be answered and it wouldve all worked itself out.

this thread was started by a question because he would like to go to the oval masters he got his answer. most tracks you dont need them and i would bet that if you are not going to the oval masters you wont need it.

you sure do like to make friends on here

I thought all lipo battery packs must be in a protective case! That would include the RX pack. This protects the packs from damage that may end in a Fire!!!!!! If thats not in the TOUR rule package, it might need to be looked at!

I have been using soft pack RX packs since I had several laying around from my airplane days. Personally I have never seen a hard case small lipo. all the LHS's carry is soft packs. no need for a hard pack in an airplane.

Will be going to boosters so I dont have to deal with this rule.

SMC weight 1.1 oz 1.5" L x 1" W x 3/4" H

TP case weight .4oz 1.97"L x 1.38" W x .79" H

Losi case weight .4oz 1.97"L x 1.38"W x .59" H

These hard cases are made out of very hard plastic with cap that is attached by screws. You will have to cut a slot in the side to allow your wire to pass thru.

Larry: the pack does have a built in switch in the case. I ask Danny about the regualtor, his reply follows:

"As far as the regulator goes that question should be answered by the receiver and servo manufacturer. I know many guys don't use a regulator and all is fine but the customer should ask the manufacturer."

Larry I hope this helps

Larry-

The regulator just brings the voltage from 7.4 volts down to 6. This is the highest rating for most servos and RX. I don't think your really "need" it, but I would guess it is highly recommended.

I have one pack I run a regulator on, the other is simply a few diodes to drop the voltage. Each diode in line is a .7V drop, so 2 is 1.4, 3 is 2.1, just like the old days before BEC and ESC's. Both seemed to work fine with my 3100 RX and 9650 servo.

Same for the Thunder Power 900 mill amp reciever pack and the weight is needed on most cars ... 25.000 and its a lipo ....If running 7.5 TOUR or full blown mod you will need that kind of Millamp

What are the specs on the diode your using?

slotracer577

I had some huge power diodes laying around so I used those, but any diode with more than 10 watts will work. Should be able to pick up at radio shack for a few $. Look in the parts drawers for rectifier diodes and use the ones that are about 1/8" in diameter. If you put them in the red (+) lead, the stripe goes toward the RX.

Note that they wont show a voltage drop until you apply a load.

Ive been running a 2 cell lipo receiver pack in my single cell 12th scale for a while now with no regulator. No problems at all. The Futaba receivers and servo's are fine with it. All the "factory" offroad guys run them in the buggy's with no regulators either.

Ran the 350mA TP w/ a Reedy regulator in 7.5 for three rounds without a charge (80mA used a round). Didn't have time to get it charged for the main so I swapped in a TQ booster without issue as well. From that, I'd say 900 is overkill.
