It seems to me that the majority of oval racers are opting for the receiver pack over the booster for 1 cell. Is this because there have been so many problems with boosters or is there a distinct performance advantage by using the receiver pack? The few times I have run 1 cell I did use a receiver pack however a booster seems so much simpler. If they dont burn up!

Anybody having luck with the Novak booster?

I run a receiver pack because I'm nervous to try a booster again after seeing my car catch on fire at Winterblast!

Please do not conflate "boosters" with Novak's SmartBoost module. I have not heard of any damaging episodes from using our SB.

If there are any issues, contact tech@teamnovak.com

Have not heard of anyone having problems with the Novak modules either, and we've sold enough of them.

A booster is not as efficiant as a receiver pack. You are talking a very little amount though... the amount of voltage to run the servo and receiver over 4 min. For 13.5 or 10.5 it probably doesn't matter. For 7.5 and Mod I am sure you will need all the power you can get out of the 1C battery

No issues here with the Novak booster. I have 2 newbies thrashing and running into stuff with them. By the way the Novak tape helped stick to the shrink wrap much better than servo tape.

Has anybody had any experience with using 1 cell with the Speed Passion GT2.0? Is there anything(dangerous) I should know about before attempting to run this setup? I plan on using the TQ Cells voltage booster.

Used a Novak booster tonight with amy Tekin RS in my 13.5 car worked great it was nice not having to charge up and extra lipo pack.Booster was 38 bucks a hard case lipo RX pack is 25 and a Reedy regulator was 23 bucks so the money is close.Note I had to reset the Tekin to get it to work?

I changed over to an OHP booster after running a receiver pack for awhile. No issues here. Not having to screw with charging another battery makes it easier as well.

Just tried out a LV boost from Dimension engineering last night with my Tekin. Seems to work fine. www.dimensionengineering.com Not quite as plug and play as some of the others, but another option.

Do you have to run a booster, or receiver pack?
Can you run the 1 cell lipo without a booster, or receiver pack?
I am wanting to run the COT class, just want to see if you have to
run one of them, or can you get by without them.

Thanks

depends on your speed control. I have seen the novaks run without, but the tekins need a booster or RX pack.

Whats this about a rx pack with a switch built in? I looked on smc's website, tower, and horizon and could not find it. Im interested even though i just bought a flightpower 350mah pack and a great planes BEC for it.

Its not too hard to just wire a switch inline with a pack. If you are lazy like me i ran a charge lead to the other side so i don't even have to unplug the pack from the RX to charge it.

I know it isnt hard, i just thought the idea of a switch built into the pack was cool. I ended up finding in on lefthander to look at. Looks good.

On a side note, why would an lrp tc speedo not have full power. I ran last weekend at my normal track with a lipo rx pack plugged straight into the rx. Ran some 2.8's into 2.9's. I setup up a different rx pack and put a regulator inline and now, the car has no speed or punch?!?!? I dont understand it. Plug the rx pack back straight into the rx and it has the speed again. Did plugging a batt with 8.4 volts straight into the rx cause something in the speedo to fry that now its not getting full voltage?

You should have a regulator too to bring the voltage down to a safe level for the electronics.

I bought the great planes 3amp BEC. Made for 2-6s and brings the voltage down to 5 or 6 volts.

You ever notice when you have a reciver pack pluged in to the lrp and the batt disconected you can hit the triger and the wheels will move a bit.Makes you go hummm

Reciver pack is the only way to go for me I do not want anything draining the battery other than the motor.

I wound up buying a smart boost today. Figured since the cost was going to be ablout the same it was worth not having to charge another battery.

Thanks for the help guys, this is what makes this site great:thumbsup:

Car is a 13.5 with a Havoc speed control and novak booster. Hooked everything up, turned off the low voltage on the esc. Turned on the booster switch but left the esc switch off. Had steering with no power to the motor. Turned onthe esc switch too and the motor would run. Hold the throttle down and the motor will rev up and down, up and down, then stops and the esc flashed the low voltage code. With the switch off on the esc I have no motor power. What did I do wrong?

Thanks,

also been running novak smart booster in 13.5, 10.5 and 7.5, no problems works great even in 7.5! I'll never go back to a receiver pack, unless someone can show me a big proformance gain...

I have been running a Lipo reciever pack without a regulator, 9650 servo, and FASST reciever. It has worked well but I would like to use a booster the problem is that the FASST system requires 6 + volts. What booster will work with the fasst system?

I charge it usually after every 3 runs. It will go more than that, but I just got in the habit of doing it that way to make sure I always do it.

Best I can tell, a 4-minute run for me is using about 60MaH on average.

You guys notice any racers that have to charge their receiver packs every run... and there almost as big as the 1 cell... hhmmmmmm???? Maybe some real strange things going on with this whole receiver pack deal. I think I'm going to use one of my old 2 cell packs as a receiver pack. LOL!!!!

Bill, last weekend I was using a 200 ma reciver pack. The first 3runs I made; it was ok. When I recharged it it took 90 ma. Not sure why but, after that I could not get more than 2 runs with out getting a low voltage red light on my regulater.
I have gotten me a novak booster and a SMC 450 ma receiver pack to try next week.
