View Full Version : Kyosho Release #38 British Sports Cars
Kotetsu 08-24-2009, 07:45 PM Hi Everyone,
Here are the official pictures from Kyosho's release #38, the British Sports Cars. They've strike gold again with this new release. The car selection are excellent, and each one is loaded with fine details. I love how they created a new mold for each of the McLaren F1 and just didn't get lazy and simply slap on a rear wing and mark it as the GTR version. The race cars are awesome too... probably available for the first time in 1/64 scale. I'm sure we'll see some interesting eBay wars on these cars.
Just like the last few releases there will be a secret/chase car. I have no idea what it is though. Most likely a color variant of a particular car, but I'd love to see that they've pulled some extra effort and maybe created a McLaren F1 GTR with racing livery..... yeah...
Enjoy the pictures and start saving money.

69Stang 08-24-2009, 08:17 PM OK, they finally did it....a set of cars that I will buy regardless!!!
With every release, I say haw I would like to have several of those....but now I am saying I WILL have several of those! All the Jaguar XJR9's and the A/M DBR9's.
In a word....WWWWWWHHHHOOOOOHHHHHOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
Uh...hold on....sorry....that was a bit to redneck for refering to a sports car hu? But you get the idea.
kneedeep56 08-24-2009, 09:56 PM Oh my - Thanks for posting this
DBR9
XJR9

troopeur 08-25-2009, 02:03 AM Amazing set , I reserved 22 cars in this set and I saw 1 or 2 custom ;)
troopeur 08-25-2009, 02:15 AM I know I dream : Chase car Mclaren GTR racing "Gulf design"
I'm definitely buying a set, thanks Josh.
O/T: BTW, I was able to get a set of the Circuit Wolf through the help of a friend. I just tracked it and it's already outbound from US customs in Sanfo. Will probably get it by Wednesday.
Carlo
kneedeep56 08-25-2009, 08:48 AM Congrats Carlo - can't wait to see them.

stretchdog 08-25-2009, 10:05 AM I need an entire set of these. These are just Awesome!!! I need to get a Kyosho Connection!!! If anyone has one Please PM me!!!
hookie 08-25-2009, 02:50 PM Really good job from kyosho guys this time, but if you notice the Aston Martin DBS will be released too by Minichamps (in December), Personally I prefer to purchase the minichamps DBS instead of kyosho one, in fact quality is better and I canīt afford to repeat same model from another brand.
Kotetsu 08-25-2009, 03:53 PM Both Kyosho and Minichamps are expensive and it would be hard to justify buying duplicates. But both are so nice and I would hate to give one up. I'll probably be getting the different colors or display them in opposite directions to view both the front and rear of the cars.
Kotetsu 08-25-2009, 08:52 PM 8/25/09 Update: The pre-order of unopened box set (with 20 randomly packed cars) is already sold out at Tokimeki Mall, the only source where you can purchase the Kyosho Minicars before they hit the retail/convenient stores in Japan.

Not sure how many sets were available, but to sell out in only 2 or 3 days is pretty amazing.... This clearly shows the popularity of this set of British cars. One can only imagine what'll happen on eBay from here on. Thumbs up for those who already secured their purchases... and good luck to those who will be collecting them on eBay.

GLH Turbo 08-26-2009, 04:47 PM Oh man... I want those McLaren F1's.
dragonhead00 08-28-2009, 09:29 PM I just love the DB5s. One's almost the color of 007's car.
Great set, but it is so weird seeing the XJR9 without the Silk Cut logo. Also not sure about the Tuscans selling that well. Would have been great to see Jaguar XK180 in its place, and perhaps a Morgan.
Kotetsu 08-29-2009, 12:54 AM Kyosho have not placed any tobacco sponsors on any of their mini-cars even though I'd like to see them too. But there are tons of after-market decals to fullfill people's need to customize their racers. Here's an example from a Japanese seller:

We can always hope for another British car release in the future. But with the current release, particularly with the McLaren F1s, Kyosho have just about round up the modern super cars. Of course I'd love to see some super exotics like the Konningsegg or the Zonda.... but then again I won't mind seeing more Mercedes, BMW, or Porsche. They really need to make more Porsche race cars like the 917, the 962... and so on.

Speaking of British supercars, let's also hope for Aston Martin One-77 :)
troopeur 08-29-2009, 01:39 AM about British don't forget the classic Mini cooper S ;)
troopeur 08-31-2009, 10:23 AM I ordered complet collection of 30 maybe one of each car to sell next month ( normaly I kept 2 different color of each car)
69Stang 09-06-2009, 02:14 PM MAN, the bids for the first wave showing up on Ebay is amazing! I will have to wait awhile or find them from a dealer somewhere! I could eat up my whole budget in a hurry!
Kotetsu 09-06-2009, 02:56 PM Well... it is eBay after all. There will always be those desperate enough to jump in and fuel the bidding wars.
troopeur 09-07-2009, 11:54 PM YEAH!
My complet collection is in the mail..receive it in 7-10 days
troopeur 09-08-2009, 10:56 AM Secret car is a Dark Blue Mclaren F1

Kotetsu 09-08-2009, 02:45 PM Thank you for the info troopeur... now the hunt begins.... : )
troopeur 09-10-2009, 07:28 PM I found mine for 40$
troopeur 09-15-2009, 10:34 AM I received my set today only one word amazing. the quality , the details and the paint is perfect on 28 cars.
I'm desapointed by the Mclaren F1 GTR orange and Yellow ,the paint is not very well applied , car look like plastic
troopeur 09-18-2009, 11:57 AM few pics of the racing DBR9 (three version exist)

hdaiptek 09-18-2009, 05:59 PM I received mine today and they are not well made. Paint were not applied well, assembly is pretty bad. A lot of the side view mirrors fell. My Aston Martin DBR9 #009 even has a right hand side tail light put in place of the left hand side, which looked ridiculous.
troopeur 09-18-2009, 11:43 PM I just saw I miss mirror on yelow/green DBR9 , i'll try to fix trouble.
but the paint and other details are correct on all other 29 cars in the set
I agree, I think some of the cars did not pass through quality control, but generally most of them were ok.
hdaiptek 09-19-2009, 02:22 AM You guys are lucky, I must have gotten a bad lot. I carefully double checked everything and found that 9 of my cars have defects. Contacting ebay seller for a possible exchange.

Please don't blame ebay sellers, they place orders in Japan and get junks from Japanese mall. Read this blog, http://kyoshocmsrock.blogspot.com/2009/09/kyosho-british-car-2-series-fall-off.html, I can taste the disappointment of the blog owner in my mouth.
That's interesting.
He mentioned the 2 cars that I received with some degree of damage as well.
My silver Mclaren GTR's axles were bent. The DBR spoilers were detached.

How can you tell the axles were bent, did u remove the car from the base?
I don't know if I should bid the cars in ebay, not sure what I will get from sellers. I understand their position but I wish to save myself agony. Please help, fellow members.
Oops. Sorry, my bad. The axles are not bent but the wheels were not properly attached.
I did remove the rivets to straighten them out and it improved a little bit.
I guess the sellers have from ebay have no control as well because they only open the boxes to identify the contents without really inspecting each one they sell.
hdaiptek 09-20-2009, 03:05 AM Here's my situation: my seller said to send my DBR9 back to him, he send it to his dealer to replace the item and send it back to me. The seller would reimburse my shipping cost to my paypal account AFTER he got reimbursed by dealer. Is this safe? Should I go thru with it or just leave it? Any advice would help. Thanks
kneedeep56 09-20-2009, 04:44 AM I'm worried about the 4 cars I have coming from an eBay seller.
Don't know if there's much I can do if they arrive in bad shape.
I understand the sellers point of view, BUT...
they are the ones making the profits off the buyers
all too often the buck stops at the buyers doorstep :(

If they come in bad shape, you should write to ebay seller to ask for replacements or full refund. They should check the items first before selling them to customers.
hdaiptek 09-20-2009, 05:27 AM It might not have been sellers' fault entirely, but sellers really should put in a LITTLE extra effort to make sure they are not sending defective cars to buyers since they are making quite good profits off of us buyers.
hookie 09-20-2009, 05:39 AM My contact in Japan tells me that the mistakes in this series are common.
Aproximately 50% of the final products are damage from the manufacturer, :(:(:(kyosho must invest in quality control in their products
troopeur 09-20-2009, 08:23 AM interesting to read
http://kyoshocmsrock.blogspot.com/2009/09/reveal-reason-of-low-quality-of-british.html
slk99 09-20-2009, 09:32 AM The poor quality of 1/64 Kyosho models are expected to stay for a long time....Since, they are new factories... workers never make model cars before the factory accepted this British 2 set order....:(
They probably fired the QC people during cost cutting resulting in poor quality models.
I think it's safe to send your cars back to have them replaced.

This is sad news, what happened to the other factories?
slk99 09-20-2009, 09:52 AM This is sad news, what happened to the other factories?
The other factories did not get the order...
Kyosho cut cost by 50%.... so you can expect the quality drop...
kneedeep56 09-20-2009, 10:22 AM Thank you for all responses.
I will wait and see how mine show up.
troopeur 09-20-2009, 11:24 AM I think the probleme will be fixe with the next collection( I hope) , kyosho don't wan loose his excellent reputation .
Lego has same problem when they opened new factory in mexico in 2007
hdaiptek 09-20-2009, 12:25 PM I guess from now on I'll not be as hard for Kyoshos anymore. At least not until they raise the quality back up. I'll be looking into other brands just in case. i heard Minichamps are excellent, CM is not bad, autoart is great and hopefully Spark/Redline would join the 1/64 market (they make perfect 1/87 with excellent details). All I'm saying is that we should have more choices since we are paying quite a lot of money for these 1/64 scale cars.
troopeur 09-21-2009, 12:54 AM Yeah minichamp made very nice die cast.
Cm's have quality control probleme sometime 10-15% of my CM's Rally car have default
but I fixe myself some of them
hdaiptek 09-21-2009, 01:06 AM All the other ones are great alternatives, but my first choice is still Kyosho. They just need to fix that annoying QC problem so we won't get disappointed again. By the way, is anybody collecting 1/87 scale die cast cars?
Kotetsu 09-21-2009, 01:48 AM The quality problem have been a sore subject in several Japanese blogs too. But from what I heard before in Japan Kyosho can exchange the merchandise if you ship it back to their customer service. Too bad this doesn't apply for us international collectors. Kyosho is still my #1 choice simply because of their range of subjects, attention to details, and quality. Hopefully they'll continue to live up to their name.
