View Full Version : 13.5 Brushless Motors
mGraves 08-23-2009, 05:52 PM Who is making the best 13.5 motors around?? I've heard the Trinity motors weren't to hot. I'm running a tekin now, but am wondering if maybe a Novak is a better motor??? I know every motor is different....and inductance #'s and rotor #'s can be good or bad on any motor. On average....what is the baddest 13.5 motor out there??
GearboxGraphics 08-23-2009, 07:47 PM You can make them all run fast with the right setup. The Duo2 looks pretty promising and I imagine the ballistic specs are going to be just as reliable as the SS motors have been.

mGraves 08-23-2009, 10:10 PM Do the ballistic motors have adjustable timing or are they set...more of a spec motor??
Andy Koback 08-23-2009, 10:22 PM They are adjustable but are considered a Spec Motor.
mGraves 08-23-2009, 10:24 PM cool..thanks.
Bob~H 08-23-2009, 10:26 PM Hey Matt, I haven't tried the Orion yet but they seem to be crazy fast for Gerry Pullum. He's running a 17.5 Orion at the Velo and has the best time so far this year with it. He was running a 13.5 Orion at the Barn and was very quick with it there as well.
mGraves 08-23-2009, 11:14 PM Thanks Bob...I still have your motor. I will get it done and back to you soon. You may have some COT guys begging to buy it at the Nats!! LOL
NovakTwo 08-24-2009, 09:50 AM I would suggest the Ballistics for their complete rebuildability---no other company can match either the design or the availability of service items and repair parts that we make sure are always on line. (http://www.shopatron.com/index/135.0.56.56692.0.0.0)
I posted a tech update on the Ballistic timing the other dsy:

Because all Spec motors are ROAR approved to be built to that tight spec, there is actually very little variation allowed in the actual components and dimensions. The goal is to keep performance as close as possible for spec racing.

I've had goodluck with Novak other than baking one at the velodrome. Are the ballistic motors going to have tighter tollerences on rotor #'s. It seems that it's still buy one till you find a good one. I would like to see Novak tighten things up and put out a truely even spec motor.
katf1sh 08-24-2009, 10:21 PM novak two is right..if you buy a novak, chances are you will need to rebuild it in a few weeks!
DUO2

What's there to rebuild...2 bearings???

Not much, unless you have a knack for burning (smoking) your motors. But, we offer wound stators, rotors, sensor harnesses and boards (http://www.shopatron.com/index/135.0.56.56692.0.0.0)---basically all the motor parts as service parts, but the can.

Dude, take your NOVAK Hatin' EPIC Bandwagon someplace ELSE!
Tourque565656 08-26-2009, 12:54 PM Duo 2 is the way to go!! Fast Fast Fast!
NovakTwo 08-26-2009, 01:43 PM Duo 2 is the way to go!! Fast Fast Fast!
It is faster than our Ballistics?
bnc_customs 08-26-2009, 02:17 PM 13.5 is like a 19 turn?
Andy Koback 08-26-2009, 03:03 PM 27 turn!!!
bnc_customs 08-26-2009, 05:51 PM So a 10.5 would be the same as a 19t?
swtour 08-26-2009, 07:00 PM bnc
the only honest TRUTHFUL answer is - THERE is NO equal between any BRUSHED and BRUSHLESS motor combos.
Brushless MOTORS have a much stronger power band, and more torque...so there is virtually NO way to size any of them up as equals.
dadandsonrcnuts 08-27-2009, 10:37 AM So a 10.5 would be the same as a 19t?
with what battery???
slotracer577 08-27-2009, 11:28 AM From what I have seen a 27T ~17.5 on the same battery and a 19T~13.5 on the same battery. If you go from a 4cell to a 1 Cell lipo, drop one motor size to be roughly equal, so a 19T 4cell ~ 13.5 4 cell ~ 10.5 1 cell ~ 21.5 2 S lipo. The old stock 27T 4 cell ~ 17.5 4 cell ~ 13.5 1 cell lipo. Also I think the 17.5 2S is ~ 7.5 1 cell. Now as people have pointed out they are not exactly equal.

These 2 are very close with 4 cell.
katf1sh 08-27-2009, 01:42 PM Dude, take your NOVAK Hatin' EPIC Bandwagon someplace ELSE!
why? look joe this isn't russia around here...you may not like choice or enoy different food...BUT I DO!!!!
my biased oppinion is duo 2 by epic!
i have owned 10 or so novak motors and not one ran like the next one..
rotors are all over the place in numbers
and let's not talk inductance numbers....
and they posted inductance numbers on there own web site..buy a new novak and according to there own posted numbers they weren't legal..it got so bad they had to remove the onfo on there own web site.....
i myself bought a NIP 10.5 that was mis labled from the factory it was closer to a 7.5 on the dyno track and meter...but hey they tell us they test every motor that leaves the shop??? how does this occur time and time again?
i'm not asking them to admit they have issues..lord knows i have tried...just fix there issues....
maybe just maybe the new ballistic series motors will be way more consistant...i realy honestly hope they are......i do like what novak is doing for the novice racer and keeping prices lower...very cool....
it's a dark lil secret that if you land a good motor it will run like the wind...very cool if you get lucky and get one..not so cool if you don't...
if the ballistic series cleans up the mess things will calm down...until the birds lol

katf1sh 08-27-2009, 09:54 PM undermy pc chair...wanna reach for it?
bnc_customs 08-30-2009, 06:22 PM undermy pc chair...wanna reach for it?
Now thats funny  lol
tats31 08-30-2009, 08:25 PM something tells me that under kats pc chair is not somewhere you want to go. that would be for a trained military biohazard team.
