View Full Version : 2009-10 Mt. Pleasant Carpet Oval!!
I have just talked to Ray and he has come up with a great idea. Put 6 balls in a bucket with 1 - 6 on them. Draw one out before the race starts and tech that car only. I also think is a GREAT idea. Ray is so smart!
Yup, I think that is a good idea. If I didn't know better, I think it was your idea to put our balls into a bucket. :freak: Rather than hurt the honest racers, lets just catch the cheaters. Bust 'em once, DQ'd for the day. Bust 'em a second time and feel a 3-track ban for a month or two. Oh yeah, once you're caught you're on the mandatory tech list.
OvalTrucker 04-20-2010, 02:57 PM Really Ray? 6 balls in a bucket? That's old technology!:) I'm sure Jeremy can google-up some random number generator to accomplish the same thing in a much more up-to-date fashion.:)
Rob, I don't feel banning anyone is going to help much. I'd rather publicly humiliate them... that's the way I roll.:) Mandatory tech would be a given though.
If we keep using the Tekins in SST, everyone will have to deal with full tech immediately before each race. I know, it's a pain in the butt to take the Tekin connector out of your RX when you have the body attached, but it's also not the fault of the honest racers that it has come to this.
I can't be responsible for what does or does not happen at the other tracks.
Maybe the guys that believe in keeping the playing field fair and level can step up and help the race directors at the other tracks. Just a thought.

I'm nominating Duke for our track.

We could just use dice and roll a number. Then we can get a side of craps going in the off-time.
toytech 04-20-2010, 03:43 PM Brian,
Did you not hear?????? Several of the "High End" guys (Dave being one of the many) tallent wise that is, will be running SST next year!!!! Yeah....I'm excited........................................NOT !!!!
I will be running 13.5 only if this happens as I will not have my arse handed to me in two classes.......thrash all day and get whooped in two classes....I am smarter than that!!!
I have a very fast SST for sale if anyone is interested. PM me if interested.
it's no different than running with Andrew! to soar with eagles you must first fly with them  It will only make you better.
ps Duke that truck aint so fast
OvalTrucker 04-20-2010, 03:44 PM Ouch!

We could wire up a second connector to plug into the computer so you wouldn't have to keep unplugging it from the receiver, would that work?
toytech 04-20-2010, 03:49 PM Ouch!
well I was just stating the truth
Promatchracer 04-20-2010, 03:51 PM Why would anybody not want to try and race the fast guys. I did had that thinking I would never leave the UP and just stay up here and win all the time until all the slower ppl left because they can't compete I guess that is what some want to do down state.
Besides last race I went a lot faster and got better as the season went on I went from sucking really bad to being in the A (except) last race I still ended up 6th in points for the season and That is because I wanted to race with the BigBoys and if ppl don't want to race with the Big Boys maybe they should play Jacks or Hop Scotch as there new Hobby
As for Tech it will be fully enforced at The Spring Fling and yes this will make the rounds a little longer but with Help it shouldn't be that big of an issue
And if anybody is caught Cheating after Big Rob and Scott get done with them they will be put on Display so everybody can see what Dishonor looks like
OK now I have to go to work
toytech 04-20-2010, 03:54 PM Who's this Ray Muuuuuussssssser guy thats looking
Roadsplat 04-20-2010, 04:04 PM We could wire up a second connector to plug into the computer so you wouldn't have to keep unplugging it from the receiver, would that work?
NO...that question was brought up on the tekin thread a while back and they said it would not work.
OvalTrucker 04-20-2010, 04:21 PM Adding a connector to the Tekin while plugged into the RX screws with the way the Hotwire works. I think that's what was said.
We'll just have to deal with it.
RayMusser 04-20-2010, 05:18 PM Who?...........................

To avoid having to unplug the ESC from the receiver (by yanking on the wires), I added something like this:
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXVSR4&P=7
It allows you to put the ESC connector wherever it's convenient on the chassis.

kevinm 04-20-2010, 08:00 PM Here's a simple solution to the ESC problem - change to a 5.5 motor. Then nobody will be trying to make their car faster. :jest:
On second thought, that STILL won't work. You'll all be changing to whatever brand ESC comes up with traction control...
Toytech2003 04-20-2010, 08:07 PM Here is my 2 cents i love the sst class i will run it with what rules are given i dont think banning the tekin is fair i would be royaly pizzed off if i bought a speedo and then it got banned i think maybe allowing the momba and tekin with 203 would be fair like ray said the momba brand new 110$ as time progresses so do we look at how far spec pan has come from 4 cell and brushed motors we have to roll with the technology:wave:
Racknor 04-21-2010, 05:37 AM To avoid having to unplug the ESC from the receiver (by yanking on the wires), I added something like this:

To much weigh Kevin. No just kidding. Thats a good idea.
As far as it taking longer that should not be the case. At BRL races or any race you need to be in tech the race before and done by your race. But if Casey goes by that he will never be able to race. Cannot wait to see our old buddy Casey!

Momba and 13.5 and truck in my small opinion will be TO FAST.
hobbyten 04-21-2010, 06:24 AM Momba and 13.5 and truck in my small opinion will be TO FAST. that's right it would be to fast and so would 203. leave it the way it is and tech them. it's only one class not everybody. you could even wait till after the heat was over and tech the fast cars by heat. if someone sets a new tq or gets a time that would put them in the A they go straight to tech and someone can check it while they marshall.
Duke Bradshaw 04-21-2010, 06:35 AM it's no different than running with Andrew! to soar with eagles you must first fly with them  It will only make you better.
ps Duke that truck aint so fast
That trucked kicked your butt many times (I believed you returned the favor many times as well) but we will not know going forward as I will not be running truck against the high end guys, only 13.5.
OvalTrucker 04-21-2010, 08:02 AM I've received alot of messages strongly in favor of keeping the Tekin and teching everyone before each race.
This would keep things the same and I wouldn't have to feel like I was eating my early announcement of not changing any rules.
I'm not sure how to put this politely, so I won't try too hard - many of the respondents eluded to something along the lines of not wanting Rob and Kaylee in any sort of 'open speedo' class. They referenced the number of buggy parts they go through at any given MP race and feared that thier own parts bill could increase significantly based on that fact. I found myself with no real arguement against thier position.
Thanks to Ray, Keith, Greg, Brian, Jeremy, Mark, Sparky, Jon, Dave and the rest of the 'open speedo' racers for their input.
P.S. Ray, I got the message the first time. You didn't have to have the airplane fly over my house with the banner.:)
Duke, I'm sorry that you are quitting the class. But here are some of the things I considered when it comes to lifting the 'top 6' ban.
The top 6 guys travel to all three tracks consistently.
Most of them have only ran 1 class all year. So, allowing them to run SST gives them another class to run AND [here's the biggie] creates a little more revenue for the tracks.
They have enjoyed watching the SST class all year. That alone has created a certain level of entertainment for everyone.
Some of them have bugged me to run the class many times all year after saying last October that it "wasn't their cup of tea".
I'm told probably only 3 or 4 of them are going to run the class anyway - Racknor, Deano, Ciecek and Zipp. They don't scare me!:) I've raced 'em for years!
Please reconsider and I'll put you on the super secret "Top SST Setup of the Week" newsletter mailing list.

Awww, now we had 1 month where we didn't break anything...that's gotta count for something! ;) Yes, I know the buggies go through parts - but that I live with for the sheer fun of driving with my girls. Kaylee in an open pancar class - well, I do hate to think of everybody's bill each month (including my own). I tried a GTB in the Dart, and for her it was a death sentence for the poor GTB.
Now, who is it that thinks my car would be causing a scrap pile in a 13.5 open class??? I'm not the fool, I would not do 10.5 yet. But the alternative would be to take the "racing" out of "having fun racing"...
Now it looks like the Tekin is going to remain legal. So I'm going to go outside and join Keith in the lawnchairs and watch Ray fly his airplane over Scott's house...
If we made a handicap for the tekin and mamba, it would eliminate all the teching.
If you run a tekin or mamba, or any of the "fast" esc's, then you have to run a 17.5 motor. I think that would even it out. No connecting to computers or whatever.
OvalTrucker 04-21-2010, 08:54 AM Dave, put your spoon down and walk away.:)
I'm not stirring, I think it could work.
I don't know for sure what the speeds would work out as.
Racknor should try it in his truck for Bay city Saturday. Then we'll know.
Brittamaster 04-21-2010, 09:04 AM How about a tech at the start of the day and Impound the Hook ups or Lap tops to stop any upgrading after sign up for the SST class.. that way we wouldn't have to tech every heat and If theres a big lap new TQ then tech that car just a thought..
jrsheets 04-21-2010, 09:27 AM How about a tech at the start of the day and Impound the Hook ups or Lap tops to stop any upgrading after sign up for the SST class.. that way we wouldn't have to tech every heat and If theres a big lap new TQ then tech that car just a thought..
That wouldn't work, as there are still adjustments that might want to be made. And what about the guys that race other classes?
jrsheets 04-21-2010, 09:41 AM I really like the random drawing of the balls idea.
But I also really need to throw this out there. Considering the amount of money already spent on an average SST car, is there really any savings in mandating only certain ESC's?
In reality are we trying to fix a racing budget problem that doesn't exist?
I could see if the SST's people were running were outdated chassis, with 4 year old original novak motors, and 75 or 27mhz radios, but look at the class people...
Most of the trucks are running spectrum radios, latest and greatest chassis, have the latest and greatest motors, etc.
There is nothing "Budget" about that class!
I really dont think allowing the mamba or tekin with any software revision in that class is going to loose any racers.
In my opinion, we are all wasting a lot of time, energy, oxygen, bits, bytes, and power trying to solve a problem that really doesn't exist, once you really think about it!
Just my $0.02..
OvalTrucker 04-21-2010, 09:47 AM If I have to draw balls before every race I'll need to bring a bunch of extra crap to the races.
1. Pencil
2. Paper
3. Mirror.
LOL! Sorry couldn't help it.
Roadsplat 04-21-2010, 10:23 AM Really Ray? 6 balls in a bucket? That's old technology!:) I'm sure Jeremy can google-up some random number generator to accomplish the same thing in a much more up-to-date fashion.:)
.............
Well I think that's because Keith wrote it and he's OLD. Had I written it I would have said ....Lets put 6 balls with LED flashing numbers, in a cage that is spun by a Novak Ballastic motor controlled by either the newest Mamba or Tekin ESC. Then whatever ball flys out of the cage from spinning so fast and hits Scott in the head, would be the one that would get teched. The key part of this is that is MUST hit you in the head. I suppose it could get time consuming if we have to keep reloading the cage until one makes proper contact, but I would be willing to take the extra time needed.
OvalTrucker 04-21-2010, 10:32 AM Thanks Ray!
During the development of your High-Tech number getter... I'll need you to hold my mirror.:)

the only thing that realy helps the budget is the tire rule, that is a big savings and it takes out the advantage of knowing which tires to use at any given time, I like the SST class the way it is but I think we can lift the ban on the top six at MP, I like racing with theese guys it makes you work more on setup, they have all taught me alot, thanks guys !!!!! And out of the top six the only one to beat Mel and I was Keith he TQD at MP with 1 lap more than Mel and I and he only got that lap buy a few more tenths than we did. this is the best class ever since I have been racing carpet oval!!!!!
