View Full Version : 2009-10 Mt. Pleasant Carpet Oval!! toytech 04-07-2010, 10:40 PM Willy is ready to rock and roll sat he has the 00 backup truck :woohoo: Willow 04-08-2010, 02:04 AM Yep I will be there in a borrowed truck. Hopefully I got the monkey off my back. lol After reading the last few pages I will put my opinion in too. Here goes, SPOON OUT. LOL I do not think any 13.5 "bonded" or not should be allowed in "spec" class. There should be enough batteries and motors trickling down now to get "spec" up with the times. LOL The only reason to run a 13.5 in "spec" is to be faster. Should the beginer class be turning laps faster than SST? I know some people will not be happy with this but some thing needs to be done. Kyle has quit oval because of this issue. He was running a LRP SSX TC profile 10, 40c Thunder power battery and 2 different 17.5's and was 3 to 4 laps off the pace his last race at MP. Obviously I can not set up a pan car and most of the blame is mine. I did not think a "spec" cars setup should be so critical but apparently it is. But what do you say to a 9 year old that comes up to you and says " all the other guys in my race are running 13.5's". He is done for this season, I am not going to push him into something he is not having fun in. I don't now at this point if I will be able to get him back in to it in the fall or not. He is not ready for SST, the racing is to close and he has allot to learn about on track manners. lol I am not typing this to complain. After seeing the last few pages I thought it is something that needs to be shared. toytech 04-08-2010, 07:31 AM I think we should all go racing and have some fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :woohoo: some rules need a tweek, it will all work out in the end! gjdean 04-08-2010, 07:42 AM Ohh I'm sorry, I forgot to call Keith and Greg a couple of whinny SOB's:) I think it's much more entertaining when there's some name calling...or at least when it's directed at Laurel and Hardy. I hate you Ray! toytech 04-08-2010, 07:48 AM now boys be good gjdean 04-08-2010, 08:00 AM Better watch out now Zippy, I guess all Racknor needed was a vacation. Rick Rad 04-08-2010, 08:55 AM Willie, I have used a 17.5 LIPO for the last 2month and I am just as fast. Duke won almost every heat and EVERY main with his 17.5 spec and AL won plenty with 17.5 lipo spec when I ran 13.5 bonded. SO if we all go to 17.5, you will still be in the same boat. My 5 cents. Oh Ya,I still have not used a McHappy McPappy chassis in spec,so maybe I will just to get even 2 more laps. Oh Ya,I still have not used a McHappy McPappy chassis in spec,so maybe I will just to get even 2 more laps. the only place that i run 17.5 and won was at gr where it is faster. with the tekin it might be faster at bc and mp. i was running a gtb with the 17.5. spec used to be one motor and one battery and it would be great to see it go back to that way. as far as the motor goes either a novak or the trinity duo 1 if it's still available. Willow 04-08-2010, 04:13 PM Willie, I have used a 17.5 LIPO for the last 2month and I am just as fast. I am fine with you being 10 laps faster if everyone runs the same wind of motor in that given class. Look I know I am not going to change anyones mind. I am trying to give you guys something to think about. I admit I do not have the answers. I hate seeing people quit racing. I know of 3 people that quit "SPEC" this year and are not racing oval any more. I bet there are more that are frustrated that have not chimed in on it. I know there is no such thing as "fair". ;) We however need the illusion of fair. Especially for the beginer class. What percentage of racing do you guys think is mental? If you do not think you have a chance, you have no chance. 13.5 is a faster motor than a 17.5. True or False? If all run 17.5 or all run 13.5 there is less of an issue.:) With everyone running the same wind of motor, it gives us the illusion of being fair. It makes it easier to tell someone to work on driving or there setup. Also I think this will get them to realize they need help quicker. Instead of sitting in the pits and thinking about quitting because they don't think it is "fair". OvalTrucker 04-08-2010, 04:50 PM Well, I wouldn't be the first person to admit that our Spec class is hardly "Spec". SST is the closest thing to spec racing around here and believe it or not, the 10.5 class is almost a spec class. Neither of those classes have 3 different combos being used. I can't help but mention that nobody running brushed equipment in the spec class is voicing any opinions I know there must be a couple guys still doing it the old fashioned way. Maybe they are just in it for the kicks.:) A level playing field is what made SST the biggest class in the state. And while it wasn't designed for beginners, it certainly has brought some new faces out of the woodwork. It sucks that people have quit because of the issue that they don't think they have the right equipment. Especially when people with the same equipment are doing well with it. Let's keep working on a solution guys. We have some good info to get started with. Willie, thanks for your post. Sorry that Kyle is so discouraged. At least tell him we are working on something for next season. Promatchracer 04-08-2010, 04:59 PM Spec should be 17.5 is lipo No 13.5 anything You should still have the brushed combo Spec motor and spec packs You should have enough to run them in 2 different groups for Qualifiers 13.5 should be gone in spec all together. Most pl that have that can get a 17.5 motor or already have one Heck I will do this if it helps I will take anybodies Working 13.5 motor on trade and sell them a New 17.5 Novak SS for $55 As far as the Speedo's go No advance timing ones GTB's Havok's older LRP's and No Tekins either Not worth the issue on them to see what setting it is For Batteries Should b just Like SST This is a beginner class or a class for some one to run a second class that doesn't want to do 10.5 If I didn't like 10.5 so much I would run Spec but I wont to try and be faster and compete with the Big Boys or Old boys however you want to look at it. my .03 kevinm 04-08-2010, 06:35 PM Spec should be 17.5 is lipo No 13.5 anything You should still have the brushed combo Spec motor and spec packs You should have enough to run them in 2 different groups for Qualifiers 13.5 should be gone in spec all together. The funny thing is that on the dyno, brushed 21T shows more horsepower than 17.5 BL, but on the track (in Legends anyway) they appear to be pretty equal when both use Spec packs. Then in Spec class it looks like 17.5/LiPo is faster than brushed 21T, maybe because the LiPo's higher capacity lets you gear it to the moon? If my data logger shows up tomorrow, I'd like to put it in some of the different flavors of Spec class cars to see if we can explain the performance differences. kevinm 04-08-2010, 06:47 PM ... 13.5 is a faster motor than a 17.5. True or False? The answer to this is actually a "maybe" because we're comparing a sintered rotor 17.5 with a bonded rotor 13.5. The much stronger sintered rotor makes a huge difference in motor performance. mc43 04-08-2010, 07:57 PM 13.5 at the cellar duke Dirty Dog 04-09-2010, 12:15 AM Hello everyone Bob Stone here...Just found this thread thanks to Duke Bradshaw...I see there is a lot of conversation about the spec class...First of all I would like to thank everyone who has helped me out on the carpet with both my spec and sst...You guys rock!!! I had a blast this past season with the exception of a few items which I will address here briefly...Let's see I will start with the spec class or should I say spec-open!!! I bought my car RTR with what I thought was the right equipment for the rules that were posted...Now I do however understand technology and it's advancements in our hobby, however it may be, when the rules were designed and made this item (MMP) was not available. So whoever thought it was cool to come out and put one in there spec, and smoke the rest of us by 2 to 3 laps not because your a better driver but because your car would catch even the best of driver. That was silly not gray...I don't think sneaking the new MMP in your car and trying to get an advantage was the right move...To me that is cherry picking...If your are running the same as the fast guys and your still getting beat, chance are your setup might be off or maybe you just need some more laps under your belt...Either way talk with the other drivers in your class...If there is one thing I have learned in my 1st year of racing is that everyone for the most part is willing to help you have FUN and be competitive... :) As far as the new rules go, I would only like to say that if this is a entry level class...KEEP IT THAT WAY. Don't tell a new guy that he has to do this, and that and O-bye the way if you want to be competitive, you need this super speedo and a computer to program it... As a newbie I would be lost with the whole computer program what....I feel that it would be way better to push a button a few times and I am off racing and with a few laps under the belt be able to see the leader instead of being blown away by them. Also with regards to the 13.5 4cell and the 17.5 1cell. I have personally run against both and find that yes the 13.5 4cell gets out of the gates faster but buy the time the race comes to an end you can catch the 13.5 4cell with the 17.5 1cell if you are mistake free...I lost only due to my inexperience...If this bothers someone I am sorry I speak only for myself in this aspect...Now on to the SST...The only thing I have to say about this class is can someone help me get past the bus driver and Duke without getting duked by 1 of them or both...... ;) Thanks again for everyone's help and I look forward to the 2010-2011 season...Hope to see you all out at Duke's for some dirt oval racing!!! OvalTrucker 04-09-2010, 08:25 AM Hey Bob! Thanks for your comments. I'm glad you've had fun this year. The best way to beat Mel is to go racing on a day he isn't there.:) I'm not sure how to beat Duke. You may have to bribe someone else in the race. As it turns out, that usually doesn't work out well for Deano in the 10.5 class. toytech 04-09-2010, 08:32 AM Hey Bob! Thanks for your comments. I'm glad you've had fun this year.
