My son wants me to buld a slot car track in our basement but I am unsure which scale to use. I have plenty of room but would like to keep the cost down. If anyone has an opinion please share your thoughs.

I say build the 1/32 track and then you can run all three! HO (using the converted brushes and guide), 1/43 and 1/32 can all run on the same track!

I have been running 1/43rd for about 7 years now, and I think it is a great scale. If I was to start over I would use 1/32nd track and run 1/43rd cars on it.

Whatever scale you decide on get yourself a good regulated, variable voltage (around 0-20vDC) power supply.

You could build a 1/32nd track & run less expensive cars as a starting point, depending on your son's age. The details of the larger than HO
scale are more appealing to new slot enthusiasts. Adjustable voltage power
supplies can help control HO cars for young racers. Unfortunately, my enthusiasm for HO slot racing is not shared by my sons. They refer to my
T-Jets as the "junk cars" & have only slightly more interest in magnet cars.
Mostly, they display some of my 1/32nd cars in their rooms. Good luck and have fun w/your decision. :)

I have two slot tracks : one 15 meters 3lanes 1/32 track, and a 4lanes 12.50meters h0 track. I run mostly only on the h0 track, but am happy to be able to collect and run some cool 1/32 model cars too.

BUT if you got to 1/32, you'll need space. You can't build anyhting interesting under the 12-15meters of track, and a track support about 3.50 meters on 1.50 meters. It's for me the real minimum to make a quite interesting track in 1/32.

But with a track support of 3.50meters x 1.50meters, you can build a REALLY great h0 4lanes track, wich will be cheaper but more interesting than the 1/32 two lane track on the same space...

I might just build a 1/43 track because I was given 100 feet of Carrera Go track from a family friend.

Now you can build 4 lanes tracks with carrera go (it exists 3 differents curves radius).

Just change the controllers, and add a good powersupply, and go on !

Ranch Design sells cool parts for 1/43 slot racing. BTW? scx compact seems to be more interesting than carrera go, on the car side (real slide guides, less magnet).
