Kind of one way with where the races are located?
What happened to the Winter Blast @ Turn 4, one of the bigest races in the north east.
with all the tracks in the country, is it really rite to have 2 @ Greenville??
nothing against it, just does not seem fair to the rest of the racers.

Hi Puf,

Great question. Let me do my best to answer it since I was the one that chose Greenville to host this, our first TOUR Championship event. I did this for a number of reasons:

Since we are just getting our organization off the ground, we had no process in place (like ROAR does) for bidding and selecting a venue. ROAR has facility requirements, insurance requirements, qualifications, etc. We just don’t have that process in place yet. So, to keep things simple, I just left the race where it was last year, which hosted the largest turnout we’d had in years.
Allan deserved the race for all he has done to create the TOUR from its inception. People forget that this is a volunteer effort. Allan and I have been on the phone about 10-20 hours per week since March putting this together. He has more than earned the rights to this first race.
This location is “somewhat” centrally located…….not geographically, but based on entries. He has a history of running big races and I was confident of the quality of the event. One less variable to worry about, in our first hectic year.
I am more than willing to consider other venues for our TOUR Championship race in years to come. I don’t know all the factors of how we’ll determine who and when. I do know this………..it WILL be based on a track’s participation in TOUR events and its conformance to TOUR rules. I will be requesting that each of the “Majors” have a spot on their entry form that says Home track____________. We’ll see which tracks are supporting our events and take it from there.

Look forward to seeing you at the races.

Looks good. Just need to find out how I can get to WI. Can't wait to hear what the point structure is going to be.

I think you will see a lot of tracks that want to get in on this series next year...Rosewood, K&N, Maximus, Classic, Marshalls etc.

Great points J-Dub,

Let me be clear, we welcome every track to be part of the TOUR. I personnally feel that the big regional races are the keys to the success of our hobby. I love Marshall's Open House & Cabin Fever, CRC's New Year's Dash, and the Winterblast at Turn 4.

The reason I highlighted the Big 4 races as "Majors" was to coordinate the largest 4 races in our sport under a single platform, and unify them with a point series.

I could see the regional areas working together in the future, taking 3-5 regional races, coordinating the dates, and crowning a Northeast Rgion Champion, Southeast Region Champion, etc.

It just takes a few people being willing to donate the time.

Is there going to be a way for non travelers to compete? I am a traveler, but I know lots of locals that wont be able to travel like that and would love to be apart of a National Points system something like the NASCAR Weekly Series.............

Just curious............

Darrell that is our plan for next year after tracks and clubs have a chance to see if they want to be part of a TOUR series. That was our orignal plan but, when we put a few feelers out and did not get a good reception from tracks. Various reasons but mainly too new for anyone to make a committment to. It will require tracks who want to be a part of a series to promote it and send in results. I think it would be great to have someone in Iowa chasing another racer in Maine for the points championship and never have raced on the same track. This would be great for the non travlers. Who are the backbone of the hobby. Thanks for asking and supporting

You may want to check out the dirt oval deal where tracks have special races that award points based on entries and you use your best 8 races. For instance if you run 2 classes at your tracks TOUR point event you can count that as two races if you run more then 8 they use your best 8 races this way you can stay close to home and run your local tracks and run for a national title. Your track can only have one national title point race per year. And all the big races will count toward the title also . So its rather easy t oget 8 races in a years time. I am sure Rob Cutman would be more then happy to share how its all set up. Here is a link to the thread on how its set up hope it helps http://www.dirtoval.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36320

Why not any asphalt tracks?

The purpose of this organization was, first, to coordinate carpet oval racing. If we get it right, then I'd love to see the same thing duplicated on asphalt.

Page 1 of the Rules covers this:

Objective:

This was a huge endeavor. Thus, the Objective of our organization had to be limited to a primary goal. That was to coordinate carpet oval 10th scale pan car racing. This, our first attempt, addresses the carpet oval season from October 1st 2009 through May 1st 2010.

Why not any asphalt tracks?

We have been trying to finish ironing carpet season out. I have had a couple of tracks talk to me about putting a series together. I will be working on it the next few months. It will have the same requirements that carpet have. Tracks who support the TOUR, have a proven track record of handling a big race. I would like to see a 5 or six race series. Just some thoughts right now.

I know for sure I can't make all 4 races. I'm shooting for at least 2 maybe 3 of them at least though.

All the races have a month or more separation in them, with that and reliaztion that most probably will not make all 4. In reality there probably is a drop. Remmeber this is the first year and we are learning as we go. There probably will be some teaks after this season.

Look foward to you coming up to the Ovalmasters.

Im just curious...and Im not bashing here....just whats the big selling point for the tracks in the north east to jump in on the concept of this latest organization when there is no major event even close for us.....I will buy whatever I need to race....concerning rule change wise..so im not one of those "im taking my toys and going home types".I also know you cannot make everyone happy....but....why would I want to get behind this? when no races in the north east and 2 races at one track?

MIDWESTRC

So the racers that do travel, will want to come to some of the bigger races on the east coast, because all the classes are the same there and at their home track. And vise- versa

As a first year startup, I would think that you would.....

A) be happy that all of your local tracks and drivers can now get on the same page of rules. When you go race, you can do it knowing that you have the right stuff to go race with it.

B) Understand that as a first year startup, not all things are going to be as perfect as we all might want them to be. You should be happy that there is a championship series AT ALL, much less complain about it not being in your back yard.

I feel the exact same way about the BRL. I want to run BRL races, but the closest one for me I think is about 10 hours away. It is what it is, and if I want to race them, I have to travel.

Also, I see nothing wrong with having 2 of the TOUR races at one track. Allan has put in quite a bit of hard work on this effort, and I personally see no problem with him being rewarded for his efforts. I am pretty sure it won't be that way next year, as I imagine as more tracks get on board, the championship schedule can broaden out a bit.

C) Give it a year to pan out and get some footing under it before you sink it like the Titanic. We are all in a transition period with TOUR but the promise that it provides is well worth working through those first year hurdles.

Hey, maybe I've missed something that was stated in the rules or on another thread but what exactly are the possible points in a single class for each of these races? Are there bonus points for TQ of the event? What is the prize at the end of the championship, if any?

Personally I really think it's a great deal and totally support the championship. I also think that it's important to know what we're racing for and how the points work.

Maybe a TOUR Cup for each class?

Hey Bill: Thanks for the question. I should have listed this before.

Point sill start at 100 to win and drop 2 points for each place after down to 10 points. Every one attending will recieve a min of 10 points.

The decision on trophy or cup has not been made. We are checking on the cost of a nice bowl now.
