View Full Version : How do I do this?
black? 08-05-2009, 10:36 PM I'm making a long distance RC airplane. I have a receiver that when you release the controls the plane automatically levels off. I however require some way for the plane to, when it leaves the transmitter range it levels off and flies in the direction its pointed towards. How can I make that/find something for it?
Minreg 08-06-2009, 12:17 AM Dont know much about planes unless flying them into trees and wires counts.
But cant you use a PCM receiver to do what you need. They have a fail-safe.
Tim Mc 08-06-2009, 07:33 AM What you are talking about doing is dangerous. When that plane runs out of fuel/battery, it will come down. The problem is that you cannot control where/when it lands and what it hits. Also, if it crosses any flight paths for commercial planes landing or small plane normal low level flight paths. In another word, you are creating a drone that may have deadly concequenses. Plus, it is illegal by Federal laws and AMA standards. You should really rethink your project!!I'm making a long distance RC airplane. I have a receiver that when you release the controls the plane automatically levels off. What you are proposing in today's fear filled climate is very brave to say the least. However the AMA did have a long distance team. Don't know if they still do or not. I had a good friend that flew part of the route one year. That's where you need to start the AMA. These guys should be able to guide or console you about your project.

black? 08-06-2009, 05:31 PM I have the power situation covered already. I don't want to control it until it enters my transmitter range. I just want to know how program it for straight flight for long distances.

Black,
How long a distance?
black? 08-06-2009, 11:23 PM As long as possible. Hopefully trans-Atlantic.
Mike Clark 08-07-2009, 10:57 AM Black,
TransAtlantic flight, Oh Yea I believe that! What kills me is that you say it as a matter of fact.
Let me save you some expensive trouble and the R/C community some more bad press, Don't press the issue!
At best you may wind up a visitor at Gitmo! At the least, after the FBI, FAA & Homeland Security gets through with you, purchasing balsa for you next 1/2a model airplane will be a challange.
Look, after 9/11 the R/C community almost lost the right to fly R/C airplanes anywhere, due to fear and goverment regulation. If not for the AMA and several congressmen, the R/C airplane community would all be back flying control line airplanes. So you'll forgive me if, I'll pass on you astute effor to piss off the afore mensioned groups.
Dude are you a home grown terrorist?
wirenut67 09-04-2009, 12:22 PM So some simple math tells me the fuel consumption needed for a flight of that caliber, and the lift required to haul said fuel, makes this quite a bit larger than a predator drone.....not very realistic at all.
shintastrife 12-10-2009, 01:18 PM no saying im on his side. but did you ever stop to think he might have the ok to do so. he might be doing it as a project or something for school or work

Dude! Your kidding right? This project was beyond his vocabulary not to mension anything about technicial ability or wherewithall.
TurfDemon 12-15-2009, 11:30 AM OK I got you all beat! You need to learn to use Google a little better. Check out this site: http://tam.plannet21.com/
