Usually it is caused by a fuel obstruction, you may have debris in your pilot or main jet. I would take off carb. and clean. Also check the fuel flow from the shutoff valve to the carb.. Also check for debris in the fuel tank.
I have a Fourtrax 250 that had the same problem. The owner had put on a plastic fuel tank because of the rust from the metal tank. The rust got into the carb., I cleaned the carb. and it runs great.

I have a 300 ex myself, give the carburetor a good clean and check the diaphragm for damage. Also there is a fuel screen in the fuel shut off which acts as a fuel filter, you might want to clean that as well.
