View Full Version : If...
Jhawk19 07-30-2009, 10:37 AM If someone had a plastic kit of a "Man" described as being made of a type of metal, (ie Copper, Steel, Aluminum, Iron, etc) and someone wanted to light up a small circle in the hands, eyes, and chest, what size LEDs should be used?
:confused::rolleyes::confused::rolleyes::confused: :rolleyes::confused::rolleyes:
Ignatz 07-30-2009, 10:45 AM For the hands, very small. For the head and chest, not so small. Is mostly pretty simple. This is a T1 standard LED that I basically epoxied into the chest. It's a simple DIY project. The hands I decided not to light up, but they are hollow and you should be able to fit a smaller LED in there. I used a curved piece of frosted plastic to diffuse the ARC reactor in the chest, so I think you might need to do the same thing with the repulsors and eyepieces.

Ignatz 07-30-2009, 10:55 AM I ran the wires down one of the legs and made a hole in the base for the wires to feed out of. Here's a shot of the whole circuit, you can see the switch and resistor that will ultimately be in the base, plus the battery, which almost fits the base (!). It's pretty simple but you can easily add another LED for the head, and small LEDs for the repulsors. It may not be as fancy as what an electronics expert can put together, but it works okay and looks pretty good to me.

Jhawk19 07-30-2009, 12:46 PM Awesome! :) Thank you! :)
I found 3 3mm LEDs and 1 5mm LED pre-wired for a 9v battery. I'll use these for my kit. My only issue is going to be that piece of clear/frosted plastic for the chest.

Try using any piece of clear plastic, say from a plastic package or bottle. To frost it simply sand it using 1000 grit paper followed by a polish with very fine steel wool.
John P 07-30-2009, 10:25 PM If... a picture paints a thousand words, how will I paint Iron Man?
Jhawk19 07-31-2009, 06:57 AM Hey John P,
I don't think this is under 1,000 words, but it'll help you quite a bit!

His finished model looks awesome and this is how I plan on painting my kit.
