View Full Version : which body to run
monty c 07-30-2009, 01:09 AM gearing up for the indoor season and trying to decide which body to run. protoform C-HD or T-HD??? was all set on the THD but really like the looks of the CHD. hows the handling difference between them?? just for the record i will be running a Darkside enemy solid. I ran the FMD last year and wanted to try something different.
Thanks
GearboxGraphics 07-30-2009, 08:55 AM For me, outdoor cap racing, the C-HD has proved to be a better choice. I ran the T-HD first and then changed over to the C-HD. The C-HD made the car a little more aggressive, but it seems to plant the car much better for me. To me, the T-HD felt like it had to much drag on it. Just a body change and no other changes at all for the first run, I could immediately tell the difference in handling.
The T-HD is more symmetrical side-to-side, where the C-HD is not. I have found that with the C-HD, you really have to rake the nose down hard for it to really make the car feel smooth. I like the C-HD a lot and have gotten my car pretty good with it on there.

If you ran the FMD last year and liked that for your track then you'd probably be better off on the CHD. The THD will be more aggressive and less planted in back.
Assuming a FMD really was a good choice for your track\class I'd consider a Charger instead of the CHD or THD.
If you like the Windtunnel bodies I had some decent luck with the HSI. Less aggressive than either a CHD or THD, probably more similar to a Charger in feel.

should have been more clear, i ran a T-HD 2 years ago and loved it. but it was with a different car that what i have now. last year i ran the FMD to see the difference. most of the class ran the T last year and i was just wondering about opinions on the C-hd since its new. Just looking for people who have ran both bodies and what areas each one is special at..
Windtunnels arent bad, but the LHS stocks the protoforms
thanks, maybe i'll just get one of each and try it out.........
MURDOCKRC 08-03-2009, 11:05 AM Have your LHS contact Windtunnel direct and we will set them up with many things in addition to the bodies. Windtunnel started the 3 letter names and plan to stay with it in order to save you money. In addition the the bodies we also have the springs, king pins, tires and much more "in demand" stuff for your car.

boomer21 08-03-2009, 01:44 PM the CHD is a really nice body and is really aggressive,,the CHD really turns
KenBajdek 08-05-2009, 12:09 AM CHD for 21.5 2 cell it seems to be more planted and turns really well. But for the new 1 cell classes it may not make a huge difference due to the much slower speeds.

I would say the same thing. The C-HD plants the rear much better than the T-HD in my opinion. It also seems to help the car turn better up off of the corner.
I could see that body being an issue though in slower, 1c classes. The C-HD plants the car so well that you might actually see a decrease in speed through a run.

monty c 08-05-2009, 10:48 AM thanks again guys, the class we are running is 13.5 4 cell. yea yea i know we are still running 4 cell. sounds like CHD is the way to go...........
jflack 08-05-2009, 04:14 PM I ran the C-HD at easley this past weekend and went 39 4:03 in 10.5BL 1 Cell. I didn't see any problem with running the body in 1 cell classes! But it could just be me, that was the first laps I've turned since the 2008 Ovalmasters.
I personally don't like the T-HD, it just doesn't fell right to me and I have problems mounting them. I just can't get it on the chassis where I think it should be.
If you are a beginner, I would go with the Dodge Protoform body, you really can't go wrong with it. Add a little front rake in the body and it will turn with the best of them and never get loose............EVER........the best body wingless also......
