View Full Version : dismounting premounted tires???
mGraves 07-28-2009, 04:45 AM I have some premounts that I want to remove the tires from. I've heard that you can bake them at a certain temp for so long and pop the the tires right off. Can anyone elaborate a little?? What temp and for how long?? Do you just lay them flat on a cookie sheet??
Thanks!!
Justin B 07-28-2009, 09:29 AM I haven't heard about baking them. There is a video on youtube about how to boil them......never tried it though.
Kyosho Racer 07-28-2009, 10:20 AM I bake them at 300 for about 10 minutes, then take them out and with oven mits on start breaking the seal. If they don't come right off I put them back in the oven for a few more minutes. Works great for me although it will make the house stink so make sure you open some windows:thumbsup:
Jeff
P.S. I lay them on a cookie sheet with a piece of alum. foil on it.
airconde 07-28-2009, 10:34 AM You can also soak them in Acitone

+1 leave in over night and the tires fall off the next morning with no glue in the rims.

It's kinda hard on the foam inserts but it works well.Actually the fumes will do the job,so if you cut a piece of wood and lay them on it in the container...you can save the foams too.
Baking works...but will pi$$ the entire family off(it does stink).
Boiling works well too.
Take your pick Matt.
(I'm a little disappointed that we ate dinner together and you didnt ask me:rolleyes:)

Sorry buddy...I had 13,000 things going on during the meeting.
CClay1282 07-29-2009, 06:24 PM 350 for 10 min. Dont push too hard on the tire, you will tear it. If it doesnt come loose easily put back in over for a few more mins.
penguineman 08-02-2009, 02:44 PM yes as mentioned above don't push to hard you can also warp your wheels if you aren't careful I warped some truggy wheels here a while back. but all works good as stated above
kra2y 08-05-2009, 07:08 AM i tried the boiling once and it warped my rims and the tires still wouldnt come off.
airconde 08-05-2009, 09:34 AM If you use Acitone you can't put Losi pink componds in there it takes the oil out of the tire's and turns them rock hard . I havn'nt tryied Panther C or soft componds.
CClay1282 08-05-2009, 03:29 PM So, it sounds like the baking method is the best. LOL. Your mom/wife just wont like it!
2fst2c 08-08-2009, 10:48 PM I boil them. Just changed a set a few weeks ago. 1 tire at a time boil for 20 mins. Put on some old oven mitts, (I used a couple OvGloves)Take it out with some tongs, and pull them off the rims. I didn't have any problems with the wheels warping. The acetone will kill the foams, takes a long time, and it stinks. Baking them stinks up the house.
transambill 08-12-2009, 01:48 AM I've baked a couple sets and didnt notice any strange smells?
My old sniffer must not be what it use to be.
Anyway, wrap wheels/tires in foil and place on cookie sheet, preheat oven to 450-500 then turn off oven, put cookie sheet in oven. Once the oven cools down pull cookie sheet out and unrap your wheels and tires. Tires will pop off wheels leaving foams unharmed.Did a set of SLAYER wheels/tires Sunday.
Boiling works too but foams decay rappidly bafter being subjected to any kind of moister.
Boiling will also discolor chrome wheels. It dulls them makeing the chrome look milky.
Bob Imbrigotta 09-09-2009, 09:20 PM Bakeing in a prewarmed oven does work great. I will have to redo a few, it seems the side that is down on the pan gets hotter and comes right off and the up side needs more heat. The foams do disenegrate somewhat but I just wanted to reuse the wheels. Good info on this thread.
