Nope. Not here we go again. We already know what to expect for the upcoming carpet season. Lets not make this a negative thing for oval. We don't use that battery, and wont unless it is for unlimited MOD.

Hey...is that 50c PER CELL!

if it is, WOW would that make a GREAT 1 cell (3.7v) Pack - WOW 100c (That's like a WHOLE Dollar!)

That would let you pull what (lets see 100c x's 5200mAh) would be like being able to pull 520 AMPS - GO BABY!

Whether you run single cell or 2 cell, new packs are only approved 2 times a year, at worst your buying a new pack 2 times in a year,........... thats NOT EVEN CLOSE to as bad as it was back in the day with nicad and nimh.

OMG, imagine that the guys who sell stuff to the R/C community are trying to come up with the latest thing we all want to buy ....... if anyone is thinking 1 cell will stop that your kidding yourselves........... again 2 times a year the "latest and greatest" will be approved by ROAR for competition not whenever like it used to be in the ni-cad days.....

Dave and I both ran a 25C and 40C with the 7.5 test and it was hard to tell much difference. I wouldn't get too worry about the C numbers right now... IMO

As long as tracks adopt the TOUR rules we shouldn't have an issue. I'm not concerned.

Good thing we only have to worry about 2 per year with TOUR taking over!!

LOL Joel - WHAT has the TOUR got to do with 2 per year? They are using ROAR's approval dates (Wasn't that what EVERYONE else was using before the tour....)

What I can't believe is people who buy into the thought..."It's only twice a year"

Ok so say a SEASON starts in October, but you are till racing in SEPTEMBER...but you NEED a COUPLE new packs for Next Weekends race... What do you do?

A) STAY HOME, because you KNOW there is a better battery going to be approved NEXT MONTH - and the money you SAVE Staying HOME this week will PAY for those...

B) GO and BUY the NEW PACKS 2 1/2 weeks before the NEW STUFF hits the street (LEGALLY), and hope since what you just bought is only a couple weeks old, you can get 1/2 of what you JUST paid for it....

Just because there is an APPROVAL DATE - doesn't mean THAT is the exact date people will buy their new batteries... (if it DOES - then maybe it should be YOU CAN ONLY BUY NEW BATTERIES on SEPT 1st, and MARCH 1st or something...

(Sorry, but I find so much of this "Same Old Same Old" amusing!!)

...as many of you find OUR rules the same way!! :)

I thought Lipo packs lasted for years Joe. Why wouldn't you just run the packs or pack that you already have that would be legal for the current season or approval period? The new packs would be illegal to run until October 1st. With the TOUR rules, that would be the answer. Probably would be the same with your series, right, if you were to make a pack change? Why does this have to be so difficult???

Well, sometimes THINGS happen. You SMOKE a PACK, you DESTROY a PACK in a CRASH...not EVERY purchase is simply made because it's the BEGINNING of the season.

The new packs would be illegal to run until October 1st. With the TOUR rules, that would be the answer. Probably would be the same with your series, right, if you were to make a pack change?

Yes it would...(Which is where the question stemmed from) and YES.. I did/do NOT allow the NEW stuff until the NEW DATE, and YES it did cause a racer to NOT return to racing until AFTER that date...and "the STAYING HOME allowed me to BUY the NEW Batteries" was the comment made.

Why does this have to be so difficult???

Who said anything about it being difficult? LOL

katf1sh

joe allows the heating of lipo packs...this alone will help age a pack or swell one

swtour
08-27-2009, 08:31 PM
LOL funny thing is...is it hasn't cause a SINGLE issue in 18 months, and NONE of My battery failures had anything to do with heating...

Oh and I don't only "ALLOW" heating - I encourage it, along with ENCOURAGING cooling of MOTORS "Before and AFTER" a run!!

A $15.00 HEATING pad offers just as good a PERFORMANCE ENHANCEMENT as switching battery brands....without ALL the expense!!! ;)

(matter of fact, I'm trying to design a STATOR COOLER for the NEW Ballistic Stators, so you can have a nice ICY COLD ONE ready for your next race...but to pass Motor Temp TECH - you better toss the RING in with your battery heater!!)

...oh and ALL of OUR batteries have lasted LONGER than the rest of the countries RULES!! lmao!!

Hey Kat,

I never said a word about the BRL -

I don't follow them enough to know or care about their numbers either. I'm not one who would BASH another Promoter or race director who works his ass off....for his racers.

I can say, on average we only get about 75-80 "different" racers a year, (it use to be over 100) and we steadily get 35-50 at a given event.

But to me the impressive thing is - MOST (over 50%) of our racers have been racing together for the better part of 2 decades! (THAT's virtually 20 years from THIS small group!!)

So, if you feel the need to constantly BASH these guys... go right ahead!

thankfully if you do not have one of these packs it is not the end of the world. today Frank Mertz did a side by side by side comparison of the smc 40c, smc 50c, and tp 40c. all of them were very close. the tp40c was actually a bit better. so i guess we need a 60c soon just to stir things up? :)

I can keep going if you like ... I just feel like this we had an awesome SNOWBIRDS 09 and no one left there thinking I GOT HOSED by the rules ...Not like 08 when there was a bad fish smell in the air [no pun intended]... I am going to race by TOUR rules but doenst mean I think there is another forum to race with .Just because theres COOL AID avaliable doesnt mean you have to drink it ... Lata Playa
