Well it's time to have a little fun  I know not everybody can or will come out but we are going to start running indoor Monday nights for practice and possibly racing. The opening time will be 5pm for practice with a race time TBD depending on who shows up. At the present time this will be for electric only.... Please bring dry track tires if you would like to attend like red tapers, red bk bars, barcodes, square fuzzies, inside jobs, switches or anything you think might work. We really won't know the hot tire for a few weeks..... I will have more info this week for everybody.

Now on to the outdoor side of things. I know it is late in the year but we are going to have an outdoor track at the same location as the indoor track. We hope to begin working on the area were it will go this upcoming week depending on weather. This is going to take alot of man hours to start from scratch but we hope to have it open mid August and will race on Sundays. The start times will be announced upon completion and this will be the home of the outdoor track for next season. We don't want to rush the build but it will be open before indoor is due to start!!! We want it to be a fun environment and a track capable of running 1/10th and 1/8th scales.

Ok and now last but not least Ashtabula RC is going to be offering outdoor and indoor rock crawling. This will be for fun at first with possible weekly or biweekly competitions in the near future!!! So stay tuned as we will be able to provide dates, times, and fees ASAP.........

The site will be updated soon with all the new info:

When is the Monday night thing starting? With all this rain I need to get some racing in somewhere.

Cool news about the rock crawling. Like a few of you guys seen, they are boring to watch but once you take the wheel your hooked. It would be nice to get a club going in this area.

I would say on Monday nights if there are enough of us to race that racing will start anywhere from 6:45 to 7:15 to give people a chance to get there and get a little practice in since alot of people get off work anytime from as early as 3pm and as late as 6pm. We will take a vote each night to see if people just want to practice or run 2 heats and a main or even 3 heats and a main. We are gonna be very flexible. If 10 trucks show up and 2 2wheels and the 2 wheels don't want to run with the trucks and just want to practice then the trucks can be set up to race and the 2wheels can run inbetween the heats since obviously time will be needed for charging. This is just meant to give people the chance to get out of the house and play. So come on out and play. We hope to be able to help out any potential new racers on these Monday night fun sessions as well as to try to figure out some type of rules for CORR SCT style truck racing since new manufacturers have opted to join. We now have the Traxxas Slash, Associated SC10, Team Losi Strike, HPI Blitz, and i'm sure others will decide to join in the near future. There low cost ready to run features, realistic style looks, and handling make them a blast. And we would like to possibly break them up into 2 classes to make things fair for everybody. We also need anybody in the area who has or is interested in rock crawling to come out and provide suggestions as this is a new venture for us this year and will be a bit of a learning curve for all of us.

Also last year as many of you know was the 1st year at the current location and we all know heating was not the best and the location is not the prettiest but we are going to be working over the next two months to improve these things to make this new facility alot more enjoyable for the upcoming winter schedule.

So does anybody plan on attending opening night Monday August 3rd?

Good to hear. Bring them on out whenever you can. We need alot of feedback to get the crawling segment off the ground and headed in the right direction. I am going to be posting over on www.rccrawler.com to see if there's any other interest in the surrounding areas

I'm going to try to make it monday. Just my two cents on the corr thing, I think there should be a box stock class for the slash just like it has been, but what to do with the rtr associated and the new losi truck is another thing. I also think there should be an open corr class run whatcha brung, any tires, ball diffs, big lipos, big motors, graphite parts you name it, but.... it should still retain a corr style body. This is just my thoughts would like to hear other opinions!

Great idea! Ben will miss the 3rd, he will be in South Carolina, but should be there the 10th. He wil be racing mod truck and 2 wheel drive buggy this year. Great track to race and and a program ran for the rest to set the bar at.
There was heat last year?

Wow, I just saw this post and did a double take because I almost got tired every day reading and waiting for mid-Oct about how great racing & practice indoors was at Astabula, the good old days, then wham bam, I saw this, wow, that sounds awesome and fun! Either racing or practicing with 2wd mod during Moday nights is totally fine and is great!

Count for me to bring up electric 2wd & 4wd, and wheel it out with Ryan and the rest then!!

Pinksleeve, btw that's the most typing I have ever seen you do on the Ashtabula thread! rc bug must have bitten good, ha ha.

What is the size of the outdoor track going to be ? Is it going to have a lot of big jumps ? What kind of dirt you going to use ? Middle of August would be the 16th right ?

Here's my answers but maybe not Ryans answers  Size: I'm not 100% sure yet because we haven't measured the area. Jumps: If it was up to me we'd never have straight aways and everything would be atleast waist high. BROWN DIRT i think....
And the 16th might be possible :beatdeadhorse:

Sounds great to me. Get rid of stock and mod truck amd run CORR in it's place! But limit it to CORR bodies and tires made to fit CORR wheels.

That can be a good thing. Maybe we can have like a Kings of Northeast Ohio points series throughout the winter. Like 2 races at each track with each time being on a new layout or something ;)

?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ?????????
Some one needs to talk to the other track owners and figure out some rules for the CORR classes.

Stock - RTR or 12turn traxxxas/Losi
Mod - 13.5 or 27 turn

both classes run CORR bodies and CORR tires.

Hey guys! Sorry I haven't been on in a LONG time. Looks like I'm finishing my busy part of the work season so I can get back to racing.

There are questions about why we are starting indoor so early, basically we are going to run monday night practice/racing to get things going again. Anyone who ran wed. night practice knows it was a great time to get alot of laps and have a good time. We are also going to put an outdoor track there. The other outdoor track is complete, its just going to work better where the indoor is. (rain= indoor)

We also will be moving the rock crawling course inside once the the building exchanges hands. We currently have a good amount of rocks and will continue to get more.

As for the other indoor tracks, I'm sure we can work together so everyone has multiple places to race. I'm all for working with other tracks, not against them. Lance and I have worked together for a long time. When Erie was open, we worked together as well.

This is not the beginning of winter season, but the beginning of spring,......just real late!

If slash is going to run with slashes only and no other TRUCKS in the class then i don't see why a motor limit is needed  However I think all the trucks should run together in a open class aside from box stock slash where all the trucks can run with RTR electronics or your choice of electronics with a up to a 13.5 motor rule limit. Of course on CORR syle tires and CORR style bodies. You don't need anything more then a 13.5 in them anyways and that way a 13.5 powered SC10 is around the same speed as a 12T Slash......... The whole problem with electric is there are to many classes and to many places to hide from the competition  Stock this, mod that, 2wd, 4wd, truck, CORR trucks, ect ect ect

This is the problem with a points series. I think that has to be limited in classes to chose from as well because you don't want to have to come up with trophies for 8 classes and multiple main winners. Because then you've got money in trophies that might not be going to anybody.

That's what makes nitro so much easier because there are truely only 2 classes. BUGGY or TRUGGY

I would rather run a CORR style truck over a traditional 2wd truck because they are alot more fun to run and def think we need a class where you can compete with whatever make truck you choose.

It would be nice if we could just run all the RTR's together and if you choose to run different electronics then it's an open class but it would make it ALOT more competitive with a MOTOR limit.... The only problem is we need all the tracks in our area to follow the same rules so that way you can show up to race at any track and know you are legal to run in SPEC CORR truck or OPEN CORR truck. With SPEC being any RTR CORR truck with RTR speedo RTR servo, RTR motor and NO exceptions. And OPEN being any truck with any electronics but with a motor LIMIT. all that really needs to be settled upon is what is the motor limit for OPEN because all the RTR trucks are very compararable in speed. And just like any class every vehicle obviously handles different so there's no way to SPEC that.... So what would you like the MOTOR limit to be in OPEN....... So please post under a CORR truck thread that i will start and add your name with your vote.

Totally agreed! That's why we went to open electric classes at Medina. It worked pretty well. Not perfect but decent.

I have a 10.5...it's really no big deal I can buy another one (hopefully NOT a 17.5 though) but I thought that would be one less cost up front.

I have no idea if a 10.5 would be too much motor or not...I have not even driven one yet...let alone a mod one. I know Wayne said Tyler was over motored with a 10.5 out in CT.

A 10.5 is alot of motor in a Slash. Look at it like running spec treaded street tires in Nascar

badassrevo

13.5 is a little too much depending on the track, but it would be a good choice because of everyone that used to run stock truck can just use it to run "open CORR"

I'm sure it is. No doubt.

I look at it like 2wd mod... some guys run 10.5 and some run 7.5 but the lap time are VERY close. They just require different driving styles and setups. Sure you probably have much less traction with a CORR truck though.

I agree to. I think that 13.5 is a happy medium for most people on our area though. My daughters slash was plenty fast witha 17.5 though ;)
