harristotle 07-22-2009, 05:52 PM Ok, my first impression with these is that these things are awesome, BUT my second impression is the same as with the Greenlight race themed cars. Big rear wheels and decals doesn't make it a race car! Let's see roll bars and hopped up engines at least... please?
Yes, they are awesome looking, and yes I will be snagging the Ford's, I just wish a diecast company would take the effort and make an amazing drag car series!
Thanks for the pics and info. Fred!

Hi Harristotle,
Glad you like them, so far? Please notice the text just above the car on the packaging. It reads, "STAGE 1 - STOCK/SUPER STOCK CLASS". We are taking this series in stages. Stage 1 just happens to be more of a stock type of vehicle. They do not have big over sized drag slicks, that is too come at a later stage. They do have drag slicks that fit inside the stock wheel wells. They are race cars, it's about consistency and racing with in classes.
Now, Stage 2 will have some of the items you are talking about. Just like in real drag racing, the faster you go the more safety equipment you need. I think if you run the 1/4 mile faster than 12.00 you need a roll bar. These cars run just under the requirement. There will be 3 stages for this series, and no, I won't tell you when the next stages will be coming out. :)
Onto the cars real quick. These are not reproductions of old historical vintage drag cars. However, the companies are the real deal. They are not made up names. In fact the black & white 1957 Ford that has Hawkins Garage lettering, is the garage my Dad works at. He has been there since 1973 before taking over a year ago (www.taylorstreetrods.com). The other one I am all geeked out about is the Green Chuy's Automotive 1970 Mustang. It's a 1970 Ford Mustang Sports roof 428 Super Cobra Jet. What it really is a base Mustang with a kick a$$ motor and no unnecessary weight adding options. The guys at Ford wanted us to just call it a 1970 Ford Mustang, I hope the hard core Mustang guys appreciate the effort.
Thanks,
Sean

harristotle 07-22-2009, 06:48 PM Sean, thanks for the extra info. on this series. I saw the stage thing, and the little voice in the back of my head was saying that might be it, but it obviously didn't say it loud enough . The real world connections definitely add a lot to the series right there and I especially like that it's the Ford's with the cool stories connected :D
I won't ask about when we will see the next stages, but I will ask if it involes beefed up engines?.. not cartoon type things, but something different then stock, like bigger engines, more exotic carburetor set ups, or superchargers.
Thanks for being involved with the collectors here Sean!

Good Call, and I agree.
maybe even add a little Fire Extinguisher or something. I do like that Fairlane though, just like you.

It's all good my friend. Check out some of the more detailed images that Craftey posted over at Swifty's, http://swiftysgarage.net/index/
The '57 Ford also has the old Ford Rotunda sticker. The '70 Mustang has the old FoMoCo sticker as well. I really like the vintage MoPar sticker on the '58 Plymouth. No cartoon accessories for the Auto-Thentics or Detroit-Muscle EVER!!!
Thanks,
Sean

Thanks for the heads up on the other pictures Sean. This is going to be a cool series!
I accidentally clicked on the M2 homepage at first and noticed you have pics up of the 1/24 Boss 302. It looks real good! I've already got the Grabber Blue Boss 429.
Lummox 07-22-2009, 08:11 PM These are mighty fine, good job M2!!!
I'll really get "geeked out" (LOL!) if yooz guys make the stage three cars straight-axed gassers!!!
DCPDGUY 07-22-2009, 08:59 PM Neat idea, this may be the first non Chrysler purchase I will make, besides the cars from the multipacks.
Now if you would make the 2nd release the same cars and follow them through stage 2 and 3 that would be sweet. And Sean if you use the this idea you owe me. :)
88th division 07-26-2009, 10:21 AM As with the autothentics customs, I will pass on these. I like the stock 50's cars the best.
sweet....i'll be getting all of these there gonna fit right in on a project im doing
craftymore 07-27-2009, 02:34 PM Here's a few more detailed shots of this series that Richard of M2 sent me.

You can see the rest on Swifty's Garage.
rarew30 07-27-2009, 11:32 PM Very cool cars. Sean is that your sportwagon in the garage picture?
sean72 07-28-2009, 12:48 AM Very cool cars. Sean is that your sportwagon in the garage picture?
rarew30, yeah that's my '65 Sport Wagon. The funny thing is a friend of ours, Oscar, has his '66 Sport Wagon at the shop. It was just painted and he's putting it back together. Since your a Buick fan, you can't see it but inside the shop is a beautiful '65 Riviera. My Dad is rebuilding the 425 Nailhead and some other things to it. I'll see if I have some photos of it.

kevman 07-28-2009, 09:43 PM ARGH!!! why did they use the same steelies for the fronts on the rear wheels?????!!!!!!!!!! the rears do not have the center spindle with dustcap sticking out. Tiny details but very annoying!!!
rarew30 07-28-2009, 09:56 PM Sweet, wish I was there to see the cars in person. I am going to dig up a picture for you of my buddies Sportwagon, maybe some pics of my old Vista Cruiser!

Tiny details? Are you kidding me, I don't think anyone else gives you as many tiny details as we do. First off, I know exactly what you are talking about on the front wheels vs. the rears & the dust cap. Let me explain the thinking behind it. The yellow 1957 Chevy for example has two sizes of steel wheels. The fronts are the skinnier Auto-thentic rims, they are 3mm wide. The rears are from the Detroit-Muscle line and come in at 4mm wide. Not a whole lot of difference, but I love the way it makes the cars look more realistic. So we have two molds for the same steel wheel but in two different sizes. Would I have liked to had have different front steel wheels and back steel wheels, yeah in a perfect world. But, I could also see the factory making a mistake and sometime mixing them up. So at the end of the day, I just couldn't justify the price of the extra molds and thought the money could be spent on something else.

Yeah, I would love to see them. In high school I had my 1972 Chevelle (still have it!) and my buddy Mike had a bright yellow 1967 Olds 442 with a 455 in it. His family where '66 - '67 442 nuts. They had something like 13 of them over the years. When I meet Mike they where down to 3. They had a black hardtop and a red post car with the rally gauges and four speed. I think the post car might have gotten stripped for parts. What a shame.

When I said "tiny details", what I meant was that I am nitpicking a little bit, not that M2 ignores tiny details. I agree that you guys are the king of detail, no question. I just wish they had done this small thing right. heck even JL and GL have two different molds for the front and rear steelie. I will have to make my own "adjustments" I guess.
stretchdog 07-30-2009, 04:20 PM Sweet rides!! Im gonna definitley pick up a couple!!
rarew30 08-02-2009, 11:55 PM Pm to you! Sean

I enjoy this line, just not a big fan of the repaint that was done.
88th division 10-20-2009, 08:16 PM I hope release 3 are totally different cars. And had a good start on this series. My wife and I went out to pick up a few things so I stopped in the TRU and found the "chase" white Mustang from series 2! I also picked up the
'57 Chevy from series 2.
