Just to get both sides out there. I personally saw 3 failures where I was runing this week. I think someone has to do a little more research on these things. How about running an alum. pin instead. Just my 2 cents. I will never run anything that breaks without normal wear and tear.

What failed? The weed string? It needs to be CA'd in place. If you do not like the string, you can use 'pin cushions' from IRS - another great product.

I beat the snot out of mine in Big Block EDM last night on medium to high bite clay...even stripped a spur. No problems with my new CVD's though.

I am also using the Kimbrough pin cushions and have not had any failures .. Even with hard hit on the PA nitro series no failures ... Can you tell us what failures you saw ... Im interested

It was the weed string. I think he had drilled a hole and tapped it and was using a set screw to hold the string in place. I was too busy trying to work on my car to see up close. Thanks for the tips I will pass them along.

I have run weedeater a whole season before without changing it and had zero failures. To keep it in all you have to do is thread the bone with a 4-40 tap and thread the weedeater string into the bone. No research needs to be done on these, they are just fine, the problem is user error.

Darryl, mistake number one was you think and then were too busy so before posting negative information on a product you do not own it would have been better to find out exactly what happened before assuming what you think did happen.

If the weed eater pin was the problem then wouldn't that be better than eating an aluminum outdrive or bending an axle. I never posted or put instructions on how to insert the weed eater pin since there are plenty of different ways to do it apparently. At the same time each CVD package came with the steel pin and the plastic pin. It was up to the user on what they wanted to use.

If there was anyone with a failure I'm sure they would have contacted me already. I was in contact with 2 different people on Saturday at the same race you were at. Neither one of them reported or mentioned anything about this.

The weed eater pin was not my invention it was a suggestion by a few racers that have used this technique in the past with great success.

I have found a good way to install the pin in the CVD, at the PA Tour at LA Speedway a well know all around racer and myself found a great method and seemed to work perfect each build.

With any new product there could be failures. Take in to effect the lighter weight components and you take a chance on an extra unexpected failure. There have been numerous PM's and emails to me about what I felt with these units on a Nitro car. If I was looking for sales only I could easily have said sure they will work without a problem. That is not the case, the intention of these parts are to reduce rotating mass. For electric cars that's huge advantage in saving rotating mass. By doing this these parts can be damaged in any extreme incident on the track. We did have one failure at the PA tour but when the car in question barrel rolls almost have the length of the driverstand and then gets hit a few more times at the end of the straight away something had to give.

Walter,
This I wouldn't call a failure, as in this incident it was my car! In this instance I would say, as when I had REAL cars, I opted for the lighweight piece and it does what its meant to do, reduce rotating mass. When the barrell roll happened the parts DID NOT FAIL it bent and I was still able to finish the heat.
Disassembled the CVD assembly and replaced only the aluminum axle with another aluminum axle.
I use the weedwacker line deal installed in my axles after tapping them 4-40 and no issues after two hard weeks of racing so far. I may replace it after this week as preventive maintenance but only if it shows wear that necessitates replacing.

Bottom line great product and they will be in all my dirt cars:thumbsup:

I didnt intend to cause an uproar about this product I just wanted to express the fact that someone had a problem with them. I understand all about the rotating mass and what lightened parts in his area will do. If I could afford some of these things I would most likely buy all things that not only reduced rotating mass but static weight as well.

I'm sorry If I was out of line, but if I were you I would include instructions on how YOU were going to use the product.

Darrel, you didn't cause an uproar. When I read the post after getting a phone call about this I read it and needed to respond before I called it a night. I will post an instruction on the install of these. There are other solutions in the works also. If there was anyone with a problem email or PM me and we will make sure they get this goin the right way.

Yes, Fred, Terrrr, Jeff and TG in PA @ Tour race. I did not attend - can't do Tour races on Sunday that far from home - the ladies need more than 3-4 hours sleep before Monday mornings or I would have a mutiny on my hands!
