View Full Version : Star Trek T.A.S The-Nightsky 07-19-2009, 10:28 PM Heads up! Wally world has The complete Star trek animated series for $15.00:thumbsup: phrankenstign 07-19-2009, 11:13 PM It's been that price for over a month now. I got mine the first or second week of June for that price. Prince of Styrene II 07-20-2009, 12:28 AM Picked up mine a couple weeks ago, too. It's the only series I havn't seen all of the eps to. Bruce Bishop 07-20-2009, 12:37 AM I too bought the set a few weeks ago. I knew the series existed and I had seen a couple of clips of it, but not even a full episode. So it was really nice to watch the entire series which for me contained all new Star Trek episodes! The-Nightsky 07-20-2009, 01:13 AM shows how often i go to Wal Mart seaQuest 07-20-2009, 03:56 PM I noticed my local Wal-Mart also had the HD-DVD/DVD combo disc set of TOS season one for $49.97 (or thereabouts). Jafo 07-21-2009, 11:03 AM look for the Glommer! Fury3 07-21-2009, 12:23 PM I picked up one a couple of days ago. I watched the first 3 episodes. While the animation is a little clunkly, I found the stories just about as good as those in the live action show. I consider it good buy. The-Nightsky 07-22-2009, 10:12 AM I have to agree with Fury3.The animation is 1973 74 saturday morning fair. The stories are as good as TOS.My Step son and I are enjoying this and we have watched 3 of the Discs. Prince of Styrene II 07-23-2009, 12:55 AM I picked up one a couple of days ago. I watched the first 3 episodes. While the animation is a little clunkly, I found the stories just about as good as those in the live action show. I consider it good buy. From what I've heard around the rumor mill was that the first three episode scripts were supposed to actually supposed to be for TOS's fourth season if it was renewed. John P 07-24-2009, 09:36 AM Yes, Filmation was the king of minimum-cell animation in the 70s! Modern Anime it wasn't! I just got a flash of what Space Seed would have been like if TAS had done it: McGivers: "Captain, it's a sleeper ship! They're in suspended animation." Kirk: "That's even worse than limited animation! We have to get them out of there!" phrankenstign 07-25-2009, 11:09 AM Fans of extra limited animation will want to catch the Gantray-Lawrence 1966 series, The Marvel Superheroes. Comic book art (by artists such as Kirby and Ditko) was pieced together on-screen to save money. The camera was then jiggled while panning and zooming to create the illusion of movement. It was classic! Despite the cut-rate, cheesiness, I remember the Captain America theme being a bit catchy.....althought not in the same league as the theme from their 1967 series, Spiderman. John P 07-26-2009, 10:06 AM "When Captain America throws his mighty shieeeeeeld...!" http://www.televisiontunes.com/Captain_America.html Even back then I thought that was the cheapest animation I ever saw. Fozzie 07-28-2009, 09:06 PM "When Captain America throws his mighty shieeeeeeld...!" http://www.televisiontunes.com/Captain_America.html Even back then I thought that was the cheapest animation I ever saw. It was...! It was! And, when I saw it, they ran the song after EVERY commercial break. After a while it was enough to drive you crazy. phrankenstign 07-29-2009, 04:12 AM "Repetition is the sincerest form of cheapness." Reusing cels for various scenes....including flipping them to produce reverse images were also tricks that were used with tireless abandon in these cartoons also: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51W0EDKJ2GL._SL500_AA240_.jpghttp://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51ETJ5CN0EL._SL500_AA240_.jpghttp://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61AFeegGMHL._SL500_AA240_.jpg When compared to these incredible artistic statements......Star Trek: TAS IS animation! John P 07-29-2009, 07:32 AM Oh, I loved Space Angel. I wanna model of the Starduster! JeffG 08-03-2009, 04:55 PM TAS would have benefited greatly from the use of CG 3D cell shaded models but unfortunately it came along a bit before that technology...I think. It almost never looks good when a solid object with a complex shape is animated from the artist's imagination and as a result, the Enterprise was often horribly out of proportion. Might be kinda nice if they went back and remastered that series with new effects. Matthew Green 08-05-2009, 08:43 PM Um what? Is the 1966 Marvel Superheroes show out on DVD now? Phrankenstein suggests to pick it up or did I read that wrong? phrankenstign 08-06-2009, 01:12 PM Um what? Is the 1966 Marvel Superheroes show out on DVD now? Phrankenstein suggests to pick it up or did I read that wrong? Unfortunately for fans of extremely limited animation, the entire series hasn't been released on DVD nor Blu-Ray. There have been quite a few selected episodes released, though. Check here for a listing of what IS available: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Marvel_Super_Heroes I find them amusing, but I think I'd rather jiggle and move a few comic books in front of my eyes than to try to track down all of the available episodes. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
