I have been waiting oh so patiently for any news what-so-ever on the mythical 1976 Pontiac Trans Am. Can you please tell me if and when we may see it appear?

On some sites, I see a 1974 455 SD Trans Am.
Was that a mis-print?

i love how greenlight cant seem to ever answer this question. They must not be able to make it. Such a shame. The only truley unique casting they would have too.

The problem is they are still a relatively newer company without a large budget. The castings they are trying to do have to be able to be used for a variety of casting years. I am not familiar with the 76 and not sure if the say 75-77 are close. This is the type of things they are looking for. Also - the development from licensing, molds, preproduction samples to the finished product is close to a year.

Well, this is going on 1 1/2 to 2 years since they first announced they were going to cast it. I just want to hear from them how its coming or what the problem is and if there is any time table. I am begining to think that the original casting didnt come out right and they have to start over or something.

The 1976 Firebird/Trans Am is the second generation body style for that car. It was used from 1970 through 1981, with a change of front ends in 1977 {the smokey & the bandit style}, and again in 1979 or 1980. The 1970 -1976 cars had the camaro style front end, so it looks fairly similar. Also I believe 1976 was the last year for the 455 engine was available.
Personally, I would much prefer the 1977-1978 style or even a first generation model.

The thing is, nobody has ever done a 74-76 model. 74-75 had different tails than any other year, and 76 had a different front than any other year. 76 was similar to 74-75's fronts, but lacked the ugly rubber bumpers both in the front and the rear. In my opinion, the 1976 model was the sharpest model ever.

Your not alone with that opinion. The 77-78 models are still great cars, but I think they are a tad overrated.

I love the first and second gen T/A's. I'm in the '70-'73 T/A group, but a '76 would be very welcome in my Pontiac collection.

Sorry, i have to correct myself, matchbox had done a 75 way back in the day. As far as i know they only did it with the blue exterior and yellow/gold plastic windows. Not very accurate at all. Kinda Fugly lookin if you ask me. I still have one, all nice and mint, but it means nothing to me greenlight. I swear!:o

Well,
I would have to say that the 1970-1973 body looked the best.
I tend to like the 1974 over the 1976 myself as well.
Not saying that I don't like the others.
I do like them all.
Throughout the 4 generations.
As for a casting to fit years for the second generatio,
1970-1973 (grill differences, but I doubt you'll tell at 1/64th scale)
1974
1975
1976
1977-1978
1979-1981
If a turbo model, then 1980-1981.
I wanted to see the 1974 455 SD come out like they said.
