Does anyone now why these 2 "Crown" pick-up trucks by Matchbox have a different Rte. number on the bed cover?

Just a guess here.
Maybe the same reason as making the casting a different colour?
Nice truck either way

1. Because "Get your kicks on Route 84" just doesn't make sense?
2. Because Route 84 does not go through Santa Fe, but 66 does?
3. I assume it must be because more versions = more sales, but I actually have no idea. Cool pics though!

This.
Coincidently, these models feature, in the August '09 Diecast Collector magazine, here in the UK.
According to the author of the article, the model was originally introduced with Route 66 graphics. However, apparently, at some time "Route 66", had become a registered trademark - by whom and why is not said - in any event, Matchbox were required to change the graphic as they had not obtained the necessary licence & swapped to Route 84.
It would seem, that to a Matchbox collector, the Route 66 version is 2 x the value of the Route 84.
