Can the treads be joined and then slipped over the wheel assembly or do they need to be wrapped around the wheels and then joined?

I am debating about using the heat method (to melt/flare the pins) or possibly PVC cement (since they are pvc). Anyone try PVC cement?

Seems like they will stretch but thought I would ask.

Also, I may use an expoxy paint to paint the wheels (to prevent them from being softened from the treads). It should be a better barrier I would think?

You'll need to connect them before installing. I'm using "GorillaGlue on mine. It seems to hold well enough for a few trial fittings.

Epoxy will work fine, I pimed and painted mine and they are looking great.
I would also recommend priming all the plastic (to prevent potential "swirl" marks" from coming through your paint.

Thats a good idea, didn't think of that.

Anyone know of a good mail order site for Testors Model Master? Our local hobby shops (as such) have a very limited selection of model paints, just the basic colors. I am having difficulty getting the "metallic" colors for the body etc local.

I used Zap-a-Gap on mine and it has held just fine. I shimmed my rims with brass before painting though.....

DL, try one of Hobby Talk's sponsors.

MegaHobby carries a wide selection of paints and pretty fast service. I've bought from them for years and have never been disappointed.

Well, since the treads are PVC, I decided to try some PVC cement (PVC pipe cement).

At least the brand I tried didn't hold but did manage to dissolve the locator pins on the track.

As I wait for my replacement treads  I will use the remaining and ruined track to experiment with.

To sum up, I don't recommend PVC cement.

If I can find it, there was a super glue I used when building RC plances that was a flexible glue for this type work.

I still may go that route, I was just looking for something to strengthen the joint.
