What size mower deck is on your rider?

Does the PTO belt have tension when you engage the control lever?

Deck is 42 in,If pto belt is belt that engages blades, then as you push lever towards steering wheel to engage belt gets tighterand works fine, but then travels all the way to hit steering colum .when it hit colum it gets to loose to cut grass, starts slipping. As i said earlyer i did replace belt with one of same # and they both are same size.

Did a spring slip off an idler or is an idler on the wrong side of the belt? I would remove the belt again and double check tension on the idlers and triple check the belt routing.

I checked routing of belt and it is right ,iv replaced that belt a number of times over last few years, but i did check diagram again on deck just to see if im gettin feeble minded, also spring to idlers are there and seem as strong as always, did remove deck clean and lubed everthing i saw that moves, all see to work great when hand operating, went as far as to remove handle that engages blades to see if it was bent.Again thanks for any forthcomming ideas.Paul

There is a stop that catches and stops the lever from going past the center point. It is probably bent and allowing the lever to continue past the center point. I can't remember for sure but I think the stop is down low where the spring that pulls the tension on the idler is.

Thank you 30 year tech,Problem was the stop as you stated. It is located on colum that engauge blades,it was broken off.I saw how it was supposed to work and made another from a scrap lawnmower blade. After a little grinding and drilling two holes and putting everthing back together the wife is able to cut grass again.Thank You
