katf1sh 07-11-2009, 11:08 PM http://www.teamtrinity.com/ lidebt2 07-12-2009, 05:10 AM please refer to the new 2.0 version for tour rules..some small tweaks Are the changes underlined or what? It would be easier to see them. Allan A 07-12-2009, 08:13 AM Are the changes underlined or what? It would be easier to see them. Unless I have forgot something the only rule changes are single cell lipo max is 4.22 OEM only wings in COT. lidebt2 07-12-2009, 09:27 AM Unless I have forgot something the only rule changes are single cell lipo max is 4.22 OEM only wings in COT. Okay wasn't really sure. rcgen 07-13-2009, 07:11 AM Just one serious question....is KatF1sh the TOUR's official spokesperson or pr rep? :p TinManSEP 07-13-2009, 07:58 AM Eugene..they said he was voted most likely to be their "Poster Child". And something about a circle with a line thru it?...LOL!!! 98Ron 07-13-2009, 09:02 AM Eugene we missed you Saturday, had a new face from Vero in 13.5 and the return of Mister Snodgrass to 13.5. And then we got whipped by one of our west coast friends in 13.5 one cell cot. It's starting to grow, expect a full fiels next week on the rug.. JimmyMack12 07-13-2009, 02:07 PM I'll be up at Strickland next month with my 1 cell 13.5 CoT (hopefully, if I can get the bugs worked out). Then maybe a trip down to MTR (Bradenton) for some 1S racing. casper60 07-13-2009, 02:13 PM Just one serious question....is KatF1sh the TOUR's official spokesperson or pr rep? :p I think Steve and Allen are simply adhering to federal employment guidelines in reference to hiring special needs candidates :p pmsimkins 07-13-2009, 05:04 PM Just one serious question....is KatF1sh the TOUR's official spokesperson or pr rep? :p Now that he knows they're using a brand of motor he likes for the 7.5 class he must be. lol katf1sh 07-13-2009, 06:19 PM damn caper and mr simkins are on point! look eugene i drive the short bus we are all in! until i pee on pembertons shoes i get to drive the bus.... hold on fellas! honestly i'll say it again...if 90% of the tracks would jump on board and the racers would bite just one more bullet we do have a good thing with the rules package... we (the racers) ran roar out of town (thank god) and demanded someone step up and fix oval....10 guys did just that....we realy need to decide if we want oval to have a chance at growing or keep going down a slippery slope....i bought a 1 cell pack and a receievr pack...just waiting on my 7.5 IF 7.5 is what is decided on, don't get locked into 7.5 until it is tested.... i think i am and will be tours toughest customer to keep happy...thus i get t o drive the short bus for a few miles..muahahahahah muahahahaha j/k i'm realy anti oval and i'm part of a huge terrorist cell set on destroying oval....right ron? ahahahahah Fl Flash 07-13-2009, 08:03 PM I think Steve and Allen are simply adhering to federal employment guidelines in reference to hiring special needs candidates :p :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol: Dpreston 07-13-2009, 08:16 PM I hear all Kat wants in retuen is a hot pocket lol katf1sh 07-14-2009, 10:56 PM a case of hot pockets bruther! c u on the rug! Alan Behler 07-15-2009, 07:20 AM Well, unfortunately I have 2 tracks both within an hour of my house... One I am pretty sure will go with TOUR rules, and the other is giving every indication that they are sticking with what they had. Essentially what that means is I will be racing at one track and only testing at the other, because I'm not changing cars back and forth every night. Hopefully when they do have a rules meeting, they will do the smart thing and adopt these rules. you guys must get with the regulars at both tracks and tell the tracks what you want to run. i highly doubt they will stick with the rules they had last year if the racers want different rules. matt_s86 07-18-2009, 02:07 AM I'm guessing that at the track he's talking about they'll go with the same rules as they were running, except maybe they'll allow a COT body in 13.5. Doubt they will they go full-on TOUR rules. Either way, at least a few of us (the ones who like to travel) will probably be running complete TOUR-legal cars against the others. ovalguy1 07-20-2009, 06:45 AM I think the recevier pack issue needs to be addressed. I heard there was some funny stuff in Tenn going on at the nats. (back feeding back to the speedo and so forth) J-Dub Racing 07-20-2009, 09:53 AM I kinda agree Ritchie. Would love to see them limit the rec. pack to say 180 mah or something. Or I hate to say it require everyone to run a booster instead. NovakTwo 07-20-2009, 10:18 AM I kinda agree Ritchie. Would love to see them limit the rec. pack to say 180 mah or something. Or I hate to say it require everyone to run a booster instead. SmartBoost, anyone......;) ovalguy1 07-20-2009, 10:30 AM I vote for the booster. pmsimkins 07-20-2009, 12:07 PM Somebody already posted the solution awhile back in the other thread. Pull the power wire from the ESC receiver harness. J-Dub Racing 07-20-2009, 01:21 PM Yeah, but they could just plug it back in after tech. Hopefully Allan and or Steve will get on here and talk about the options. I see the booster creating much less effort than pulling wires, but I am sure there is a way to fix that thing too...LOL pmsimkins 07-20-2009, 01:27 PM Considering the number of posts I've seen about booster malfunctions it doesn't seem like less effort to me. If you want to prevent it from being plugged back in just cut the terminal off, or glance at it in post race tech. Personally since I'll have to tow a dump truck full of lead behind my car to make weight I'd rather just run a receiver pack. It's one less piece of electronics that can fail on me. J-Dub Racing 07-20-2009, 01:45 PM I agree. I like the rec pack too. Just seems like a better solution. I just want to make sure the some people don't get smart. Some of the cars I have seen had so many wires I could tell what they were all for, and thats the proplem. Alan Behler 07-20-2009, 07:58 PM i like the booster as well i have 2. 1 of which i just started using this past weekend and no problems what so ever:thumbsup: i would like to know about the issues at the nats. Al Spina Fan 07-20-2009, 08:37 PM I tried it this past weekend Alan...Did not work out too well did it.....lol BTW, Alan ran the COT body with the regular 13.5 guys and was very competitive. My Guess...about 1/2 lap off or so it's first time out. RCThunder 07-20-2009, 10:51 PM It is interesting, but about 80 percent of the guys this weekend at our carpet race didn't run anything (receiver pack or booster). I ran my World GT single cell 13.5 for 5 minute races and had my 13.5 COT race with great results. Just throwing that out there.... pejota 07-20-2009, 11:08 PM I was wondering about not using a booster as well... Seems like i'm only using .3 volts or so. So if the Novak booster shuts down at 3.3 and i come off the charger at 4.2 i've got .9 volts to work with. I'll have to try without to see if i notice the servo lagging or whatnot. J-Dub Racing 07-21-2009, 09:37 AM I have wondered if the booster/rec pack was a myth or not. I know a lot of guys do it with the Novak, but will it work without on the Tekin and LRP? Maybe that is the way we need to go. Again the least amount of money would be great, and less wires may make for less "funny business" Larry B 07-21-2009, 10:44 AM Allan, could TOUR get reps from Tekin, Novak and LRP to give racers some info on the use of recevier packs, boosters and battery only operation? Maybe they can sort out the question about back feeding from the recevier pack. I also would like to know how well servos and recivers will work on the 3.7 battery volts or 7.4 from a receiver pack. It would be nice to know what will be done before before buying 2 set-ups and then can not use them. NovakTwo 07-21-2009, 12:14 PM As I have posted earlier, all of our escs were designed for low voltage operation. It is the other items----receivers, servos---that may need the booster circuitry. If you have high-quality electronics, you may not need an additional booster when running Novak escs. steve@teamnovak.com can provide additional information for Novak products. SMROCKET 07-21-2009, 01:01 PM Al ,I think the reference was about someone using the power from the reciever pack to increase the voltage at the motor ... This is not real in my mind because the reciever pack only runs the servo receiver and the speedo ....You know how the conspiracy theory works .... Was not an issue and unless your running a 4000 mah reciever pack it never has been or will be an issue ...... SRM J-Dub Racing 07-21-2009, 02:14 PM I think some were running big rec packs. The way I understand it the rec pack would "charge" the 1C pack thus making it retain its voltage for a longer period of time. If this wasn't the case why would people need anthing bigger than 180mah? Also from what I saw the people who had these "large" packs would charge them every run. Why would you need to charge it at all if you were not using the power? I don't know how it works to be honest. I know people who have tried it and blown stuff up. I just want to make sure we cover everything before we have any more issues. Oh yeah and some have said that if you run on a rec pack it will not turn the motor. I have seen it move a car. Not fast but the car moved. Allan A 07-21-2009, 06:13 PM OK to just let you know we have been listening, and will be back soon, VA.RACER 07-21-2009, 08:20 PM For those using rec pack, just remove the red/power wire from esc connector and that should be enough I would think. jflack 07-21-2009, 08:24 PM SR3500 DSM 3-Channel Micro Racing Receiver: Voltage Range: 3.2-9V SR3000 DSM 3-Channel Receiver: Surface Voltage Range: 3.5- 9.6V But the servo maybe a little slow. No clue on the Futaba stuff, they don't post voltage ranges. jflack 07-21-2009, 08:57 PM What about a couple of 1/12th scale classes? Maybe the perfect 2nd class! Mullins21 07-21-2009, 10:10 PM if the car is moving from the rec pack, something is wired like it should not be. i've run nicd, nimh, and now lipo rec packs and never seen the motor move even when on a car stand. thats brushless or brushed Mullins21 07-21-2009, 10:14 PM the reason for charging the rec pack every run whether its a 2200 or the 180 micro t pack like i run is to keep the servo voltage the same every time you hit the track. the car isnt going to handle the same when the rec pack has 8.4 volts then 2 or 3 runs later has 7.75. it might be close but not enough to stay consistant ovalguy1 07-22-2009, 06:58 AM Al ,I think the reference was about someone using the power from the reciever pack to increase the voltage at the motor ... This is not real in my mind because the reciever pack only runs the servo receiver and the speedo ....You know how the conspiracy theory works .... Was not an issue and unless your running a 4000 mah reciever pack it never has been or will be an issue ...... SRM Yea it has and will be Rocket. It only runs the servo and reciever if you just have it plugged in not wired to the speedo..Already saw it first hand. You tell me why someone would have and extra 6 inches of wire in there car plus charge there reciever pack every run. I ran one 4 runs last week till I had to charge it. You know the oval guys they will find a way....LOL!!! JH Racing 07-22-2009, 09:32 AM I know it's early but who will be distributing these motors? Larry B 07-22-2009, 10:54 AM the reason for charging the rec pack every run whether its a 2200 or the 180 micro t pack like i run is to keep the servo voltage the same every time you hit the track. the car isnt going to handle the same when the rec pack has 8.4 volts then 2 or 3 runs later has 7.75. it might be close but not enough to stay consistant It is not so much the back feeding as proper operation for me. I have poped 3 booster systems and the receiver packs become a wiring mess when adding a switch and regulator. I am still trying to find out what will work best, a booster or RP. Are you using a voltage regulator with the RP? I have heard that some are not and have no trouble with the electrics. Called Fatuba and they said not to use more than 6 volts on servos. I know that the older 5 cell nicad packs would charge to over 7 volts and would work fine. And we also charged them every run. Mullins21 07-22-2009, 11:07 AM i wasnt using a regulator until about 3 weeks ago. now it doesnt really matter what the voltage is. the servo has the same amout of power everytime ovalguy1 07-22-2009, 01:59 PM casper60 the only problem with that is you only run 1 switch on with the Lipo pack. I cut both on one day and poff fried speedo. pmsimkins 07-22-2009, 02:58 PM Not to mention you could just switch models on your radio so the motor wouldn't go. brian0525 07-22-2009, 03:48 PM guys I have tested a new speedo that isn't for sale yet that would make the wheels spin on the bench but when set on the track it wouldn't even go more than 2 feet and that was with a 1500 Mah rec. pack. This is a non issue imo, because you cannot move enough amperage thew the receiver to amount to anything. I just think we have some imaginations running wild on this issue otherwise I would think a ESC mfg. would be here telling us different. we change 14ga and 13ga wire to 12 ga. cause we think it doesn't move enough voltage but we are on here talking about 22 or 24ga and running threw the tiny circuits on a receiver giving someone an advantage. bottom line is if you think someone's setup works better than yours, get the stuff and fix yours the same. short of some creative wiring which is clearly cheating I don't think we have an issue. J-Dub Racing 07-22-2009, 04:56 PM You said it at the end of your post Brian.... "short of some creative wiring which is clearly cheating I don't think we have an issue." I know some people's electronics setups are better than mine. I will spend all the money in the world to get those parts if I think the are better "stock" out of the package. It is when I have to run extra wires, or rewire something thats the problem. We could just run the booster and be done with it. Then we dont have to unplug things, or do any of that stuff. I know it was a pain in the butt to turn off peoples cars with 2 switches, and unplugging batts. It took me like 10 trys to get JW's car to turn off.... Mullins21 07-22-2009, 07:14 PM the easiest thing for the racer to do would be not run anything and convince manufacturers to lower the operating voltage on the esc's for the 3.7 lipos so racers that have reciever packs dont have to buy boosters and racers with boosters dont have to buy reciever packs. all this conversation is about it wasting more money on a different item we didnt need last year. this hobby(sport) is starting to get ridiculous. we might as well go buy the rc cars walmart has on sale because the transmitter that comes with it only steers in one direction J-Dub Racing 07-22-2009, 07:56 PM Most aren't the problem. It is the people that go WAY outside the box that make this hobby an issue. If this was just about using a booster, or rec pack it would be easy. We are talking about cheating and nipping it in the butt before the season starts JeffPatch29 07-22-2009, 09:22 PM yes this has been an issue. In doing some testing for school I tried to do this just because I was curious if it could be done "I have never ran it in competition like this". I had an old receiver that the case has broken on, so I messed with a few things inside the boad using small "jumpers" and the reciever packs can be wired such that the receiver pack adds voltage to the motor, basically wiring it in series as it backfeeds to the speed control. is it cheating, in my opinion yes. But I have never seen anything in the ROAR rule books or any other rule book for that matters that says electronics such as servos and receivers can't be modified. I never put this on the track to test it, but you could here a difference in the rpm of the motor on the bench so you be the judge. I feel bad for the people who feel they have to do this to be competitive, like I said I would never do it in competition, it's just sad how far people need to push the envelope sometimes. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2013, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
