The first four minutes or so constitute a single, uninterrupted take... no cuts, no wires, no CGI...

View Full Version : Now THAT'S a fight sequence! MightyMax 07-10-2009, 02:26 PM I have seen this movie on cable. Pretty good action flick and the star kicks some serious behind! Max Bryant John P 07-10-2009, 03:42 PM See, when you grab a guy like that from behind, you're only giving him a weapon - you - to throw at people. When I say "perfect coreography," I want to especially include the cameraman, who never missed a mark in those 4 minutes. jbond 07-10-2009, 04:04 PM This must be why these movies always have someone credited with "planning." JeffG 07-10-2009, 04:48 PM Kinda reminds me of when I tried to collect my last check when I got laid off! Eric K 07-10-2009, 06:08 PM yeah, I'm a big Tony Jaa fan. Truly amazing work. El Gato 07-11-2009, 07:10 PM Man, I wanted the scene to continue. That was very cool! Poor guy, someone killed his cow Bessie. No wonder he was mad... Eric K 07-11-2009, 08:12 PM Nope...he was looking for his elephant. You can find the movie on You tube. Look for "Tom Yum Goong". And, while you're at it, you should see some of his other demos on Korean or Japanese TV. Krel 07-12-2009, 06:30 PM The Rod Taylor movie "Darker Than Amber", 1970 has a pretty rough fight scene between Rod Taylor, and Will Smith. Not the best quality, but it gives you an idea of what it looks like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7RE9UgWgsY According to Will Smith the fight scene was real, he wasn't expecting it be, but as they started filming Rod Taylor told him, "let's see how tough you really are"! Then he punched him for real! David. Jafo 07-12-2009, 10:57 PM amazing choro. and the camera angles 20 times better than most hollywood pics of today. They are all too close and you cant see anything Eric K 07-12-2009, 11:03 PM The Rod Taylor movie "Darker Than Amber", 1970 has a pretty rough fight scene between Rod Taylor, and Will Smith. Then he punched him for real! David. Ohhhh, William Smith. Had me confused there.;) Eric K 07-14-2009, 12:18 AM I just finished watching all of "Tom Yum Goong". I really enjoyed it. Incredible stunt work in that. Those are some real tough people doing those stunts. They really take a beating all the way around since they do not use wires and such things. Tony Jaa is an amazing athlete. ynblood 07-14-2009, 07:12 AM Krel, Actually Bruce Lee saw that fight scene from "Darker than Amber" and wanted Robert Clouse (The Director) to direct "Enter the Dragon". SteveR 07-15-2009, 11:15 AM The Protector sequence was great. "Wow" indeed. Nitpick: whenever you have these no-cut sequences, you have to deal with the inevitable dead spots when the audience can't see the action behind a wall, for example. It might have helped to have some foreground extras run past camera just to keep the frame alive at those points. (Yeah sure, something else to choreograph.) But that's a minor, minor nitpick. Eric K 07-15-2009, 02:04 PM I thought the "dead spots" were quite good myself. There was anticipation about what was happening. And, then when a head would come poking trough the wall, then quiet, then the head poking through another part was good. It evaded the need to show every little detail of every little moment and provided a small bit of respite in an otherwise long and grueling fight. GUS 07-24-2009, 05:07 PM I rented it from my local vid store and it came with two disks, i think the first disk is edited. I saw the disk 2 and there are some other fight sequences just as long. Entertaining movie. Not sure which disk you get if u rent it from netflix. gus vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
