I just had to do this. This is the last batch of latest stuff from my bench! Enjoy! To see the captions and a full size photo, just click on the photo!

And you guys thought I was making up stories about this photo! They are staring at me and now you too!

Here is how I did the Maters. All the photo's are captioned. Enjoy!
There is a small nub that will have to be dremeled off of the original front post.
The rear screw id the one that holds a JL pullback chassis together. They are a bit larger in diameter than T-Jet screws.

The continuing saga of Piggy's Pen comes to you today with the play by play on Lightning McQueens conversion to a slot car! I will be posting the photo's of this one a few at a time, as I had all of them set to add chassis to all at once, but discovered that I had placed the front post in the wrong spot. So off to the Dremel shop they went to remove and replace! As you can see in the photo the McQueens come apart the same way the Maters did. They have a freewheeling chassis that is screwed in and it comes out really easy! There is quite a bit of Dremel work to do with these guys, as you can see by the marks around the front & rear posts. I also removed the side tabs for better chassis fitment. Oh yeah, if you are half blind like me just click on the itty-bitty photo and it will magically enlarge for you!

In the first photo here is the body with the side tabs removed and the miss-positioned front post removed. In the second photo I prepped the chassis by adding a post to the front of the chassis, to make it easy to position it in the body, and added dragster wheels from Aurora's four gear chassis. They have foam tires. I also used long AFX axles and 1/16th inch spacers for clearance. In the third photo, if you look real close, you can see the spacers. You could also use short T-jet axles, but you would have to shave the raised backside of the rim off to make it narrower. In the last photo the chassis is positioned with a small dab of CA on top of the post. A shot of accelerant and "voila" ..... it's off to meet MR. Dremel again to trim the posts down a bit.

OK, time to finish up Lightning McQueen, in the first photo he's locked and loaded and ready to roll! The front post has been reinstalled and trimmed to the right height. The back post I needed to add a little to it, as I dremeled off a bit too much. The front guide pin is an extra long one. It is really needed because of the large diameter wheels and tires. The second photo shows the car in a side view before I added a bit to the rear post. Note how close the rear tire is to the fender. The third photo shows the car from the same view with the small piece added to the post. Notice the difference in the spacing around the rear wheel. Looks much better! Matter of fact I think it's poifect! The fourth photo shows the car from the front. The wide tires give it "the look". The fifth and last photo shows the same stance from the rear, also notice the small piece I added to the rear post! Ready to roll and go tractor tipping with Mater! :-)

I really liked this movie, so I did a special Lightning McQueen for myself, as seen in photo #1. The wheels and tires are from a die cast donor, a Muscle Machines car. I think they look pretty good on this car. I did have to do some dremel work on the wheel wells to get these large tires and wheels to fit. As a result of enlarging the wheel wells I had to remove the peel and stick decal on the side of the car, ruining it in the process. :-( Any one up to making me some replacements? :-) I still have to level the body as it looks like he been drinking a bit!

Does the Mater truck absolutely need the rare/Xpen$ive slimline ? If it can be done with the cheaper AW T-Jet it would be better. Not unles AW or MM can come out with their own MTJ !
I would have a $#!T load of color schemes for each car.

Neal, The Mater body and slimmie chassis are practically bolt in. Very little work was necessary for fitment, and, this is the biggie, the wheelbase is right on. That makes it a rather easy conversion.

Well it has been a while since I posted anything in this thread! So I guess it is about time. Right? Ok, here it is, in a nut shell; I have taken up resin casting! Hooray!! No more waiting for other guys to make what I want, I'll just make it myself! LOL So, seeing that the Willy's is one of my most favorite cars, I decided to cast that body up first. In the coming days I will post up some of the photo's for the play by play on this build. It was a lot of fun and I have sold almost all of the castings that I made. The cash will help me buy the stuff for the next lot of bodies that will come out of the mold! So here are some photo's -------

Here is the Die cast body right after it came back from being cleaned. It was supposed to be glass beaded, but was sandblasted instead. Which made for a lot of polishing later one. You can see the dimpled surface form the cleaning. I now use Automotive Paint stripper to take the paint off of die cast now. This is/was a Johnny Lightning die cast. Which I had to widen at a couple of points so it would fit a pancake chassis. To view a larger photo click on the thumbnail. That's the little bugger sitting on a JL pullback chassis.

Here is the next project on Mr. Willy, filling the hole in the hood and the boo boo on the passenger side door hinges. I used bondo glaze compound to fill the holes, but you could use a variety of materials to fill like, good 'ole regular bondo, epoxy glue, JB Weld, Shoe Goo, CA glue and baby powder to mention a few. OK,..... the next step is to clay up the master now that it is all polished up. This, for me, is the least fun part, as the Kleen clay tends to get everywhere on your fingers. Especially under the nails, and it is a royal pain to get it out! But ya gotta use the stuff, cause silicone won't stick to it! Photo's below and click on 'em to see a big one!

This is the mold box. I bought this at an art supply house online and cut the bottom out of it out with a dremel. It is just the right size to do slot car bodies, and you can use it over and over. The bottom of the mold box is just a plain piece of corrugated cardboard, with some double stick carpet tape on it, to keep the mold box from moving. It will also keep the master in place while you pour and the silicone sets up.

http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h197/partspig/AAAAPig%20Stuff/th_P1010001-24.jpg (http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h197/partspig/AAAAPig%20Stuff/P1010001-24.jpg)

Here is the master all clayed up. When doing the clay, be sure to recess the windows and bottom edge of the body about 1/16th of an inch, and leave about 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch of clay under the body. You will see why later!

http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h197/partspig/AAAAPig%20Stuff/th_P1010001-21.jpg (http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h197/partspig/AAAAPig%20Stuff/P1010001-21.jpg)

OK, Next up is the paint job!!! I am not a s good as the boys in Randy's shop, by any means! LOL So, I trimmed all the flash off of a body and hit it with a coat of gray primer, then a light sanding with 600 grit, and repeat that process once, then two coats of gloss black, a coat of clear pearl and finally a coat of clear gloss! The photo's really do not do it justice! You need to see it in daylight! Slideshow below - just click on the link!
