On a Briggs & Stratton Model 114982 Spec 0148-01 Code 84012504. Removed carb and cleaned. Installed a new diaphram between carb and tank. Engine starts ok but the choke won't pull off when it starts. I have to stick a screwdriver in the carb to open the choke butterfly. (I do have the air cleaner bolt in place) Once the butterfly is open the engine runs great. I have removed the carb and checked the linkage and all is connected. Any ideas what will cause the choke plate not to open?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Most likely is a plugged vacuum port. Take the carburetor back off the fuel tank. Look in the tank to the port that goes to the area where the spring on the bottom of the diaphragm goes. There is usually a small brass colored plug with a tiny orifice in it. This is where vacuum flows to pull the diaphragm and open the choke when the engine starts running. The little orifice in the plug can become clogged preventing the vacuum from operating the diaphragm.

Best of Luck....
