Here are some poor webcam pics of the conversion I am doing to my own Iron Man figure. I have to sand everything now and prime it, and I still have to start putting the new base together. When I do I will take better pics and post them.

I removed most of the designed attachment points for the figure. Both the full left leg and full left arm ended up getting built in the stock position anyway. The right hand was tilted up a little, maybe I should have tilted it more, I'll find out when I get the base parts tacked into position. The rest of the right arm was assembled in the stock position.

I just turned the arms and glued them in place. I also turned the head just a little to the right after I put some glue on the neck. The right leg I took what I thought would be the easy way out and just glued the thigh to the calf, then filled in the gap with Aves putty. If I had wanted a steeper bend to the leg I would have had to cut the parts with my razor saw. But this way I could have him stand upright on his own. I also moved the position of the right leg forward and out just a little, so I had to fill in the gap with putty as well.

The changes are very minor, but I do think it makes the pose look much more alive than the original pose.

Thanks! I hope to do some sanding and prime the figure tonight. When I glued the parts together I got carried away with the tube glue, so I need to fix a lot of the seams, but it shouldn't take long with a little wet sanding.

Amazing how such a small change in the pose improves the dynamics so much. Very nice work Bruce.

I agree with JPA on how that little change in the figure makes a huge difference.

Thanks!

I have been working on the base, and it's almost finished. When it is ready for final painting, I will take some current pics and post them before the final painting is done. It is looking pretty good right now. I just hope I don't mess up on the painting.

I cut back a bit on my plans for the base, because it just made the footprint of the model too big for what I wanted. I need to glue some trim around the edge of the base, do a tiny bit more putty work, and create a nameplate. I also need to decide on the mounting method for part of the base, and for Iron Man himself. I might just let him stand without attachment to the base, but I will probably mount at least a screw into the bottom of one foot.

Even if I'm not ready yet I will probably take some pics tomorrow just to show what I am doing. I think most of you will find something vaguely familiar about my version of this kit.

What the heck. Here is the work I have currently accomplished. I obviously need better lighting to take the pictures, so I will be more careful next time!

Thanks! I need to go buy a couple of things at the store so I can get going on it again.

I did actually do some more puttying and sanding on the figure and base, and drilled mounting holes so I can screw Iron Man and the wall to the floor base part. And I mounted the trim around the bottom of the base, but that hasn't worked out so well yet.

I need to buy a bunch of straight pins to hold the trim around the base in place, since after trying two different types of glue, I found that neither worked very well on the plastic stuff I used as the trim. I figure the pinheads will look like rivets and fit right in with an Iron Man kit. I'm using some little brass thumbtacks as placeholders for now, but they don't really look or work right so they have to go.

And I need to find suitable red and gold spray can paints for Iron Man himself. I will make an attempt at masking off the gold parts after painting, so I can spray the red over the main area of the figure. If it doesn't work I will have to see what I can do about hand-painting in the gold after the red dries.

I still need to make a nameplate as well.

I will probably take new photographs to replace the ones I am showing currently, because I think they just needed more light to be decent pics. And when it's all finished I will take pictures and post them.

Thank you Yasutoshi! It was seeing your repose of the Iron Man kit that caused me to decide to reposition my own Iron Man.:)
