View Full Version : Any quarter scale racers in IL ?
Briguy 07-08-2009, 05:42 PM A buddy and I are thinking about making the switch to 1/4 fro 1/10 and 1/8 racing .Looking to hear from anyone in IL that races at Machensey Park Raceway .
I don`t know much about racing 1/4 scale far as which manufacture builds better cars , where do we get the engines from , common parts to keep on hand , price on tires , where to get tires , how long do tires last , and anything else .
I appreciate any help . We are going to the track Saturday and hope to find out more info .
Briguy 07-08-2009, 05:49 PM Also , who makes the Nascar decals ?
1Starpower 07-08-2009, 05:54 PM Start off by visiting qsac.org They have the list of manufactures for chassis, tires, and the rules. Give it just a little bit, I bet somebody will be on here from MPR.
Briguy 07-08-2009, 05:57 PM Thanks , I only seen the two manufactures for the cars . They make the tires as well ?
IN2RACIN 07-08-2009, 06:27 PM Thanks , I only seen the two manufactures for the cars . They make the tires as well ?
Hi, There are 5 Mfgs listed on the QSAC site. "BRP" (Tires) is on the MFG link too.

Bob krueger 07-08-2009, 06:45 PM Briguy,I have raced at Machesney on and off for years and it seems the two main cars are WCM and PRO-1 racing there.I talked with Dave today and he said he had talked to a couple of new guys interested in Q-scale.
Dave is a great guy to ask questions and get help and info on Q-scales.Seeing you guys will be new,I would almost lean toward a WCM because there is always a good supply of parts that someone who is running there will have and you can look at someones car and transfer that setup to car
MSadler 07-08-2009, 06:46 PM Great bunch of guys that race at Machensey Park Raceway bring your questions and your sense of humor you wont be dissapointed!!
Briguy 07-08-2009, 06:56 PM Thanks Bob and MSadler !

edkaz 07-08-2009, 08:24 PM Ok, so I THINK Im the buddy Briguy mentioned.
After eons of 10th and 8th scale racing (and glancing over the MPR smack talk thread) this Qscale stuff, looks exactly like whats been missing..... FUN

Good supply of Parts handy?
Sounds like MY kinda car.
Anybody out that way have one they're selling?
dizzy 07-08-2009, 08:30 PM You guys will love MPR, fast and fun track to race on and they are a great bunch of men and women, last year they would grill and feed you while you were there, not sure if they are doing that this year. I drive over from Iowa to race with them and Baseball is almost over so I will start making the trip soon. Look out MPR the back markers will be there soon. :)

Huh ????????????? Who are you ? JK
jbrooks39 07-08-2009, 09:00 PM Still grilling!!!
There are two sprint cars that are for sale locally, but I would recommend getting a Sportsman rather than a Sprint car if you are just starting out in quarter, regardless of your past R/C experience.
Come and check it out this weekend.
Heck, if Leo can do it... :)

Briguy 07-08-2009, 09:16 PM I was leaning towards a sportsman car and maybe a sprint later on . Anyone know who makes the Nascar decals for these ?
jeffdavis38 07-08-2009, 09:26 PM You guys can give e a call. I have new and used cars ready to go or just rolling chassis. I will be glad to help you guys make the switch and yes a very good supply of parts, just one phone call away. I have just about anything you will need to get rolling.
Thanks for your time my # is on the track website.

Sonny B 07-09-2009, 01:48 AM Briguy where are you from? I live in Champaign. Just started racing 1/4 scale again after a few years off. Lots of fun..
MPR is also a great track. Good group of guys up there. (Don't tell them I said that):)
There are a few other guys in Central, IL that are thinking about getting cars. If we get enough we may put a club together and try to start a track down in this area.
If you're close to the Springfield area I race at Allen's pretty often. I would be happy to bring the cars over for you to look at and answer questions.
Briguy 07-09-2009, 07:36 AM Both Ed and I live in the Ottawa area . We were talking about putting up a track some where after we get the cars . Springfield is around 3 hours away and very possible we will check it out .

Cool. You're not to far from MPR. About a 3hr ride for me to get up there.
If I can help with anything let me know.
